I guess you could count me as Pro-Blofeld. Craig's run is in a separate restarted continuity from the previous twenty films. 007 Legends doesn't count. Craig's Bond has yet to encounter or kill Blofeld so reusing the character in the rebooted continuity would be fair game, especially if it means the chance of a proper adaptation of the "Blofeld Trilogy". And Blofeld is after all Bond's arch nemesis, essentially Bond's Moriarty or Joker. While there are 5, arguably 6 films from the previous twenty that featured Blofeld, the overall arc was ruined by the stories being filmed out of sequence and also the casting of different actors in the role. What should have been the crown jewels of the previous franchise was rendered disjointed by the manipulations and changes. At least for me since they have a chance to do things right since the continuity has been reset, I would like to see a proper adaption of the "Blofeld trilogy" at some point.
That said, as stated in my previous post I would want them to close out the Quantum/Mr. White story arc. I feel that needs to be tied up before moving on to the likes of Blofeld and SPECTRE. Which is even more reason why I would like to see the conclusion of the "Quantum Trilogy" in Bond 24. Although some have said otherwise I feel Quantum has a lot of potential still. Quantum is portrayed not as a freelance terrorist/spynetwork like SPECTRE was, but as a Globalist Cabal of very rich and connected individuals manipulating events from behind the scenes to get their share, their cut, their quantum of profit. People keep talking about how there should be an as yet unseen "head" of Quantum. I disagree with that.
In my opinion Quantum is White's outfit. Or at least that's how I see it or at least what I would do storywise. They killed Greene and Le Chiffre yet White's still alive and kicking. If he's not the head he's up there in the top levels. Revealing White as the head could give weight to the events in QOS. The notion that Bond and MI6 had him, the big bad himself only to have him snatched from their fingers under their very noses. I already stated some ideas of how they could bring back the Character of White. I say they could recast and say the character had plastic surgery. They could even turn it into a twist. Not unlike DAF or even DAD. I know those films aren't exactly widely beloved but again the Craig continuity allows the chance to revisit old ideas and do them right/proper.
While I do want to see Blofeld and SPECTRE adapted to Craig's continuity, I feel Bond 24 is too soon perhaps. Like I said and will keep saying, I want them to finish Quantum first. However could it be possible to have both Quantum and SPECTRE be in Bond 24? I would say yes, but that depends on what they decide to do storywise. At the very least they could have a hint or SPECTRE as a kind of Joker card ending like Batman Begins and have Bond 25 be the start of the new "Blofeld trilogy". If I were to resurrect the idea/concept of Blofeld and SPECTRE I would evolve or adapt them to the contemporary world. The more I think about it, the more I like the Idea of a rebooted SPECTRE being a kind of elite private army/security/intelligence outfit, defense contractor/PMC not unlike something like Blackwater, Xe, Defense Systems, Control Risks, etc with Ernsnt Stavro Blofeld being the owner/founder/CEO. If SPECTRE were a PMC it opens up a way for them to be working for or with Quantum perhaps. There's so much potential in my opinion. These are just some ideas.
As for who I would like to play Blofeld? Mark Strong. Why? He has that dual heritage, like the Blofeld in the novels which gives him a kind of exotic air and he evokes the same kind of brutality for me that was present in Savalas's Blofeld which was my favorite portrayal. Mark Strong has played many a dastardly villain and also some ambiguous roles too. He was almost cast in Skyfall, methinks he would have been the backup for Silva had Bardem not come through. The fact the he's close to Craig makes me think that if cast, a confrontation between Craig Bond and a Strong Blofeld has the potential to be something really special. That said however I wonder if Blofeld and SPECTRE might be better suited for use after Craig leaves the role. If they're going to use SPECTRE and Blofeld then I feel it should be a proper contemporary adaption of the "Blofeld trilogy". Perhaps not remakes per say with titles and all, but proper adaptions. Not unlike what they did with Craig's CR. On the subject of remakes of all the Fleming Bond stories in general, I think it's not a question of if, but when. Probably not during Craig's run, but as always never say never.
Well that sums up how a feel about Blofeld/SPECTRE. Now for something else I would like to see in Bond 24. The return of a proper secondary villain or henchman/woman. Craig's run so far has some memorable villains. We've had secondary villains like Obanno and Medrano. From CR there was a host of hired guns Mollaka, Carlos, and Gettler, then Valenka and Kratt; for QOS Mitchell, Slate, and Elvis. Skyfall had Patrice and then after that I would say Severine's Bodyguards were among the most memorable. I want to see the return of a classic henchman. We need a contemporary Oddjob or Gobinda. We need a henchman who survives a couple encounters with Bond and actually has some really dastardly things to do. Patrice was a step in the right direction but he left the story a little too early. A good example from a contemporary film although it's not Bond, is Savin from Iron-Man 3. I really liked how they kept him hidden from most of the marketing so his character being such a prominent secondary villain/henchman was pleasantly surprising.
