I don't care who sings it, as long as its NOT Jack White and Alicia Keys.

Alicia Keys was fine. It was Jack White that ruined it. Listen to Alicia Keys sing the whole song by herself. It's way better.

Twitter has been a-buzz this afternoon with rumours that HMV stores in the UK were heard playing Adele's Skyfall track. One user likened it to A-Ha's The Living Daylights: "Very cool, understated, meloncholic".

Naturally, these rumours were found out to be utter rubbish , after a few phone calls were made to the stores in question.

I think this is a clear sign, Sony/EON, that we want a bloody announcement NOW, as to who is singing the bleddy title song!

AGREED!! EON/Sony need to let the world know sooner rather than later as these false Tweets and rumors are just gonna get more and more out of hand...(actually, I would LOVE Adele's song to have the same vibe and feel which A-ha's The Living Daylights had..)

Of course, having false information and rumors proliferate has zero downside for Eon and the studio--it just helps further ramp up interest. So they don't have much motivation to change their announcement schedule on that account.

I've had quite the discussion via Twitter with the purported source of the 'HMV' playing. Seems like a reputable guy, accomplished TV director. Claims:

- Song contains the word 'sky' and 'fall', but not together as he recalls.
- Living Daylights is a comparable. Song is more electronic and melancholic.
- Not "gimmicky" or big and brassy. More "grown up."
- It wasn't announced as the Skyfall theme, or anything. He's just assuming it was, because it was unmistakably Adele, a new song he hasn't heard, and sounded pretty Bond-y.

Make of it what you will. If it's a hoax, it's an odd and very, very specific one.

Yeah, it's a Doctor Who director, Steve Hughes: https://twitter.com/moviegoblin

I've been in that HMV quite a few times, and I might be wrong but I don't actually recall them playing music over the shop speakers. HMV's response sounds believable:

http://www.capitalfm...-hmv-guildford/

The only thing we can think of that could feasibly have happened, though none of our staff heard it played - so it sounds very unlikely - is that a member of the public came in and, using their digital device, played a snippet of the song on one of the store's speaker docks, which we stock and the public are free to use/test.

So some sort of show-off came in, basically.

Yes it's different, because it's Live and not a studio version, but the song itself as a duet was a bad choice. It should have been just a solo performance on her part. Even though White wrote it.

No, I don't think so. I always prefer White's more soulful vocals; he has personality. Nothing wrong with Keys but she's so polished and professional as to be a bit invisible. One of the few Bond song performers I couldn't name another song by, although I know I've heard them- they're just so bland and unmemorable.
Ask me if I've heard another Rita Coolidge song at all though and I'd be uncertain! :)

I prefer it as an instrumental, but it's not bad as a solo performance. I like it. A studio version of it would be nice, but that's asking for too much isn't it?

The HMV customer/TV director is no hoax. He is a close friend of mine. He texted me as soon as he heard it,

I've ran the story on my website too - http://www.filmnav.c... ... hmv-today/

He said it sounded very good, along the lines of LALD or TLD.

The thing is, he is a massive movie soundtrack geek, so really knows his stuff. He collects CD soundtracks as a hobby, so I wouldn't take his comments lightly, or with a pinch of salt.

He is adamant it was the new Bond song he heard. He even checked Adele's track listings of all her songs afterwards to make sure there are no songs with the words Sky of Fall in them.

I'm guessing someone at HMV had a bootleg version from Abbey Road, played a sample in the Guildford shop, and now HMV are sh!tting themsleves.....

Alright, if it really does sound "along the lines of LALD and TLD," then I think it's safe to say that this will be a very good title song.

And, in my opinion, with Adele singing it, you can't go wrong.

I disagree, the lyrics may be crap but White's guitar is what saves the song IMO - I think they'd have been better ditching Keys and getting White to do a different solo song built around the same riff - something a bit more 'macho rock' along the lines of YKMN.

I'm kind of ambivalent about the whole 'feem tune' thing, it's not a big deal for me - there have been maybe half-a-dozen decent songs since the series began and a lot of dross; finding something that's 'Bondian' but contemporary is one problem and while Adele may be a good choice tonally and commercially, it's the song-writing that's sunk most efforts IMO, not the choice of recording artist.

IMO, Keys is wrong for the song as well. But having both sing so high really did not work. Even the solo live version does not solve that problem. And the melody is kind of a stop-and-go. Definitely not a high point for the series, especially after the brilliant YKMN.

Ah, good. Because the last one was *supposed* to sound like LALD, and it sounded like LALD being beaten to death with a blunt, out of tune stick while some woman has a window-shattering orgasm in the background.

Really liking the Adele choice (if true) but such a shame since I just heard the Muse album and the opening track, Supremacy, would DEFINITELY fit a Craig film; twangy guitars, orchestra and all. Some of the orchestral bits during the first verse even sound similar to bits and pieces of the Bond theme, it's a great opening track.

The lyrics are as follows:

Wake to see
Your true emancipation is a fantasy.

Policies
Have risen up and overcome the brave.

Greatness dies,
And some are lost invisible to history.

And then it's spies
Brainwashing our children to be mean.

You don't have long, I am on to you.
The time, it has come to destroy
Your supremacy

You don't have long, I am on to you.
The time, it has come to destroy
Your supremacy

Having a listen now; not loving it as much as usual Muse. A bit too camp for even a Bond film! But it is a bit cheeky for containing the Bond theme vamp in a few places! :)

'Live and Let Die' voted UK's favourite James Bond theme

Congratulations to Paul McCartney, whom so many think created a good bond theme. Luckily I won't let BBC listeners tell me what is good or not. My main objection is that the song - or whatever we should call the mess - sounds like a suitably theme for Biff Tannen, rather than James Bond or the movie LALD. Try to imagine the Lovin' Spoonful singing over a Star Wars opening and you are almost there.
