My gut instinct is that the scene is towards the end of the movie, but clearly that could be very wrong.

Anyway, given the location, the one thing that we can deduce is that we should get a great shot from the top of the DECC along Whitehall towards the Houses of Parliament (assuming that the scene isn't cut...)

What a coincidence – I’ve just posted something about the view of The Houses of Parliament from up there, in response to your post in the other thread.

Ha! At least we're pooling our shared knowledge of central London's geography. Very much agree on that picture you posted being the end of the scene, with Bond and Eve staring wistfully into the distance. That shot was what initially tweaked my thinking about Parliament being in that direction.

Craig is nothing compared to the original Strine sugarbowl. He could pick up Radio Adelaide on those things.

What about Brozza? The man may be a pretty boy, but why do you think he had the long hair over his ears in the first place. Take a look at the size of his antennas.

I guess Bond has big ears :D

This rejected poster for LALD seems alright to me...

What's the significance of Temple Station? Is it different (aside from geographically) from the station they are currently shooting at? Odd that they'd choose to double the locale here.

I live just outside London. Charing Cross station has better architecture on the outside (not sure about inside however). This may be the reason they are shooting at Charing Cross. But unsure why they are re-naming the station. Possibly because Temple is closer to the river Thames and they want to use that in the film/scene?

They're filming at Charing Cross - which is only about a kilometre away from Temple, though they're not on the same line. So it probably has something to do with obtaining filming permissions, or maybe the location scouts liked the architecture of Charing Cross more than Temple. Or even just for convenience; they could dressing up one side of the station as Temple and the other as Charing Cross. We know that Craig was filming outside the National Gallery. The entrance to Charing Cross station is on the other side of Trafalgar Square. It could simply be a case of Bond leaving the National Gallery, crossing Trafalgar Square and entering Charing Cross before getting off the train at "Temple". To save time and cause a minimum of fuss, filming for both Charing Cross and Temple could be done in the one station, since they're not wildly different.

That's bizarre. Lot of location doubling taking place it seems, more so than we got on Quantum. Hopefully it isn't too jarring.

Hopefully it isn't too jarring.

It probably won't even be noticeable except to those intimately familiar with the London Underground. Even then, Charing Cross is on a north-south line and Temple is on an east-west, so despite their physical proximity, they don't actually go anywhere one another; you need to switch lines. People who ride the Underground through Charing Cross or Temple every day may not even notice the difference.

Alright, I've never been to London so I wouldn't notice anyway, I was just curious.

They are filming in the Charing Cross Tube Station because of the sections that were once used for the Jubilee Line, they are now closed to the public but still maintained. So unlike other closed sections of the Tube, they look like a modern station and platform. They can be used with little to no disruption. The bits that you can see being set-dressed in the photos, lead to the closed Jubilee Line section of the station.

So, #134. We know that the early London scenes are roughly #60, and the scene on top of the DECC is #172. So, it looks like we're going to get two extended London sequences.

Don't see why it has to be two. Scene #172 could easily still be in the first act.

Then it's going to be a bloody long film - I believe that during shooting of CASINO ROYALE, scene #170-ish was set in the gardens during Bond's rehabilitation, some time around the infamous "my little finger" exchange.

And before anyobody asks where I got that from, I got it from around these parts.

It's feeling like a LOT of London - but I guess we're actually not even 10% into the shoot.

Not necessarily. According to doublenoughtspy, the shooting script of FOR YOUR EYES ONLY had 794, the third draft of GOLDENEYE had 471, while THE SPY WHO LOVED ME HAD had 586. It varies hugely from film to film, and rarely correlates with the length of the final cut.

And they're shooting things out of sequence.

Assuming that the scene numbers are representative of the length of the film, I'm guessing that Bond will visit London twice. Between the box exchange with Eve on the roof of the DECC, and now a narrow industrial avenue in the middle of the night (apparently the scene of a car chase), I'm guessing that London will be dangerous for Bond the second time he visits.

What do you mean by London is not safe..I guess because of the attack on the city?

What do you mean by London is not safe.

I mean that we could have a situation arise where Bond is being pursued by his enemies on his home turf. London and England have always been a place of sanctuary for Bond - he has always been safe in the place he calls home. But that could change, with Bond being hunted through London for whatever reason. My theory as to the box is that it is an "insurance policy"; it contains something that would be very damaging to somebody if it was ever released. Possibly related to their involvement in "Skyfall", which I suspect is an off-the-books MI6 operation that was covered up. If this is the case, then whoever Bond has dirt on will likely to everything in their power to stop the contents of that box from being released, and so Bond would have to treat London the way he would any other city where the villains have a presence.

Any theories on what happened to the scenes originally planned for India/South Africa? Shunted off to Scotland for the usual location doubling? Replaced with China? Dropped entirely?

The theory that I like best was the one posited by univex, Shrublands or Pussfeller (I can't remember who): that EON knew both the Chinese and the Indians could be difficult to deal with, so they entered negotiations with both countries at the same time, with the intention of selecting only one, and China won out. Probably because the Indians made too many demands. The only reason we got so much detail on the stuff planned for India is because every Indian government official had something to say about it, and the Chinese were very quiet (I don't think there was any serious talk of shooting in China until the press junket a month ago). Although the South Africans talked up the idea of doubling for India, the scenes planned for India would instead be set in China, so there was never any option of going to Africa.

Of course, all of this is unconfirmed.
