The Xbox One, probably not going to get this one, unless the games impress me enough, and that's saying much. The new console is basically a TiVo in a nutshell. Wasn't too impressed. The Call Of Duty: Ghosts trailer was nice though. Will probably get the PS4 instead. PlayStation will win this time.

Definitely agreed. Microsoft seems to have royally screwed up. The Xbox One doesn't require a 100% constant connection, but certain features will require the cloud, so it does seem that some internet connection is required. They are also pretty much blocking used games, unless you want to pay a fee to Microsoft. This is incredibly stupid and from what I can tell, they are not as committed to making this about games as much as Sony is. Playstation 4 is clearly the front runner so far.

Either way, It will need a 100% always online connection. Their conference was below par as expected. This is it. It seems they may have a slight advantage to me, in the hardware and software department, but PS4 is the front runner. I am interested in the Blu Ray drive in the Xbox One. Everything else, I'll wait for E3 to see if it's really a TiVo or a new Xbox.

Hmm...your views shed a bit of new light on this. I think I had my 360 glasses on watching this, and it looked all great and shiny. It's hard to think it's a gaming console when it does everything else as well.

I'll really need to look into the PS4 as well, to see if it will be the one to take me away from Microsoft...

We'll see how it plays out. I was hoping for a better showing by Microsoft as I wanted both consoles to be well received. However, from what I've been hearing the reception to the Xbox One has been very lukewarm. The two consoles appear, for now at least, to be about on par with each other in terms of power. We are definitely seeing a big split in the audiences that Sony and Microsoft are aiming for though. As it stands, I'm more looking forward to the Playstation 4. I'm slightly biased being a PS gamer, but it seems that they have learned from their mistakes with the PS3 and are looking to rectify them. Microsoft, on the other hand, appears to be falling into the third console trap that has befallen many before them, Sony and Nintendo included. (N64, while a great console, was the beginning of Nintendo's problems with third party developers and did not sell anywhere near PS1). Let's not even start on Wii U. That thing is pretty much a sinking ship.

I never liked the PS3, but I'm probably going to switch over if Microsoft doesn't change certain things at E3.

Haven't said this yet, but I will now.

I have a feeling a lot of games are going to suffer this year due to the eighth generation consoles. For example, Batman: Arkham Origins, Grand Theft Auto V, Tomb Raider, Saints Row IV, Splinter Cell Blacklist, Beyond: Two Souls, and possibly Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain. Why? These are all some of the big games the world can't wait to get their hands on. People will be lining up for it, shelling out $5-$20 for DLC, and so forth. Those games aren't even listed for the PS4 and Xbox One. These games should either be delayed to have them be in development for the PS4 and Xbox One, or delay the consoles 6-12 months.

Grand Theft Auto V will be a hit and will make loads of cash, not to mention Rockstar Games will have DLC for it much like they did for Grand Theft Auto IV, Red Dead Redemption, L.A. Noire, and Max Payne 3, but by the time the game is out and the DLC is barely making it's rounds, the Next gen consoles will already be out and who's going to pay for DLC for a game an older system? You can argue that people will still play it, of course they will, Me included, but that's a small minority. Sales will spike from launch day for those games, but they will drastically decline once the PS4 and Xbox One are out.

There's the fact that the games may be released on the console 6-12 months after the console is already out, but still. Again, I'm just basing this off what I fell, and I honestly feel this will happen.

I would not be surprised if a few of the games you mentioned, in fact, are in development for next-gen consoles (MGSV, GTAV, Beyond: Two Souls). But this happens with every cycle. The last killer app for the PS2 was God of War II, which came out 5 months AFTER PS3. I think, from a business perspective, it makes more sense because you have a far greater install base with the older consoles and therefore can reach a bigger audience. This is the reason Gran Turismo 6 is releasing on PS3 instead of PS4 (although Sony did not deny that a PS4 version is in development). Having said that, the major releases will not last longer than maybe 6-9 months after PS4 and Xbox One launch.

So far none of those games are in development, but I see where you coming from. I look forward to seeing what happens in the coming year in the gaming world.

You are probably right. I just wouldn't be surprised if we saw Metal Gear Solid V or Grand Theft Auto V eventually make the jump to PS4 and X1. I think we are in for some pretty exciting months with E3 in just 3 weeks and Gamescom in August. We'll see the Playstation 4 at E3 and I'm sure we'll get pricing and release dates for both consoles. I hope that a number of these bad rumors for the X1 turn out to be false, but Microsoft's actions today suggest that they are in fact true. I do think though, that both Microsoft and Sony will have far more interesting E3 presentations than Nintendo, which will promote the Wii U by announcing 17 more Mario games.

Nintendo is even having a press conference, which tells me that they've pretty much given up. Their fault and loss to be honest. Not everyone will be playing Super Mario forever.

But I'm sure The Legend Of Zelda - Wind Waker HD will make for some serious, stiff competition against Watch Dogs, Call Of Duty: Ghosts, and Beyond: Two Souls.

Anyway, taking a break from the X1,PS4 and Wii U, I am rethinking my desire to have Ubisoft pick up the Bond license. I'm currently playing through Splinter Cell Conviction and I've got to say, that I am not at all impressed. SC has really gone downhill since Chaos Theory. Double Agent was a disappointing entry and Conviction is even worse. Ubisoft's other franchises have gone stale as well with AC3 and AC:R both being very underwhelming entries. The last 2 PoP games have also failed to impress. It seems that Ubisoft has lost their way somewhere and have had much trouble finding their way back. While I like the idea of Ubisoft far more than EA or Activision for Bond, I think that they will also fall into the money-whore trap and create vastly inferior games just in the hopes of cashing in on the Bond name. (I am looking forward to Watch Dogs though).

Double Agent is the worst in my opinion, I only played one or two levels of Conviction and had enough. Assassin's Creed never clicked with me therefore I hate it, and it's becoming the Next COD. Prince Of Persia 2008 was awful so was the 2010 game. Far Cry 3 is amazing though. I don't really care for EA anymore, but if a company was to pick up the Bond License, I'd go with Valve, then again that's just a want. They wont do it.

I'll have to check out Far Cry 3. I didn't like the second one and never played the first, but I've heard good things about 3. Valve would be interesting. Half-Life is arguably one of the greatest games of all-time. Portal is a lot of fun too. I think they'd do okay with the Bond license, provided they don't go all sci-fi with it.

The First one is good, a decent FPS game. The spinoff titles from the first one are loads of fun. Far Cry 2 is interesting as it's much larger and more RPG oriented, but fails. 3 is a masterpiece. As for Bond, I'd like Valve, but Knowing them, they'd pass on it.

I haven't finished Far Cry 3 yet, but it really is an amazing and fun game. The atmosphere is really cool and there is a lot to do in the game, it's definitely worth a playthrough I will say.

Finished playing Splinter Cell: Conviction. I rate it 6.5/10. If not for the fact that Sam Fisher is the main character, I wouldn't even call this a Splinter Cell game. Clearly the developers felt, that the spy genre wasn't working and so they went all action-y with it. The gameplay is nearly identical to 007: Blood Stone, complete with the melee kills and executions. The story is bland. Sam's daughter actually did not die prior to the events of Double Agent and he was a pawn, some jackass is planning to kill the president, yada-yada-yada. The visuals also are not representative of a 2010 game at all. They look poor even when compared with Double Agent, which released in 2006. Clearly Splinter Cell's heyday was on the sixth generation consoles with the original Splinter Cell, Pandora Tomorrow and the superb Chaos Theory. Even the PS2/Original Xbox version of Double Agent was better than the X360/PS3 one. Since then, they have struggled just to release one game (Conviction is the only SC game in the last 7 years). I am not really looking forward to Blacklist and unless Ubisoft does something radical and big, I'm sad to say that Splinter Cell may just be dead.

I hope it does too, but as I pointed out a few posts ago, Ubisoft's track record has not been good lately. For that reason, (and because the last good Splinter Cell game released in 2005) I shan't hold my breath.

Splinter Cell 1

Pandora Tomorrow

Chaos Theory

Double Agent

Conviction

Double Agent and Conviction are on 360, but they both suck. SC1 and Chaos Theory are the best.

Star Trek (2013 game) - 7/10 (PS3 version)

After finishing Star Trek, I don't really know what all the fuss was about. Yes it did have some odd glitches, but it never made the game unplayable. I had a lot of fun playing it and it fits in well right between the 2009 film and Into Darkness. There is even a mention of events in the game in Into Darkness. The story involves the Gorn stealing a device called Helios, which the Vulcan developed to assist in the colonizing of New Vulcan. The crew of the Enterprise must retrieve it as well as find a cure for a mysterious illness that is plaguing not just the crew, but citizens of New Vulcan as well. The story is nice and long and all of the film's cast members return to give excellent performances.

Graphically, it is not the most beautiful game out there, but it certainly isn't bad. The audio is great, although the music does get repetitive and boring after awhile.

Overall, Star Trek is a fun and lengthy game. It does appear to have shipped before the bugs could be completely fixed, however, at least in my experience it did not do much to hamper my playthrough (sidenote this was on the Playstation 3 version, so I cannot comment about either the X360 or PC versions).
