Haven't seen many 2012 movies, tbh. Just:

Skyfall: Best of them, emotioned me like a kid and also laughed much

Ted: The plot was not original, but I laughed so much! The funniest of the three, I suggest to watch it for the laughs and not for the plot.

Wreck-It-Ralph: As a videogamer I couldn't dislike this, it certainly is one if not the best thing Disney has made in years. Liked it a lot.

Jack Reacher - 5/5. I walked in with pretty decent expectations thinking it was going to be another action film, but starring Tom Cruise. Boy, was I wrong. Loved. It's not just an action film, it's got mystery, crime, and even a bit of a thriller vibe to it. I thought Cruise was fantastic in the film, would love a sequel based on the other 'Jack Reacher' novels to be made. Great film.

My Current Top Ten List for 2012:

1.) Skyfall

2.) Jack Reacher

3.) Seven Psychopaths

4.) Dredd

5.) The Grey

6.) Savages

7.)

8.)

9.)

10.)

Must See: Django Unchained, Looper, Lawless, and End Of Watch, and a few others before I finish it. Afterwards, Re-arranging may occur.

Hmm, forgot about Seven Psychopaths. Have to check that one out when it releases on DVD, not the least of which because Olga Kurylenko is in it :D. Also, did you forget to fill in 7-10?

Yes 7-10 aren't filled in because I've yet to see some films that could make the list. Once I do see them, I'll update it. It'll be finished next Monday..

(Update)

The Bourne Legacy**

Saw The Bourne Legacy last night. Easily the worst of the 4 Bourne films. The entire first half of the film basically retells the story of Ultimatum and the damn thing jumps around so much it is nearly impossible to follow. The whole thing just made no sense.

Also, my top 10 for 2012:

1. Skyfall

2. Argo

3. Moonrise Kingdom

4. 21 Jump Street

5. The Avengers

6. Wreck-It-Ralph

7. The Hunger Games

8. Men In Black 3

9. Brave

10. Safehouse

....at least of the films I've seen.

What Bourne Legacy is the worst? I loved it so much! :) I am biased though, <3 Jeremy Renner.. :)

and 21 Jump Street is absolutely hilarious. I have it at my dorm room in college and whenever I need a good laugh, I watch it.

Looper - Absolutely amazing! My favorite film of the year. There is nothing that was remotely terrible about it.

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey

I'm a fan of the franchise although the only book I've read was 'The Hobbit' I enjoyed the films and I even went to one of the midnight showings of the Lord Of The Rings.

Its great to see Martin Freeman as Bilbo Baggins, I think he does a great job and I'm happy for his success. The dwarfs I thought were interesting swash bucking characters while I was also glad to see the return of the previous cast members. As always the music is moving and compelling as is the story. The settings are beautiful and imaginative, while the action was well done, exciting and it caught me off guard at times. Of course now and days with most block buster films the CGI is first class and I have nothing to complain about it. I like that they don't show the dragon for the most part and leave it to the imagination, it really builds up the suspense: I didn't even think they had to show it at all at the end, would have been fine with me if it just ended on the sight of the mountain. What is wonderful about these films is that we only have to wait a year for the sequel and as for the choice to make this into a trilogy, I'm cool with it and not worried at all that they'll run out of story to tell. What can I say I was a fan of the extended trilogy.

I wasn't thrilled by this film at all, I enjoyed some of it but felt like I was waiting for it to be over. I don't think I want to have to see this film again.

Zero Dark Thirty - 5/5

I'm going to be adding this to my Top Ten 2012 list and most likely my 2013 list.

Ten Years. Two Wars. One Target. Osama Bin Laden.

What a phenomenal film this was. I will say, the wait was worth it. This film is better than 'The Hurt Locker' by a leap year, and it's very powerful. I was amazed at how they were able to cover a whole decade long operation dedicated solely to finding and killing Bin Laden in a 2 hour and 40 minute film. The last 30-45 minutes of the film is easily the best as it's the SEAL Team 6 raid on Bin Laden's compound in Pakistan and from what I've read in books, seen on television, it's 100% accurate. The raid was shot so well too. I really like how we were able to see through some of the SEALs Night Vision POV during this sequence. Very well done.

The whole controversy of the film being pro-torture is despicable. I refuse to share my political views and other governmental views, however when you're interrogating someone who may have information that can lead to the most wanted man alive and torture is the only option, the "No Torture Allowed!" rule just went out the window. It's unfortunate that torture does exist, but in some cases it's the only thing that can work and lead to more information.

Every actor/actress really brought it and shined in the film. For me, Jason Clarke stole the show with his performance and should be nominated for Best Supporting Actor at the Academy Awards. Mark Strong's first scene is fantastic and gripping. Jessica Chastain's character is great, but I just felt she fell flat of capturing it (if that makes sense lol). I really wish they were able to keep their first initial choice, Rooney Mara, because I think she would have done a great job.

I was also surprised at how well Alexandre Desplat's score was. I'll be honest, I hate his scores. I find them generic, boring, and repetitive. I was kind of hesitant and upset he was chosen to score the film. I feel someone like Harry Gregson-Williams or Marco Beltrami would have been a better choice. After listening to some of his score and hearing it in the film, I'm blown away with his score for the film. The score playing on the Stealth Chopper ride to the compound is so hauntingly tense it's brilliant. I would love to see him nominated for Best Original Score at the Academy Awards.

All in all, It was interesting to see a new and fresh war/political/action thriller film that doesn't just take place on the front lines of a battlefield. This film will be remembered and won't be forgotten any time soon.

2012 Top Ten List

1.) Zero Dark Thirty
2.) Looper
3.) Skyfall
4.) Jack Reacher
5.) Seven Psychopaths
6.) Dredd
7.) The Grey
8.) Savages
9.)
10.)

An updated Top 10 after viewing Zero Dark Thirty. I'm considering it to be a 2012 film as, despite the fact it had its wide opening today, it had its premiere and limited release in December.

1. Skyfall*****

2. Argo*****

3. Moonrise Kingdom****1/2

4. 21 Jump Street****1/2

5. Zero Dark Thirty****1/4

6. The Avengers****

7. Wreck-It-Ralph****

8. The Hunger Games****

9. Men In Black 3***1/2

10. Brave***1/2

I would rank Zero Dark Thirty as the 3rd best spy movie of 2012, after Skyfall and Argo. I thought the film was overall very good and acted well. The first hour isn't that great and Jessica Chastain really gets going in the 2nd half of the film. I agree that the last 30-45 minutes are the best and the tension is great, although it comes nowhere near the tension you feel watching Argo's final act. The other gripe I have with the film is that it is long and it feels long. At 2 hours 37 minutes it clocks in at 14 minutes longer than Skyfall and The Avengers although neither feel anywhere near as long. Even TDKR, which has a run time 8 minutes longer than ZDT, feels shorter. Having said that, Kathryn Bigelow does a fantastic job and the cinematography is excellent. I love the track played with the SEALs are on the Helos heading to Bin Laden's compound. It really adds to the tension. If only the first hour didn't drag so much and the film didn't feel so long, I think it could have been even better.

So (and I know x007AceofSpades is going to hate me for it) my vote will go for Argo for Best Picture over Zero Dark Thirty.

Haha, i was kidding anyway ;). Overall, I did like the film I just thought it was too long. But definitely see Argo when you can, that film is great and I'm serious the final act of Argo is insane.

It is, I think Ben Affleck not getting a nod for Best Director is a crime. Almost like Mendes not getting one and Skyfall not getting nominated for Best Pic. It takes a few liberties with the actual story to make for a better film, but they work very well. Trust me, you won't be disappointed. Also, after seeing ZDT, it reaffirmed by belief that Kathryn Bigelow would do very well with a Bond film.
