Such a wonderful mix, it's hard to explain why it's going so well!

Can you pin-point what it is that has sparked such a passion for this film and all things Bond? Is it the 50th Anniversary? The director's credentials? The cast? Berenice Marlohe?
Such a wonderful mix, it's hard to explain why it's going so well!
I'd like to think it's the audience responding to outright quality film making.

I have NEVER seen a movie promoted like this one has. Ads for months, a part in the Olympics, commercials, internet ads, youtube...soooooo much advertising and then to back that up with a great movie...perfect storm. Can you pin-point what it is that has sparked such a passion for this film and all things Bond? my safe bet is 700 mil ))
I wouldn’t call that a 'safe bet'. I say it's a very risky one, as it very much looks like doing better than that.
Skyfall will be over $500m by this Sunday night.

Everything seems to come together wonderfully this time.
And as they say, absence makes the heart grow fonder. Four years without a new Bond created a massive must-see. Also the exaggerated reports of "maybe there will never be a new Bond film anymore" a few years before.
"Goldeneye" profited from that, too.

*The chart actually lists the film at 20, but that is showing the $289 takings, I have moved it up 3 places taking into account that it is closer to over $320 now.

Yes, yes. “Skyfall” did open to $30.8 million on Friday making it the biggest opening night ever for a James Bond movie. It now has $33 million in the bank counting Thursday IMAX sales. By Sunday night, “Skyfall” could have $70 million in total or more, assuring it of its place as the number 1 Bond film of all time. Director Sam Mendes told our Leah Sydney he’s “thinking about” directing Bond 24 and 25, but after this — “Skyfall” will have more than $400 mil worldwide on Monday– I’m sure the producers will want him back for at least one of the next ones. And how about Adele? Anyway, maybe Judi Dench can be persuaded to come back, too, now that she’s a “Bond girl.”

That would make $70m for just up to Saturday night, with Sunday still to come - very, very good.

87... as in million

Also:
"Skyfall is doing massive business overseas, where it grossed $89 million during the weekend for an international total of $428.6 million." So we crossed the 500m$ mark in just two weeks. We still have Australia, China and Japan to open. It seems that 800m$ is a done deal. I had doubts about passing LALD but it seems very possible now. We will see.

Do we think that it could surpass Avatar's £94m? It had the advantage of the 3D tickets, but so did HP8 and Toy Story 3 and they're going to fall behind tomorrow. Is another £22m doable? I think, with the legs Skyfall is showing - taking £11 million this weekend - it is indeed doable. The UK fell off just 30% in its 3rd weekend, grossing a huge $18.2 to bring the market cume to $117.5. Skyfall is now the 4th biggest film of all time in the UK with £72.9 million in the bank (and the biggest non-3D film), behind Avatar (£94.0 million), Toy Story 3 (£73.8 million), and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 (£73.1 million). By tomorrow it will be #2 of all time.
