Skyfall Boxoffice

It was at one of the larger screens, Odeon Brighton.
Wednesday is looking to be surprisingly good in the U.S. - $7.3m to $8.3m. Deadline are predicting the lower end of that. Remember, last weekend's first box-office report from them had Skyfall projected at $31m, but it ended up over $41m. Anyway, even $7.3m would be great.
EDIT: Wednesday will be about $7.5, very good.

Very interesting. I wish they had mentioned where the partner company goes. Whether this goes directly into the Eon budget or whether it is considered as all part of the profits to be divvied up at the end accounting.
But, 75% profits equally between MGM and Eon, and 25% to Sony is a good start.
But one of my questions above was, is the profit actual ticket sales, or just the rental money the cinemas give to the distributors for the film? Because then the cinemas have then to make their own profit after the rental costs.

How is it doing adjusted to 2008 money? Is there much difference?
http://www.boxoffice...d=jamesbond.htm
Inflation adjusted, and going by the Deadline projections it will be close to tied with Die Another Day in total gross by Sunday (and will pass Moonraker shortly after that to be #4 in US grosses among Bond movies behind Thunderball, Goldfinger, and You Only Live Twice).

Cheers Ray,When I worked for UCI/Odeon a few years back, during my uni years, we were told that the cinema makes its money from the popcorn and food etc. Surprisingly the cinema makes little from the ticket sales. One reason why cinema food is so expensive.
But does the cinema make Anything from ticket sales, or is it essentially a popcorn seller that can show films at the same time? i.e., does it get the films free and then sell popcorn?
Thanks.

This is a bit off topic, but It's true, The Theater/Cinema makes more money off of the concession stand, arcade, etc. I'm sure they get a slight percentage of ticket sales.
In the novel 'Prince Of Thieves' (adapted as a film by WB as 'The Town') The group of bank robbers decide to rob a movie theater instead of a bank or armored car. The way it worked was they chose a summer blockbuster film, opening weekend, more screenings for the film, the admission money, the money from the concession stand, arcade etc would come out to a total of easily close to half a million. Which makes sense with the ridiculous prices of beverages, popcorn, hot dogs etc. Everyone going to see the one big movie it's possible for it to make just that much based on concession.
About six years ago I saw a film with my parents and brother, tickets and concession about $115.
again, sorry for going off-topic for this, Hoped this helped to a certain extent.
Theaters make more off of the concession.

A cinema owner once explained to me how it works in Germany: The cinema gets a certain percentage of the ticket price, on a week by week basis. The longer the film runs, the higher their percentage gets. The distribution company sets the ratio, individually for every film. The cinema usually starts very low at maybe five or ten percent (or less) in the first week, and in the, say, 15th week, they may get around 20 or 25 percent (please note that all the figures I mention are pure guesswork). But by that time, every man and his dog has seen the movie and the cinemas are empty, and as a consequence, those 25 percent may be the same amount of money as with five percent of a packed cinema. I know a cinema where CR was on for spectacular 22 weeks (until two weeks before the DVD release). I was there in that last week, three peole had the whole cinema for themselves. With an estimated 30 percent share for the cinema, they didn't even make a tenner from that screening.
So, in order to make money, the cinema has to run hours of adverts and trailers, and sell popcorn and nachos and icecream and drinks and everything...
Almost the guy's exact words.essentially a popcorn seller that can show films at the same time?

What are we at now? I heard that it was passing 750 million this weekend total.
Amazingly, Friday's U.S. totals are up over 20% from last Friday! The U.S. box office is now over $200 million (estimated) and if today's and tomorrow's numbers are higher than last weekend's, we can be over $230 million by tomorrow at this time. Absolutely amazing, with a good chance of surpassing $250 million domestically, perhaps by a lot! Far more than even I thought we would see.
The world box office is updated Monday or Tuesday, so over $750 million by the end of this weekend is a very strong possibility.

Domestic - $200,470,000
Foreign - $507,900,000
Worldwide - $708,370,000
And the weekend isn't even over yet!

Do you think Skyfall has a chance at reaching 300 million domestically?
Depends on how strong it performs over the Christmas holidays.

After 15 Days (US Box Office)Do you think Skyfall has a chance at reaching 300 million domestically?
Casino Royale -> $105.3 million
Quantum of Solace ->$130.7 million
Skyfall -> $200.4 million
Casino Royale did 37% of its total US box office after day 15.
Quantum of Solace did 18% of its total US box office after day 15.
This would put Skyfall between $236 million (18%) and $274 million (37%).
I would guess Skyfall's word-of-mouth and repeat business would mirror CR more closely than QoS.

http://www.boxoffice.../?id=bond23.htm
$221.7 million domestic, $568.4 million foreign = $790.1
Also it is now the 4th highest grossing Bond film domestically adjusting for inflation (top 3 are Thunderball, Goldfinger, and YOLT). 1st two are out of reach but it is about $60 million away from YOLT.
It will pass Bourne Ultimatium to be the biggest grossing movie in the Spy genre of all time in the next couple days.

Even with Twilight competition, should easily make it past 250 million, possibly to 300 million domestically by the end of it's run. Very impressed by SF's box office so far, and 210 million away from earning 1 billion total.Wow, I thought it was just going to hit $750 million this weekend. Nearly $800 million instead! I won't complain. The box office of this film continues to amaze me.

It's been an all around resounding success.HOLY s***! I never would've thought it would be at almost $800M worldwide that fast!
Skyfall has debuted strongly in Australia, raking in $12,304,513. Debuting at number one on 595 screens, outperforming the opening weekend of Quantum of Solace by 84 per cent. Making it the biggest opening for a Bond film in Australia.

That's really impressive! As a comparison The Avengers made just under 14 million in its opening Weekend and went on to make 54 million (Ordinarily I'd say those type of numbers might be out of reach for a Bond film, but if Skyfall goes as well in Australia as it has the rest of the world we'll probably see it make between 40 and 50 million in Australia...the more I see these numbers the more it looks like 1 billion may be within reach.)

At this rate, with China and Japan still to come, it could be a damned close run thing as to whether it will reach $1bn.
