With Eon/MGM getting back Blofeld/SPECTRE.......it very likely we see in the near future

I was going to write about this. I've just read this news and this is terrific news indeed. I've always wanted the return of Spectre and Blofeld to the franchise. they could make Quantum a subsidiary of Spectre to work it out.

I would love that, but I'm afraid it won't happen. They ditched the Quantum storyline after QoS and I don't think that Mendes is going to reuse elements - storywise that is - from CR or QoS. But personnally I would love to see the Quantum arc being closed properly. Maybe they could use the new M as a key figure, pretend he's a double agent working for Quantum/SPECTRE. Bond doesn't trust him, ignores his orders and gets into trouble, only to find out that M isn't a double agent after all and somebody else (maybe a minister who hired him for an off the books operation) set him up.

If they are planning on returning Blofeld onto our screens in Bond 24, by the way I'm not supporting the fact that they are or not, I think they should cast this actor, Stellan Skarsgard. To me, he is what I imagine when I think of a 'rebooted' Blofeld.

Skargård would a good choice, but I'd love to see Ulrich Matthes in that role.

The Quantum story needs to be left alone at this point.  Having the new M involved as some sort of double agent (or triple-agent or whatever) would not be the way to go about closing out that arc anyway.  This new M needs to be entirely on the up-and-up.  There's been too much Mission: Impossible-style double-agent distrust nonsense in the Dench Era and the series desperately needs to get away from that.

I know Mendes said he didn't want to use Quantum in Skyfall, but to me that sounded more like they were taking a break much like GF between FRWL and TB. Personally, I would like to see a proper conclusion to the Quantum storyline rather than it being left hanging. There are a couple of big loose ends from QOS left unresolved since Forster cut the original ending. Mostly the fate of Mr. White and the fact that Quantum had infiltrated the highest levels of the British government. I think it's no coincidence that after the events of QOS, MI6 and M find themselves under attack not just from external threats but the bureaucracy itself went after and sought the removal of M one way or another. Silva does mention rigging elections in Uganda all to the highest bidder. As we know from CR our old friends did have a vested interest in what goes on in that country and since this is the same world and universe from CR it wouldn't be a stretch to imagine a freelance agent like Silva would have dealings with Quantum perhaps even unwittingly. When you look at the big picture it starts to make sense. Or at least that's how I choose to look at the overall arc of events in Craig's first three films.

I feel they could use Quantum again in another one or two films to close out the Quantum storyline. If they decide to have Quantum front and center then one film but if they choose to go the Mystery route and have Bond unraveling a plot with Quantum's involvement being revealed only at the end then perhaps two films. I would like to have a nice and neat "Quantum Trilogy". Some have said perhaps Bond destroyed Quantum between QOS and SF. That could be. If that's the case, there's still White. I know Jesper Christensen has talked crap about the Bond films so if he's burned any bridges they could always re-cast. Maybe Gary Oldman? They could use the plastic surgery angle which would make sense given facial recognition technology today. Heck they could even change his name to Blofeld and his outfit to SPECTRE, although I'd rather they keep the two separate. I just feel there are a lot of interesting ways to bring back and rework or evolve the character of Mr. White and bring proper conclusion to the story started in CR. I know there are those who rather Quantum and White be left unused but I'm sorry I have to disagree. Like I said at the very least I want one more film to tie things up. While I have grown to really like QOS, for me the biggest problem was it left me wanting. It felt incomplete to me. That's something I want them to fix before it turns into another YOLT, OHMSS, DAF, FYEO situation.

As far as Bond and the new M, I wouldn't want to see the whole M's a possible double agent. However Bond 24 would be the first time Bond and Mallory are working together proper. I think there needs to be some kind of arc with the characters. I know many have said they want business as usual but at the same time I feel there is a lot of potential for some interesting situations especially if they decide to revisit the idea that Quantum had infiltrated the highest levels of the British Government. We haven't seen who Mallory has to answer to. Perhaps Quantum could try to manipulate, blackmail Mallory or even have Mallory unwittingly or knowingly send Bond into a trap not unlike something like FRWL with the intentions of turning the tables on Quantum. Mallory could be unaware or skeptical of Quantum, unlike Bond who is familiar with their methods and part of the story could be Bond trying to convince Mallory that Quantum is trying to set them up for a fall or even outright sabotage the trust between Bond and Mallory. These are just ideas that would make things a little more interesting.

That said I wouldn't mind the return of more traditional story elements. I feel Bond is ready to handle a slightly larger threat, a TB or MR novel type of plot. When it comes to Bond the whole nuclear bomb plot never gets old. It's quint-essential, classic. This is a reboot and somehow it wouldn't be proper without some villain threatening the world with a nuke. It's not that far-fetched. Look up stories like "the Tory Nuke fiasco". Maybe that kind of plot might be too real-world in this day and age. I would say they could use a cyber threat but they already did that to certain extent with Silva, although a "Stuxnet" style cyber weapon plot could be done differently. Not unlike GF and TB. Back to back films that had a nuclear threat so maybe back to back cyber threats could work. There's always things like HAARP and they could use or even the concept of a "tsunami bomb" weapon which is real. I don't believe everything I read online but if you're okay with conspiracy theories look up what Benjamin Fulford has to say about the Fukushima disaster. It's like something out of AVTAK. Not saying that what the man says is true but it's interesting to see how such a plot would unfold.

Now what are some other things I would like to see in Bond 24? Count another vote for a skiing sequence. And also I would like to see Bond scuba diving or doing some type of underwater infiltration. I would like to see the return of Jeffery Wright as Felix Leiter. Also I like those memorable stand-out brutal deaths that were in the both the novels and films. Stuff like the guy in the snowblower or the piranha pool from OHMSS and YOLT. Both were in the novels and films. Those are just a few. Dario's demise from LTK is my favorite. It's an Indiana Jones style death and it's no coincidence those films are among the most beloved action/adventures. So far Craig's era has had a few. Carlos's demise is a stand out and straight from the two bombers in the original CR novel. Mendes showed that he's on the right track with Komodo Dragons. What I don't want is another TWINE buzzsaw helicopters. The same happened with jungle cutter in Indiana Jones and KOTCS. If you're going to bring on stage a machine which threatens gory death unless the movie is rated G you better make good on that. Fleming would haven been disappointed with the sequence in TWINE. That was kinda of a bland Bond movie when it came to that department. Only Renard's death kinda stands out and even that was "toned down". Even though DAD has a lot of issues one thing they got right was Graves's demise. Not saying I want blood and guts. Sometimes less is more and the implied gory death is far more effective, case in point Carlos in CR.

All in all I guess that sums up what I would like to see with Bond 24.

Also, they didn't cast Ralph Fiennes just to give him a cameo. He'll probably have a bigger role than Bernard Lee or Robert Brown ever had.

Hopefully a cameo is all that Fiennes gets.  The M role has grown far too large during Dench's tenure.  It's time to scale that part back considerably, even if its at the expense of a talent like Fiennes.

I'd quite like them to have Mary Goodnight, even if they just have a scene of Bond walking into his office and saying hello to her. I guess her character would be redundant because of Moneypenny, but an acknowledgement would be nice.

I am so sick of this Blofeld revitalization. I mean I look at the Bond movies as individual missions that James Bond has partaken in. So having Blofeld killed earlier and then revived? I mean to me that just doesn't make sense.

I guess you could count me as Pro-Blofeld. Craig's run is in a separate restarted continuity from the previous twenty films. 007 Legends doesn't count. Craig's Bond has yet to encounter or kill Blofeld so reusing the character in the rebooted continuity would be fair game, especially if it means the chance of a proper adaptation of the "Blofeld Trilogy". And Blofeld is after all Bond's arch nemesis, essentially Bond's Moriarty or Joker. While there are 5, arguably 6 films from the previous twenty that featured Blofeld, the overall arc was ruined by the stories being filmed out of sequence and also the casting of different actors in the role. What should have been the crown jewels of the previous franchise was rendered disjointed by the manipulations and changes. At least for me since they have a chance to do things right since the continuity has been reset, I would like to see a proper adaption of the "Blofeld trilogy" at some point.

That said, as stated in my previous post I would want them to close out the Quantum/Mr. White story arc. I feel that needs to be tied up before moving on to the likes of Blofeld and SPECTRE. Which is even more reason why I would like to see the conclusion of the "Quantum Trilogy" in Bond 24. Although some have said otherwise I feel Quantum has a lot of potential still. Quantum is portrayed not as a freelance terrorist/spynetwork like SPECTRE was, but as a Globalist Cabal of very rich and connected individuals manipulating events from behind the scenes to get their share, their cut, their quantum of profit. People keep talking about how there should be an as yet unseen "head" of Quantum. I disagree with that.

In my opinion Quantum is White's outfit. Or at least that's how I see it or at least what I would do storywise. They killed Greene and Le Chiffre yet White's still alive and kicking. If he's not the head he's up there in the top levels. Revealing White as the head could give weight to the events in QOS. The notion that Bond and MI6 had him, the big bad himself only to have him snatched from their fingers under their very noses. I already stated some ideas of how they could bring back the Character of White. I say they could recast and say the character had plastic surgery. They could even turn it into a twist. Not unlike DAF or even DAD. I know those films aren't exactly widely beloved but again the Craig continuity allows the chance to revisit old ideas and do them right/proper.

While I do want to see Blofeld and SPECTRE adapted to Craig's continuity, I feel Bond 24 is too soon perhaps. Like I said and will keep saying, I want them to finish Quantum first. However could it be possible to have both Quantum and SPECTRE be in Bond 24? I would say yes, but that depends on what they decide to do storywise. At the very least they could have a hint or SPECTRE as a kind of Joker card ending like Batman Begins and have Bond 25 be the start of the new "Blofeld trilogy". If I were to resurrect the idea/concept of Blofeld and SPECTRE I would evolve or adapt them to the contemporary world. The more I think about it, the more I like the Idea of a rebooted SPECTRE being a kind of elite private army/security/intelligence outfit, defense contractor/PMC  not unlike something like Blackwater, Xe, Defense Systems, Control Risks, etc with Ernsnt Stavro Blofeld being the owner/founder/CEO. If SPECTRE were a PMC it opens up a way for them to be working for or with Quantum perhaps. There's so much potential in my opinion. These are just some ideas.

As for who I would like to play Blofeld? Mark Strong. Why? He has that dual heritage, like the Blofeld in the novels which gives him a kind of exotic air and he evokes the same kind of brutality for me that was present in Savalas's Blofeld which was my favorite portrayal. Mark Strong has played many a dastardly villain and also some ambiguous roles too. He was almost cast in Skyfall, methinks he would have been the backup for Silva had Bardem not come through. The fact the he's close to Craig makes me think that if cast, a confrontation between Craig Bond and a Strong Blofeld has the potential to be something really special. That said however I wonder if Blofeld and SPECTRE might be better suited for use after Craig leaves the role. If they're going to use SPECTRE and Blofeld then I feel it should be a proper contemporary adaption of the "Blofeld trilogy". Perhaps not remakes per say with titles and all, but proper adaptions. Not unlike what they did with Craig's CR. On the subject of remakes of all the Fleming Bond stories in general, I think it's not a question of if, but when. Probably not during Craig's run, but as always never say never.

Well that sums up how a feel about Blofeld/SPECTRE. Now for something else I would like to see in Bond 24. The return of a proper secondary villain or henchman/woman. Craig's run so far has some memorable villains. We've had secondary villains like Obanno and Medrano. From CR there was a host of hired guns Mollaka, Carlos, and Gettler, then Valenka and Kratt; for QOS Mitchell, Slate, and Elvis. Skyfall had Patrice and then after that I would say Severine's Bodyguards were among the most memorable. I want to see the return of a classic henchman. We need a contemporary Oddjob or Gobinda. We need a henchman who survives a couple encounters with Bond and actually has some really dastardly things to do. Patrice was a step in the right direction but he left the story a little too early. A good example from a contemporary film although it's not Bond, is Savin from Iron-Man 3. I really liked how they kept him hidden from most of the marketing so his character being such a prominent secondary villain/henchman was pleasantly surprising.

Point #1 is about Blofeld's daughter, and this gave me an idea (not so different from one I already wrote).

In Bond 24, Quantum is back. MI6 doesn't know how: they'll reveal in a dialogue between M and Bond that the latter had already defeated Quantum shortly after he kidnapped and interrogated Greene. At the end of the movie, we'll find out Blofeld is the son of Quantum's head, and he's trying to avenge his father and to bring back Quantum with a new name (SPECTRE) (cliffhanger ending) - Bond 25 sees the defeat of Quantum.

I would like to see a better palate of colors than in Skyfall. To me, the saturation was much better in Casino Royale. The look of Skyfall was frequently bland. Also the dynamic range of lighting was dissapointing. Look at the Macau scene. Either the lights in the lamps were overblown or it was too dim. It lacked in my humble opinion the grandeur of a world class casino.

I'm no gambler, nor do I know anything about casinos....but I thought the Royale scenes shot by Meheux in CR were too bright and colorful...plus the absence of smoke was disappointing. The Macau scenes in SF were much closer to what I imagine a real old world casino would be. A bit dim and mysterious, with just a touch of sleaze.

Personally, I preferred the photography by Schaefer in QOS (That is, when you could actually see it between the awful, maniacal editing.)

Bond isn't actually in the navy though, it's just an old cover title and even in the books it's alluded to that Bond wasn't even in the navy during the war but some secret commando unit and RNVR (volunteer reserves) was, again, just a cover title.

There's no reason at all for Bond to be going on Navy training exercises or commando missions or anything like that. He's now a spy and he does a very different job. I strongly feel they need to get back to the art of writing Bond as mainly an investigatory spy, and the action and adventure comes from him getting too deep into strange investigations and being forced to fight his way out using mostly his initiative. The big action can still happen, just built to properly and not making the character out as some action man.

Oh and the same 60's feel of SKYFALL (does that make any sense???).

Daniel Craig should play the villain. Bond should use this coincidence for infiltration until the villain finds out what's going on. Then the villain sets about framing Bond and killing him as part of his destructive master plan. Now Bond has to fight not only to save the world, but his life.

Love the idea of Bond infiltrating an organisation and having to play the bad guy, working with and making love to the bad girl in the process, then getting exposed (fnarr) for what he is and the usual deadly feuding beginning :)
