I hope this does indeed mean that the theme song is linked to the score.

That would be excellent. Casino Royale featured YKMN in a few places, but I would've liked it more prominently. Like say, when Bond was running on the Miami International tarmac.

For the Skyfall song I'm hoping for soaring vocals and a memorable melody in the vein of Bassey. When I saw QoS, Another Way to Die went down like a lead balloon.

This has been the worst kept secret during the entire production. Her hints on the Jonathan Ross show, Daniel Craig himself joking about it, her appearances at Abbey Road....they might as well announce it now and get it over with. I can picture it already....

Title song SKYFALL
performed by
ADELE
Composed by Thomas Newman

I was 100% convinced of this until it was announced Muse would be performing on SNL with Daniel Craig. Now I'm about 50-50 for Muse or Adele.

I think Muse is just promoting their upcoming single/album. Probably just coincidence, although I do think Muse is better suited to the Craig era than Adele. I realize the big brass and massive vocals are part of the Bond sound, but I found it got a little borng ing. As bad as AWTD was, I admire them for shaking it up, and I hope they continue to do so.

Global James Bond Day would make sense for EON to reveal, if not before. If they don't do it then, I give up hope!

And I hope we have a song called 'Skyfall' to link with the film and it's a good enough romp to use well in the score as all great Bond scores do which adds to the excitement.

Maybe they want to actually unveil the performer and the song itself at the same time this time? Maybe even with a live performance? I know this Bond tour of the country is to promote the Blu Ray set but they could tie it in in some way.

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences are hosting the ‘Music of Bond Night’ in Los Angeles on Global James Bond Day. I suspect they might premiere the new title song at this event. If it is Adele, I’d think they will screen the music video.

Perhaps we’ll get a press-release with the details before then.

I’ve done a bit of investigating on Twitter and come up with the following, it’s inconclusive but interesting, I think…

We know via music editor Tony Lewis on Twitter that they started recording the Skyfall score at Abbey Road on August 28th -

On August the 29th Paul Epworth Tweeted - “Off to record a little bit of history.”

To which ACA Music Management replied - “Good luck Eppers, we'll be keeping an eye out for this ‪#abbeyroadmeets

So, it seems that Paul Epworth was off to Abbey Road to record a ‘bit of history’ at the same time that the Skyfall soundtrack was being recorded at that very studio and ACA were interested.
Another person showing interest was David Arnold who tweeted – “how much history are you going to end up recording?”

Now ACA handle a lot of artists but one of them is Adele.
http://artists.acamu...majorView/Adele
And it has long been rumoured that Paul Epworth is working on the Skyfall song with her.

Did they mean to record a little bit of (new) history, adding to the Bond canon?

Or did they (and Arnold) refer to the recording of a historic Bond score bit?

Is this "just" about recording a new version of the James Bond theme?

Or is this particular bit of history a re-recording of an previous Bond theme song? Are they remaking "Nobody does it better"? Or "We have all the time in the world", sung by Adele?

"Nobody does it better" would be perfect for the closing credits.
But for the opening you need a new song.

I think they mean new, as in a new Bond song inevitably enters the rather noteworthy history of the whole thing.

August the 29th sounds quite late, doesn't it? They were shooting the title sequence before that weren't they? Not that they couldn't do that to a temp track I'm sure.

I'm sure you're right, though. Although Adele would be quite heavily pregnant if it was only a couple of weeks ago.

But if the SUN is right, her song would be for the closing credits, NOT the opening sequence.
And for that you need not to have the song earlier.

Roger Friedman (Show Biz contributor for Forbes) says he thinks he can now confirm that it’s Adele. He first wrote about having inside info on this on May 21st on Forbes.com

He also now adds that “As far as I know the song is called SKYFALL.”
Which is new news and welcome, in my opinion.

Confirmed: Adele All Set for James Bond “Skyfall” Song

Exclusive: I think I can confirm for you what I said some months ago–Adele is performing the theme song for “Skyfall,” the 23rd James Bond movie. As far as I know the song is called “Skyfall.” I think if anyone else had sung the theme song this year it wouldn’t have made sense. Adele’s sound is the quintessential James Bond sound. She joins Shirley Bassey, Paul McCartney, Carly Simon, Rita Coolidge, John Barry, Duran Duran and others on the long list of pop stars who’ve immortalized James Bond in song.
“Skyfall” will be Adele’s first new single since her album “21″ sold 7 billion copies in 13 different galaxies. The movie opens in London the last week of October, right when Adele will give birth to a baby, as well. The good news is, this should be an actual song with a melody and a hook, unlike recent tortures. More to come on this breaking news…
(PS I broke this news originally around May 21st on Forbes.com. The story has since been purged because Forbes only paid for one time use. And they still owe me money! But you can find the original reference just by Googling around.) Here’s one link that credited my Forbes story:

He gets lots of scoops and is reliable. I wouldn’t think he’d risk damaging his reputation with something like this if he wasn’t very confident in his source.

I think they just slipped up with their wording there.

Without quoting a source I wonder why he reported it the first time if he couldn't 'confirm' it?

The first time (back in May) he said that she was working on a song for Skyfall – but it had not yet been selected and confirmed as definitely going to be used.
Now he says he can confirm it.

Man I really hope it's Adele! I have loved her voice even before her new found popularity. She is the perfect choice! Big voice, a throwback to the sixties. For the ones on here that for some reason do not know of her (even though she is a multi Grammy award winning artist) check out the following songs on a YouTube search etc. Rolling in the Deep, Rumor has it, Someone Like You, Right as Rain and Hometown Glory. The fact that she's British and it's the 50th anniversary and she is arguably one of the biggest artists out there right now especially at the height of her popularity would be a great coup for Eon to nail her down for the theme.

Almost EVERYWHERE on Twitter is now saying Adele has been 'confirmed' to sing the Skyfall theme. I noticed yesterday it was just 'rumoured' that she was going to do it, now it's 'confirmed'.

Well we were expecting it weren't we. Though i expect one of you bright-sparks to spout the ol' "i won't believe it till its officially confirmed by EON/Sony" blah blah Zzzzzzzz

Although it is very, very, very likely that she does it (or has done it) - all this "confirming" is merely repeating the rumors flying around. Nobody has officially confirmed it yet. But, hey, who cares? If the internet says it is so...
