Really? Everyone in the universe has been raving about it! No spoilers please. Why was it terrible?
Nice to know 2 mins of Skyfall is better than 2.5 hours of Batman!

When you're a die-hard Batman fan like me you'll be walking out of that theater wishing Skyfall had already been out.

You'll have to scroll down a bit more to see mine. something got messed up a bit. Sorry for that.

I found the video on YouTube and couldn't watch more than three seconds of it. Surely this trailer will eventually appear online in a tolerably viewable form? I'm a theater-hating recluse, so if it doesn't appear online, I'll never see it.

I recommend holding out as long as you can. As someone lucky enough to have seen the exclusive, this clip fails to even get close to how strong it is and I'd strongly suggest you wait if possible. Seeing the great new material in high quality will resonate much more strongly.

My God. My...my...god.

I'll be the first to admit I'm the textbook type of fan who gets far too overly excited with every trailer release...but having just come back from seeing the Skyfall IMAX trailer the proper way, I can honestly say - with no hesitation - that it's one of the best trailers I've ever seen cut.

That bootleg doesn't even come close to conveying what a full screen does. Everything about that trailer is amazing. It's so good, so Bond - that it's overpowering.

The intensity is as high as a Bond trailer's ever been, by sheer miles. The music is indeed the James Bond theme, re-orchestrated and remixed in a way that we've never heard before - albeit heavily disguised and with added dimension, likely why many haven't come away with a sense that it's there. My sister - call her, a casual Bond fan - even leaned over to me and said, "I'd recognize those chords anywhere." And the sheer speed of the trailer is just insane. I think they show off parts of every major sequence.

Deakins' cinematography floored me. This film is in a completely different league than anything we've ever seen from Bond before. It's far too early and a ridiculously small sample size, but if any Bond ever has had a shot at a cinematography Oscar - this is going to be the one.

The action. Casino Royale's action is back. It's not the carelessly strung together, confusing, second-unit drivel Dan Bradley assembled and Pearson/Chesse hacked up and served to us on a dish labelled "Quantum of Solace." There's narrative. Impact. Style. It feels like Bond action the way Bond action feels different from all other action.

And Bond.

It's just...it's classic Bond. Barring some horrible script screwup, I can't foresee not loving this movie. Every inch of every shot of that trailer feels like it's classic Bond, a highly stylized mid-1960s iconic touchstone with a contemporary edge and overtones. Craig oozes the Bond persona as far as it can possibly go to a respective, non-parody point. It's brilliant. . The way he teases 'Q' is delivered with the dry, dark, slightly damaged humour that James Bond just...is. And when he says "the line," it's like he physically leans into it.

Phew. Had to get that out. Legitimately the best 'trailer' experience I've ever had in a cinema. I'm 27 and cynical. I don't get moved like that. Ever. And I got moved.

And oh, yeah. TDKR is not at all a terrible film. The negative reviews are rightly entitled to their beefs - it's a flawed film - but it's still a great film.

It's billeted very distinctly as 'IMAX presents....an IMAX Skyfall exclusive", or something to that effect. I've never, in my life, seen a trailer presented that way.

I highly doubt it will be made available online.

I'm not sure they measure never in days. :(

I really have no way of knowing, TBH. It's gotten such explosively good feedback, maybe they cave and put it online. But I doubt it. I'm guessing the new theatrical cut will be on Total Recall - it's the only Sony release that makes sense - and they won't want the IMAX trailer competing with it for publicity, or confusing people.

Oh and Matt, many thanks for that enthusiastic response. Made my day.

One thing, can you, by memorie alone, recall what scene preceded the Q intro? Looked like something blue, some graphics perhaps? Oh, and does Bond really lean into Severine when he says the line?

Cheers.

@univex My pleasure. The experience was honestly as cool as my hyperbole makes it sound. I enjoyed it that much.

A few things stuck out, re: the questions above -

-Can't tell you what that graphic is before Q. Some sort of computer readout, I'd gather. Went by too fast.

-I didn't mean Bond physically leans into Severine. I just mean, his delivery is so loaded. It's like he's putting his weight behind it. There are only so many ways you can interestingly say, "Bond, James Bond." I'd assumed we'd heard them all. You get a sense of it in the bootleg, but nothing compares to seeing it real. It's just such a powerful delivery of the line. It's like a definitive apology by the filmmakers for it not being in Quantum of Solace.

-M says something to Fiennes (who's sitting across from her, BTW) about "all her operatives pursuing every possible avenue." I think.

-Bond says "Trust me" to Eve in the Land Rover right before he reaches over and physically pulls the wheel away from her, presumably ramming the black car they're chasing and sending it flipping over some stuff.

-The Q scene got a massive response in my screening. That pause after Bond says "Hard to know which in your pajamas" got a huge laugh, and then when Bond called him Q, a bunch of people cheered.

-They show a surprising amount of footage from the subway action and lodge finale set pieces. More than I'd expected and yet, somehow, almost "nothing at all." It's a weird feeling in retrospect. I know I saw a lot, but can't remember much of it.

-I can't say enough good things about the music. Really. I'm a 'James Bond Theme' whore and I can separate and specify by ear pretty much every variation that's been recorded to date, including its use in all the different score tracks. This new mix is riveting. It's not outwardly the Bond theme, as I mentioned above. But it's unmistakably the Bond theme. And it's heavily orchestral, despite what those teaser trailer techno beats would have you believe. The finale of the trailer - which you can't hear in the bootleg - sounded an awful lot like a remix of the 'be-bop' section but much faster and powerful than we've heard. Sort of like it was used during the boat chase finale in QOS.

I'm quite annoyed as I saw TDKR today at an IMAX and the Skyfall trailer was NOT showed. If Sony doesn't put the trailer online maybe they could at least put up a listing of the theaters playing the trailer.

Resounding yes on both counts.

The idea of doing Skyfall 'on the cheap' or it being 'an austerity Bond' are completely dead sentiments to me now. This film looks to dwarf the previous two Craig films in sheer scope. It feels comparable to Die Another Day in terms of scale and ambition, but all the 'ridiculous over the top-ness' has been replaced with 'classiness.'

Deakins' contribution can really be felt there, too. They seem to have filtered everything set in Macau so that it has a red/golden hue, which just makes it seem otherwordly in a cool way. Turkey stands out for its beauty, London feels like a dynamic location whereas it's been an exposition backdrop in the past, and Scotland feels like....well, Scotland on a cloudy day.

I can't comment on what's exotic or not to different people, but to me, it just feels like Bond.

RE: the swagger/style combo. Granted, small sample size we're dealing with - but yes, in what I've seen, it's back. It's resoundingly back. Craig's performance feels like a 3-way blend of definitive Craig Bond, definitive Fleming Bond, and a heaping dose of Connery Bond.

Example: There's this one shot - sort of half visible in the bootleg - where he jumps down into a train car as the entire thing is ripped away behind him. Just absolute carnage, and while it's happening, he's completely ignoring it as he walks toward the screen, adjusting his goddamn cuffs. It's 007. It's pure, classic, cinematic 007 - but with a heavy literary influence evident in the character moments.

That would have gutted me. I was beyond psyched to see it, when the 'Skyfall' header came up at the start I felt this immense relief wash over me. lol

I live in New Zealand, and I had to travel 5 hours to go to an IMAX screening of Batman. The reason being mainly to see the new James Bond trailer, (being a Batman fan as well it was good to see it on bigger and better screen). But no Skyfall trailer was shown. I asked my friend in another city and he said that it was played in his showing, I was pissed off! I asked a few staff about it and they didn't seem to have the fuzziest. I could have waited around for almost 2 hours to talk to a projectionist who seem to be the only staff that have a clue but I had to be somewhere. Sometimes I wish I worked at a movie theater. Here is hoping they put it online for us less fortunate. Why should we who can't access IMAX screens miss out?!

At least release in online a couple weeks after?

That sucks havok_007. Hope you enjoyed Bat Man. It's disappointing hearing about those who go out of their way to see the Skyfall trailer in an IMAX one and don't see it.

I love these reviews though, with that much talent you would hope Skyfall will get some Oscar nominations.

I paid $40 for advance tickets for a friend and I to see Dark Knight in "fake" Imax. After hearing the Skyfall trailer would probably only be shown in real 70mm Imax (not even sure I was right about that) I paid another $40 to see it there. Because it took so long to get the large crowd in and out of the theater, the movie started about 20mins late, so they started the movie without showing any trailers.

$80 to see a movie I didn't really like and no Skyfall trailer.

Great B)

But attaching a theatrical trailer to it was only a guess on my part - based on the fact that, if memory serves, there are literally no other major worthwhile releases between that and Skyfall, especially for Sony/MGM themselves, right?
