'Game of Thrones' Ed Skrein to replace Jason Statham in 'Transporter' reboot

Don't think they need a Transporter reboot. Why not just another film or 2...

TERMINATOR: GENESIS Casts its Kyle Reese!

http://www.aintitcool.com/node/66241

I think it is stupid and bat s*** crazy that they are rebooting a film series with the same lead actor who is 66 now.

Could you imagine if when they reboot CR(06) if it starred Pierce Brosnan or Dalton?

And now they cast Jai Courtney (JACK REACHER or as my friend calls it 'Jack Reach Around') as Kyle Reese who is only only 17 years younger then Jason Clarke (John Conner). Which would work but Emilia Clarke is only 26 (Sarach Conner). I know there characters age could be much different, just saying.

I mean what kind of film are they making...

Let's not forget his plank of wood performance in 'A Good Day To Die Hard'.

This can't be some attempt at keeping canon with the first 4 Terminator films now, even with Arnie being involved. It can't be, can it? It's too drastic casting for anything like that...

....I could be wrong, but it's very strange.

And the casting of Courtney suggests Reece is going to be a very action orientated character.

I actually liked his performance in "A Good Day...".

But I wonder in general how this "Terminator"-film will turn out.  What story will it really tell (that hasn´t already been told)?

T1:  A terminator gets sent back to kill the mother of the future resistance leader John Connor.  The resistance sends Reese back to protect the mother.  He succeeds and John Connor can be born and lead the resistance (with Reese, um, becoming Connor´s father).  Question: Who would have been Connor´s father instead?

T2:  Another terminator gets sent back to kill mother and son. The resistance sends back a terminator as well.  He succeeds and mother and son Connor can avoid the end of the world.  Question: Why don´t they send back another terminator to the timeframe of the first movie, trying to kill the mother again?  Or her mother?

T3:  Another (oh, boy) terminator gets sent back to do his thing.  This time... oops, the world ends, although Connor survives.  Question: see last question.

T4:  Connor fights with the resistance and... sorry, how did this film end?  Not by changing the course of history again, right?  I liked the movie but I actually forgot.  Question: if the robots are too dumb to kill John Connor´s mother - why are they still ruling the earth?

Still, if the new film has cast Sarah Connor and Kyle Reese again, it seems that the film is taking place in the present again (well, not the 80´s of the first film, I suspect, but an alternate present in the 2010´s.)  But what will they have to face?  Another terminator sent back to the present so they cannot, um, create the future John Connor again?  (Damn, these robots surely hate people having sex without a condom.  Kind of the anti-moralistic conservative position - are the robots too freewheeling for that?)

RoboCop(2014) - 1/5

Well I was supposed to see a screening of the new Jason Statham film Heat(a remake of the 1980's Burt Reynolds film of the same name), however I was denied access after filing something wrong and disclosing that I am a film reviewer (despite knowing that I can face a five to six figure fine and a lawsuit if I was disclose the littlest of things)

Anyways, forget the screener people and the screener guy who was the biggest A** on the planet. Instead of doing nothing, I ended up seeing this again. Why? I don't know, Probably hoping that I would be impresses upon the second time, except I was more disappointed than my first initial viewing.

The Story is essentially an updated retelling of the Verhoeven film, though there are differences, in fact great ones, so I'm not going to write about it since it's a synopsis we all know about it. Instead I'll be doing more of a dissection while alluding back to Verhoeven's film.

In this remake, all the character's are there and they allude to someone from the original film. Gary Oldman's Denntt Norton is Miguel Ferrer's Bob Norton, Michael Keaton's Raymond Sellars is Ronny Cox's Dick Jones, Michael K. Williams' Jack Lewis is Nancy Allen's Anne Lewis. There's other character's too, albeit new ones and such. Then There's Alex Murphy, or RoboCop. The problem with him is is is portrayed like any other Hollywood cop movie; mean, tough guy, yet good cop. We've seen it, and the way he carries himself before the accident doesn't make him likeable at all. Verhoeven's Murphy was a just a regular beat cop with a family, and while we weren't supposed to click with him, we did, especially after he was blown apart.

The original film's design for RoboCop was something that was different and unique. He couldn't move like a Terminator, but he was strong, and he was tough. RoboCop in this doesn't necessarily look like a robot either, or ManMachine. His armored suit looks more like some futuristic battle suit that jumped straight out of the video game "Crysis". In the original RoboCop could move, albeit slow since he's a machine, but here in this film he moves a bit quicker, and even runs. Surely this isn't that much of a problem, as I understand this film takes place in 2028, but what I do have a problem with is the fact during combat, and several other scenes, RoboCop moves like any other person, but more like a cop spun on a plethora of crack. Also, they should have just left him metallic silver, black doesn't look tactical, it's just a cheap ploy to make him look cool, and edgy for today.

Another problem are the action scenes. They feel forced rather than natural (if this makes sense). There's nothing spectacular or memorable about them, and this is a problem with many action movies from Hollywood today. It's nothing more than a been there done that. Also had a problem with RoboCop's super jump, it just makes it look laughable and slightly less robotic and believable, (yes this is science fiction, yes this is in the future, no I still don't like it.) Oh and the ED-209's CGI was bad too.

One of the last action films that was shot superbly was for me, Skyfall, then again Roger Deakins was behind the camera. In this RoboCop film, I feel as if it was secretly directed by Paul Greengrass (the man with the fetish for shaky cam) as there was a ridiculous amount of shaky cam in this film. Shaky cam is another cheap ploy to make the film have a raw, real look, but it comes off as just bad and the film doesn't really have it's own visual style in terms of cinematography and future Detroit design. Same goes with the editing too.

Call me crazy, but I honestly believe the film could have gone without Samuel L. Jackson's character, Patrick Novak, the television host who is for robots in America. He's more or less to bring us the latest on the news of crime under the control of robots, and can be looked at as a news/future satire look. I feel his character held the film back, and the news seemed to tell us what we already knew. Same thing with the lead up to Murphy's reveal to the public, it took too long and could have been trimmed down.

To the casual fan of the action genre this could come off as just being simply entertaining or "good". As a fan and lover of Verhoeven's RoboCop, I was very vocal on the remake. Seeing it again, It's just beyond disappointing that it falls in line with other mindless Hollywood action films and unnecessary remakes.

It would appear that Rooney Mara has been cast as Tiger Lily in Joe Wright's Peter Pan adaption.

Need For Speed - 4/5 - Directed by Scott Waugh - Starring Aaron Paul

Yeah, it's safe to say that I enjoyed this more than I thought I would. Scott Waugh's game to film adaption of the popular franchise Need For Speed is immensely entertaining, but never steps out of its own bounds. It's a racing film, but a revenge one at heart. To some it may come across as uninteresting or dull, but contrary to popular belief, it's surprisingly well made and better than the Fast & Furious franchise.

Aaron Paul graces the screen as Jesse Pinkman, I mean, Tobey Marshall, a blue collar mechanic with a heavy foot and happens to be one hell of a driver. Tobey, is framed for a crime he didn't commit, and two years later sets out for revenge. He sets out across country of the United States in a heavily modified Shelby Mustang to seek the one truly responsible for putting him behind bars and to win the popular annual race, The De Leon.

It is obvious that the games do not really have a clear story behind them, but that is okay, because it allow's the screenwriter to use little ideas from the twenty year old franchise and craft them together in an original film. It is a long film clocking in at 130 minutes, but it never feels like it's dreading along the asphalt. It's well paced and packed with lots of good adrenaline rushing action sequences.

The acting is pretty average from most of the cast, with Paul really being the only strong actor here. The direction was very top notch, especially the action sequences and I highly praise Scott Waugh for wanting to use practical effects over CGI as it made the film feel all the more real and felt more enjoyable. Also loved the nod to Bullitt in the film, that was great.

It's a pretty basic story, a revenge one, but the racing and the cars along with Paul make it highly watchable and it comes off, again, as a lot of fun. Like I said, I probably enjoyed this more than I possibly could have, but it was very well made. It really tops Fast & Furious 6 and the previous films by a good margin.

It may not seem like an ideal film to see, but it's a lot of fun during the Spring season and doesn't leave you disappointed.

It won't hurt the film's box office.  All of these YA films are savaged by the critics (and rightfully so), but still do big business.  I'd actually like to see it tank at the box office, though, as I'd rather see the types of young actors that they get for these films actually do something worthwhile with their talents rather than making more of these films.

I kind of figured as much. I really enjoyed the book a lot! I am assuming that they messed it up or the people who are watching the movie haven't read the book.

Divergent B/B+

Yesterday I went to see Divergent in theaters. Going into seeing it, I wasn’t sure what to expect. I loved the first book a lot so if this movie ended up being terrible, I would have been so disappointed.

The main plot of Divergent is Beatrice Prior (Shailene Woodley) is growing up in a dystopian society in Chicago. The citizens are divided into five factions: Dauntless (bravery), Amity (kind), Candor (honesty), Erudite (knowledge) and Abnegation (selflessness). At the age of 16, everyone is sorted into where they belong. This happens through taking an aptitude test. Beatrice goes into her test and she finds out she is Divergent. This means that she has traits that belong to multiple factions. In her case, she has traits that put her in Dauntless, Abnegation or Erudite. At the choosing ceremony, she can choose where she thinks she belongs. That's all I am really going to say about the plot without giving spoilers.

Thankfully, this movie ended up being pretty damn good. Shailene Woodley as Tris really worked. I thought her acting would have been sub par but no, she is actually great. She displays a lot of emotion in scenes that’s believable and she is a bad ass. She learns how to fight and how to use weapons. Theo James as Four just works. Theo himself is very believable. He is the picture I had of Four in the books as I was reading them. Four is very masculine and muscular but he is also vulnerable in his fears and emotions. Tris and Theo definitely have chemistry together and that is something that is really refreshing. Other characters like Peter (Miles Teller) and Christina (Zoe Kravitz) were very well cast.

Some things that I am disappointed about is they changed a lot of what happened in the book. Now I know that things have to be changed and a lot of the changes worked for the movie, but it is still disappointing. A lot of the book is left out, which is really disappointing, but expected.

Overall I really enjoyed the adaptation to Divergent. The acting is terrific, the action keeps you on the edge of your seat. It’s a really great action movie/book adaptation.

The Wachowskis are apparently planning new Matrix sequels. Um....why? Maybe they feel guilty and are just going to pretend that the Matrix sequels never happened and actually give us films worthy of the first.

Shailene Woodley is a much better actress than I thought. I mean I thought she was really bad in the Secret Life of the American Teenager, but she really redeemed herself in the Descendants. She was great in Divergent (screw what the critics think, I like the movie..)

I'm cautiously optimistic.  The cast is mostly good, and my only real problem with it was that they were rebooting Terminator before they even finished the previous iteration of the franchise.

Still, Arnold's in it, and that's enough to get me there.  It's very rare that a Schwarzenegger film isn't entertaining.

Not sure how I feel about this. Yes, James Bond has survived and thrived with different actors as Bond. However, Indiana Jones isn't James Bond. I'll admit that Bradley Cooper somewhat resembles a younger Harrison Ford. But would it really be Indiana Jones without Ford? I suppose if the script is good and they find the right actor....maybe. The problem is Raiders of the Lost Ark is my all-time favorite movie and Harrison Ford is my all-time favorite actor. So unlike with James Bond, it would take an awful lot for me to get behind someone else in the role.
