I'm now convinced that it will reach a billion. In fact, I think there is a possibility that it will get there before it opens in China.

This is a post a made back on page 2 of this thread...

Inflation adjusted, the top 10 Bond films are…

1. $1,037,291,060.32 - Thunderball
2. $932,346,267.74 - Goldfinger
3. $843,280,463.96 - Live And Let Die
4. $773,204,227.54 - You Only Live Twice
5. $707,967,950.50 - The Spy Who Loved Me
6. $682,098,608.86 - Casino Royale
7. $670,341,133.13 - Moonraker
8. $662,795,358.02 - Diamonds Are Forever
9. $629,928,504.77 - Quantum Of Solace
10. $596,667,068.63 - From Russia With Love

We know it’s going in there somewhere.
I’m going to stick my neck out even further and say that this film could push LALD out of position 3.

Time to amend that, it seemed like a brave and ambitious prediction at the time. It will be at number 3 by this time next week.
Now I'm going to say that I think Skyfall can go all the way to the top. Goldfinger and Thunderball looked untouchable for years - Who would have thought it?

A couple weeks ago I thought a billion dollars was just wishful thinking. I figured the project $850 million was probably accurate. Now it seems as though Skyfall may indeed crack the billion dollar mark.

It really is pretty remarkable. I feel like everybody hit a cinema to see this one. I've asked co-workers, friends, even passer-bys and they all agree on either wanting to see or have already seen the film (and enjoyed it).

The success is much deserved of course. At least it'll serve as some incentive that what they did/who was on the project worked. ;)

Skyfall should overtake avatar as the number 1 movie of all time in the UK soon, if it hasn't already. According to Screen Daily

Still going strong in its fifth weekend was Sony’s record breaker Skyfall as it remained in second. The latest Bond mission shot its way to a further estimated $6.3m (£3.9m) for a mighty $144.5m (£90m) to date. If that estimate holds up, Skyfall is now within £4m of overtaking Avatar as the biggest grosser of all time in the UK

The article was released yesterday.

Personally, I'm not fussed if Skyfall makes a billion (technically a milliard). I don't think it will, but we'll see. I definitely want it to overtake Avatar to top the all-time UK box office chart, though. That's the important milestone for me. The billion mark, would be a bonus.

I'm thinking it definitely could reach $1 billion and if it does EON will pull out all the stops to get Mendes back. However, I still don't think it will do anything for Oscar hopefuls.

"Lincoln" came extremely close on thursay, so I bet, that "Lincoln" will be the No. 1 movie at the US box office this weekend.

Also has the highest opening weekend of any spy film, by about $15,300,000 - the next highest being Austin Powers in 2002!

I think the second Mission: Impossible is easily the weakest in the franchise (I've enjoyed the other three), so I'm surprised it did so well at the box office. Nice that Skyfall now tops the list!

Does anybody know how well Casino and Quantum did in Japan and China overall? Just trying to guess how much we can expect from those markets.

Quantum did about 20, but it's a completely different ballgame over there now. They've opened up a lot more. The Dark Knight Rises and the new Spider-Man both did about 50 million. I'd bet on that as a minimum. That said, it wasn't a coincidence that 2 big locations were Shanghai and Macau. Also note that Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol is one of the highest grossing films over there. So the spy genre plays well I think though that was an American, not sure about British.

Don't think at all, that Lincoln can overtake both TL and SF. But chance is, tat SF will end this weekend on top, with TL 2nd and Lincoln 3rd.
