The good news is all those other movies are summer blockbusters. The producers would have been insane to release Bond in the summer as some other crazy fans here were hoping for but yes, 2012 is going to be an amazing year!

I just pray to God that the script for this movie is a real engaging spy thriller.

Superman's going to be a Winter release. Although as much as I'd like the Man of Steel to make a triumphant return, I'd say his box office performance will be decent at best. It'll likely out-perform Superman Returns and guarantee a sequel, but I don't see it being a record-breaking extravaganza; just as Batman Begins (a terrific reboot that came out some years after an outing with mixed reviews) wasn't.

The first time Bond will be going up against Superman since The Living Daylights came out the same Summer as the tragically terrible Superman IV.

Well the marketing for the new supes movie will no doubt highlight the fact that Nolan is producing the movie and of course snyder is directing, so you know there's going to be something serious and different from the usual lex is the villain crap.

So what do you think John Logan and Sam Mendes will bring to bond 23?

Hopefully the magic and atmosphere of the early 60s Bond movies.

I hope they finally get rid of the "Albert R. Broccoli's EON Productions" credit, since he's been dead now for over a decade.

I don't think that will ever happen (fortunately IMO).

I'm still waiting on Warner Bros. to change their name back to Seventh Avenue Nickelodeon & Tobacconist. Come on, the Warners have been dead for years!!!

And why is it Metro-GOLDWYN-MAYER, when Goldwyn wasn't even involved with MGM (his company got merged into MGM but he was forced out; his company's main contribution was the Lion logo) and Louis B. Mayer died a long time ago. :-)

So do you think they'll start filming this year or wait till January 2012? I'm hoping they start earlier for this film and give themselves more time for post production. I'm most curious to see how the budget, marketing, and distribution it going to be handled now that MGM is under new management. I wouldn't be surprised if there was a tighter budget, something I would greatly approve. I loved Quantum of Solace but it didn't need to cost 200 million. Hopefully they'll reign in the spending to maximize profitability.

I woke up this morning and saw an angel. He leaned at me and said "I bring good news this day." I looked at him with astonishment. He then said, "He shall come again." Then I knew...James Bond would return on this day.

(Side note: Would have loved to see a summer release but I do like the November slots I guess.)

Great, now we can stop making threads speculating when the next BOND will come out. All along THEY wanted to release it in time for the 50th anniversary, right? Anyways, I'm happy for all.

So the screenwriter of Gladiator, The Last Samurai, The Aviator, and Hugo Cabret is probably brought on to add depth and structure to what ever plot Purvis & Wade have concocted. This guy has worked with Scorsese, is Oscar nominated, and has a past with Mendes. I sure am conflicted, I want to believe, but I sure smell more Quantum than Royale.

Keep in mind EON took a risk with CR and it payed off. Sine CR paid off, they wanted to take more of a risk with QoS and do something different and although it did well at the box office, the critical and viewer response was they went too far different. I'm sure EON knows this and will try to keep Bond 23 a bit more traditional while still offering something new.

I hope so. I think it's time to go back to a traditional Bond and forget the reboot thing. I'd like to see some gadgets too, a few at least. And I'd like to see Moneypenny at least, maybe Q, too. I'd like a film in the style of FRWL and OHMSS.

John Logan's name is interesting...as far as I can tell, nobody had any clue he was involved.

It's funny...he's done some prestige stuff...Last Samurai, Sweeney Todd, The Aviator, Gladiator, Coriolanus, Hugo Cabret...

He's also done Star Trek Nemesis, which was almost unwatchably bad, and the 2002 remake of The Time Machine, which was one of the most misbegotten versions of the classic tale I've ever seen.

Oh well, even Hitchcock had his off days. Let's hope for the best.

At least with Star Trek we could say that the script was not the BIGGEST problem that movie had :|

True I was completly shocked I had assumed there would be a third writer but as for who I had no idea.

The press release says Bond 23 will go into production late this year, not specified beyond that.

I'm afraid of John Logan, the last time he did a big franchaise film, it resulted in Star Trek: Nemesis, but that film also had a horrible choice of director and a production/ studio that felt they could do anything with the Star Trek name and make the fans happy/ money. Luckily on Bond, we have a good director in Sam Mendes, and the producers feel are ones who (at least lately) feel they have no built in audience to guarantee a hit, so they need to do the best job possible. Also, Logan's work with more top notch directors like Martin Scorsese and Ridley Scott has been good, if not great (heck Sweeney Todd is only one of two Tim Burton films from the past 14 years that I find watchable). Only wish they had gone with Jonathan Nolan instead though, maybe on the next one we can get both Nolans on the film.

But as for the November 9, 2012 date, it sounds great, although they're in the weekend between Monsters, Inc. 2 and Twilight. Think they should have gone for October 5, 2012 - 50 years to the day of Dr. No, and had a better chance at the box office.

I've never been able to watch Nemesis all the way through. It is hideous. Interesting, since CR editor Stuart Baird directed it.

Chance of what? QOS had no problem making money opposite Twilight, DAD did fine against Harry Potter, and so on. Releasing a huge blockbuster PG13 film in October when kids are in school makes no sense.
