So, it appears that the sequence filmed is Bond emerging from Westminster tube station as emergency services rush to get into the station, and then running up Whitehall in the direction of Trafalgar Square and the Ministry of Defence, presumably chasing Silva.

Interesting that the sequence appears to take in four stations along the District line - Temple, Embankment, Charing Cross and Westminster. It must be quite complex, with Bond and Silva jumping on and off trains.

Considering that in the sequence:
-commuters are being evacuated from the subway , http://www.castingca....php?uid=328662
-pyrotechnics and the Skyfall cast and crew were spotted in the subway on Tuesday 28 February
-Bond's suit is covered with dust after he emerges from the subway
-there are several ambulances and policeman alerted in the scenes that were filmed yesterday
it is reasonable to suppose that there will be some sort of explosion in the subway while Bond is chasing Silva.

I just love the fact Bond is tearing up London! It's great to have so much focus on home soil. Can't wait to see this pan out on the big screen!

I think so too, There is concern voiced elsewhere that there is too much shooting in London, but all the locales are sufficiently governmental and important for it to take on an edgey seriousness.

Superb.

It's also great because I was under the impression London was notoriously hard to get permission to film in... maybe the red tape has been relaxed for Bond. So many films have used, say, New York as a canvas, will be great to see London on the big screen, and especially as the backdrop for some large scale Bond action! I mean I still get a little thrill from seeing Waterloo station in The Bourne Ultimatum! :)

I think it's easier nowadays. I know back when GoldenEye was being filmed they were refused permission to shoot a scene showing Bond entering the SIS building. But they were allowed to film outside there by the time TWINE came along.

I saw some Skyfall crew members actually standing on the terrace of the SIS building a few weeks back setting up!

I don't think the filming at Hankley Common will last two weeks. I'm expecting Mendes and Craig to possibly head out to Turkey at the weekend.

What makes you think the exterior Skyfall lodge sequences won't take up 2 weeks of Craig's and Mendes' time?

The scenes make up the dramatic climax of the film, and we know that involves some big action stuff - aerial (copter), stunt work and SFX work (explosions, fire, gun fire etc.) - all of which takes a lot of time to prepare and film.

I suspect the main unit are getting the key scenes done at Hankley, while 2nd unit continue in Turkey (with some key cast members). The main unit will then pick up the lead action and drama scenes in Turkey, toward the end of this month. It's very possible a smaller VFX unit will continue to pick-up SFX shots and VFX background plates at Skyfall lodge while the rest of the main and 2nd Unit crews work in Turkey.

I would expect that by the end of April, early May, the main unit will return to Pinewood to complete interior studio scenes. And they will wrap at the end of May.

I expect the action stuff will take quite a while, but I'd doubt that Craig would be required for all of that. They'd only need to do close-ups of him, maybe a running shot or two- the rest would be doubles I'm sure and they'd do all of Craig's stuff in a few days, probably.

..or indeed face replacement.

Craig wasn't in any of the car chase shots for QoS.

Close ups are rarely shot before a scene or sequence is fully blocked out and, therefore, shot wider to start with, before moving in closer and closer for the action to match the blocking of the scenes. So, at the Skyfall Lodge they need to block and shoot the wider, bigger action before shooting the closer shots; so Craig may indeed be required for most of the shooting period at Skyfall lodge before heading off to Turkey.

In Turkey, the 2nd Unit can be blocking and shooing the wider action, using stunt doubles etc. and then Craig can join them for the closer detail shots.

That seems to be what is happening.

The Department of Energy and Climate Change is MI5 in the new Bond film.

The view from the top of the Department of Energy and Climate Change, with its panoramic sweep of London, must rank amongst the best that government departments can offer. So it’s not surprising that Ed Davey, the new Secretary of State for Energy and Climate Change, is eager to lead the way upstairs for a photo shoot.

He’s not the only one who’s impressed: a DECC staffer reveals that the department recently doubled up as MI5 for the latest James Bond movie, with Daniel Craig leaping his way around the roof for the cameras. Davey raises a quizzical eyebrow at the revelation, before adding an intriguing one of his own.

“I once had an interview to join MI6”, he announces, to the surprise of everyone in earshot. Davey pauses, wonders briefly whether he is danger of breaking any state secrets, then shrugs: “I don’t think I’ll get into any trouble now”. Davey was a student when a letter inviting him to a – secret – London location arrived to discuss a vague-sounding Foreign Office role. He went for an interview, but a career as a real-life James Bond wasn’t to be.

“I didn’t go forward to the next stage. After the general chat about it, I decided that the key thing if you go into that profession is you can’t tell people about it. Your whole life is a bit of a mystery, even from some of your closest friends and family, for obvious reasons. I just felt I didn’t want to live like that. I was really getting into politics, and I thought… no, politics is for me. It wasn’t a rejection of MI6, it was more, sort of, excitement about political options. The reason I didn’t go for it was because I was into politics.”

...

Totally forgot about the rooftop sequence! Pretty sure it was reported a while ago that Daniel Craig was filming at offices in London leaping off the roof.

The real news here is that the DECC will double as the MI5 headquarters in the upcoming Bond movie.
