Just got major Déjà vu. Anyway yes. Infact, I think that the Pit Fight is Granborough Road, too.

George Martin's effort is excellent. Serra gets big marks with his Goldeneye Overture alone. He really left an impact on me with that style of sound. I'd rank Newman in the top three of non Barry scores. It's a good one from my point of view. And more importantly, these three scores (I'm going on viewer feedback, eg. marktmurphy's comment) fit the respective films like a glove.

Interesting how this score is really dividing listeners.

And shocking, too. Since Newman really excels at using the Bond theme in so many varied ways, employing many new themes and really tailoring the score to the film.

A shame, IMO, if some people do not recognize its brilliance.

On the whole Thomas Newman has done a good job. I would have liked a tad more "interpolations" of the title track and the Norman theme, but it works as a mix of modern and classic orchestral, and most importantly it works within the film.

Having seen SF twice now - and enjoyed it even more second time around, normally my feelings dip a bit on viewing 2 as I spot the flaws! - the film strikes me as probably the most "patriotic" of the Bonds, and one of the most poignant, and this I find in the tracks "Voluntary Retirement", "Tennyson" and "Mother". SF is a film in which "M" plays a very important role, and the tracks reflect that.

Have to be honest and say I wasn't really a fan of this quickly mashed together suite. I would have preferred to hear the Adele song again somewhere in there - if only for nostalgia (yes, remember when the main-titles and end-titles used the same theme song? Would have been a nice nod). I personally feel they could have capitalised more on this track - but I suspect that's just me...

Popping back in for a second solely to ask - is Old Dog, new Tricks really not in the film? If not, that's a damn shame. I never did listen to the full album during all the hoopla a few weeks ago, but from what I heard, that track was a damn standout.

06. Shanghai Drive - Bond in disguise at the airport watching Severine and Patrice, then tailing Patrice across the Yan'an highway.
Reprise of the mysterioso opening of Grand, Bizarre (IIRC without the brassy stinger) as Patrice kills the guards at the lobby, then follows Patrice across the first floor, using the dead bodies as footprints.
07. Jellyfish - Bond grabs onto the lift and tries to fight the pain. Ends with the assassination.
08. Silhouette - Begins with fight, and ends with Bond questioning a hanging Patrice (who doesn't answer) until he's sucked out by the wind current.
09. Modigliani - An admiring Severine spots Bond, he vanishes, and then he analyses the left-over machinery (rifle and glass cutter)..
17. Close Shave - Eve drops by.
31 Old Dog, New Tricks (unused) - Replaced by Moonlight - Jun Chen - Bond and Eve chat and she gives him a wet shave. Mallory's military background is revealed..

Someone Usually Dies - Very effective cue as Bond lets Severine know that he's aware of her three bodyguards, he identifies the tattoo on her wrist, wins her trust, raises a glass to the three thugs. Reminiscent of the beach scene with Bond and Domino in TB, along with Bond and Viv in Fleming's TSWLM.
19. Granborough Road - The pit fight with Komodo Dragons
04. Severine - The shower scene.
16. The Chimera - Severine's yacht (the Chimera) taking Bond to Silva's island.

Well, I have a preference for the "travel"-cues like "Brave New World" / "Komodo Dragon" / "The Chimera".

But I love "New Digs" too, as well as "Shangai Drive", "Quartermaster" and "The Moors".

However, "Jellyfish" and "She's Mine" are really to much Batman/Spiderman-like for me.
