Going back to the issue of extras. I honestly can't see why anyone gets worked up about new editions of Bond blu-rays not featuring anything new on the extras front. The current extras are so exhausting, there can't possibly be anything else they have excluded. And anything 'new' they do rustle up is not exactly going to be essential.

It seems the already released Blu-rays will also be available from Oct 2. New covers as well, and you guessed it, they look absolutely horrible:

These covers looks good, IMO.
I have already ordered the box set. The film I am looking forward to the most on Blu-Ray is TSWLM, closely followed by OP. Hopefully, they have given these films the royal treatment they deserve! But I have no reason to doubt it since the other Moore-Bonds (LALD, TMWTGG, MR, FYEO) looked absolutly stunning on Blu-Ray. It will also be interesting to see what they have achieved with DAF this time... and OHMSS... and YOLT.

Further, can someone please explain to me why there's a helicopter featured on the cover for TMWTGG? Considering TMWTGG is one of only 2 Bond flicks without a 'copter used somewhere in the movie, I'm dumbfounded. These covers are sloppy, uninspired, and a total insult to the artists who created the classic promo campaigns for 007 throughout the years. Okay, maybe the poster for LTK was a low-water mark of 007 advertising, but even that generic concept is stronger than the new Blu cover.
Speaking of which, does anyone know the specifics about why most of the original theatrical one-sheet designs have never been used for any of the DVDs or Blu-rays? The original CBS/Fox VHS releases all featured original theatrical artwork, and even a few of the laserdiscs, too. (I know, I know, I'm dating myself here!) I assume it's a copyright quagmire complicated by the many studios historically involved in the distribution of Bond—Sony, Fox, MGM, (departed) U/A, yada yada—but don't recall ever reading a definitive answer on this.

As for the poster art, I don't imagine there's anything truly stopping then from using the original posters. The first MGM/UA VHS versions (the ones with the gold bar at the top labelled "The Connery [or Moore] Classics") didn't use the poster art, but there was another MGM/UA VHS release in the early 1990's (around 1994 I think) which did use the original poster art. The spines of the videos had a gun barrel background. I believe this was the last series before the ever common "The James Bond 007 Collection" versions.

It's as if the studios think that no film fan would possibly ever conceive of handing over money for a blu-ray if there's a painting on the front cover! Heaven forbid!

I feel fortunate enough to have a few of the original-poster-art VHS tapes from that series - And they look very cool indeed from cover to spine. Very smart and consistent design.

From what I remember, not all the CBS/Fox VHS had the original movie posters as the VHS box art. FRWL and YOLT did not have it. For FRWL they the boat sence where Sean Connery is pointing the flear gun and about to fire. Fro YOLT it was the scence where Sean Connery was being chased in Japan at a harbor warehouse, and beside some cargo box and fires with his Walter PPK. For Thunderball it used one of the posters. But not the look up, look down look out one. For Dr. No they did use the poster version of Sean Connery sitting down with the gun. But the rest of the posterlike the background and so on. Also his tux looks to be dark blue not like poster's or the sideshow box one.The background of the VHS box is just black.

I've got all of the "James Bond 007 Collection" on VHS as well as all the gold bar versions, but only The Man With The Golden Gun from the poster art series. The front even opens up like a book with a synopsis and stills from the film. Very cool packaging! I also have The Man With The Golden Gun from it's original CBS/FOX release still sealed.

I have no fundamental problem with not using the posters but some/many of the images used are such ropy pieces of Photoshop that it's embarrassing. We've had pics of the Bonds from the wrong films and in the wrong outfits, holding the wrong guns and sometimes with hands that were probably not theirs. The new covers seem to have been victim to too much dodge/burn/smart blur or other filters.
I wonder whether using the original art would mean paying people like Robert McGinnis/Dan Goozee royalties and that EON just get someone to do something in house.
I had toyed with the idea of getting the individual discs but these new covers have put me right off. Was that really the best pic from TWINE to use? Have a feeling that the person responsible was trying to apply a Quantum vibe to the earlier films.
Hey ho.

The artwork for the Craig set is nice. Cool photo.
Agreed. They did to a pretty good job on that one.
I also like the GoldenEye cover posted above, but I'd like it more if the image was actually centered. It just looks a bit awkward with Bond as far over to the side he is, where he's almost not the focal point of the image. I very much like the concept of the cover, though.

Once again, no original cover artwork, I think it's time for me to start some sort of petition website (similar to that Star Wars original trilogy one) 'originalbondposterartwork.com' or something, because I am
getting really tired of this.
For every bad bit of artwork we get, I'm going to kill a kitten.
Having said that, that OHMSS cover is actually something special.

Oooh, I love that shot of Craig.
Oh, by the way...
Thank you! I am digging these new blu ray covers! Very cool and modern. Love it.
For those that don't like the covers, I'm sure there will be more fan made ones for you to make, etc..
Any more news on the other 6 007 titles coming out individually on blu ray? That is the 3 at the top of the picture here are confirmed for Wal Mart exclusive.
Thanks!
I'm half tempted to switch to the individual ones, but price wise it will be better to get the box set as I want them all. Plus I'll get the bonus disc too. I'm sure they are also including the resume play feature too.
Looking forward to the end of September!!!
The OHMSS and GoldenEye covers look pretty good. If it wasn't for the bonus disc in the Blu-ray box set I actually might have considered buying them separately just to have individual cases for all them and uniform spines across my shelf.
Same here!!!
I am absolutely fuming!

At least we will have all of the films on blu ray finally.
How much time do you guys spend looking at the covers???
I'm sorry, it's just one of those things though. It's all about marketing. Especially to people who aren't Bond fans. They know we are going to buy as fans.
So they make them match and have a very clean look. I think they are great covers.
The original posters were done for marketing of the films during the eras they were released.
Anyway. Just enjoy the fact the films are all coming to blu ray!
We Bond fans have waited over 5 years for this!!!
