In reference to some of the previous posts in this thread, I find it alarming that some individuals have suggested The Arctic Monkeys and/or Alex Turner.

I mean seriously? Their overall general appeal ceased about five years ago. They are simply far, far too bad to even be considered.

They haven't ceased to appeal, no.
Of all the terrible suggestions in this thread it seems weird to single this one out over Celine Dion, for example. Go and listen to some Last of the Shadow Puppets.

No, I said "Their overall general appeal", they were incredibly popular for approximately 15 minutes (like so many others), but they only have a hardcore following now.

I however agree that Celion Dion isn't a good choice, all though at least not as bad.

The Last Shadow Puppets? Oh dear....

I think people are just throwing out whatever music they happen to enjoy personally. I mean, Celine Dion? Seriously? Celine Dion ain't going in a Bond film. Neither is Skrillex or Conway Twitty or Les Fatals Picards. Let's keep this stuff plausible.

Then what about any of these singers or group I have listed a few times over the years on this topic.

Mariah Carey
The Cranberries
Andrea Bocelli (a good singer don't know would it work with him)
Vanessa Williams
Phil Collins

The Who
The Rolling Stones
Bon Jovi
Evanescene
Robert Duncan

Chris Isaak
Harry Connick, Jr.
Sting
Eric Clapton
Gloria Estefan

What do you all think about any of them and so on. Also would it at all with any of them.

Yeah i saw this on there just now as well. I honestly the only two names on the list i even care for to do the bond theme is Muse and maybe just maybe foo fighters. the rest of the list is an a joke. I mean really Rihanna, Artic Monkeys, and Beyonce....enough said.

P.s no offence to fans of adele wanting her to do a theme. i know alot of people want her to do one. I'm not one of them tho.

Not a big surprise for me really. Muse have one of the largest and most proactive fanbases on the internet. Their fans really go to town on any poll that Muse are in and boost their numbers hugely.

I would not Rihanna, Beyonce and also DON'T want Sean Combs, Jay Z, Kanye West, Tommy Lee, Celo Green, Jennifer Hudson, Chris Brown and Fantasia ever doing any Bond theme songs.

What about Josh Groban, Diana Krall and Sarah Brightman, could they ever do a Bond movie title song.

I don´t get why so many journalists don´t like "You know my name". It´s one of the best Bond songs ever.

Nah, it's watered down pop-grunge, and fairly forgettable in the canon of Bond songs. The film needed something edgier.

That's not true, though. They're still on the radio, had a number one album last year; just as all of their previous albums went to number one.

I however agree that Celion Dion isn't a good choice, all though at least not as bad.

Oh, You're one of those.

I think the version of "You Know My Name" that was released as a single, but not used in the film, is much better than the one EON decided to use in the film. It's a good song, but the arrangement in the film, at least on the sound systems I've used to experience the movie, the music seems to drown out Cornell's vocals considerably.

I like the sound of the song and the way that it flows, but the lyrics I think need some work. I've always found the constant use of the word "you" in the chorus (it ends each line of the chorus except for the last one) makes it feel a bit awkward. I remember being pretty high on the song when CR was released, but I'm not sure it really stands up with the best songs in the franchise now. It's miles better than "Another Way to Die", though.

It's a nice tune, but I agree: it isn't really part of a musical genre. 'Another Way To die' feels more like 'real' music to me, if you know what I mean. It's not an amazing song, but it has a bit more of a genuine feel to it.

YKMN is 'Bond does rock'. AWTD is 'Rock does Bond'.

Damn right it is, sung with such passion too.

I always get chills at the end of the title sequence as Bond walks towards the camera with pound notes exploding in the air around him, his gun raised, with Cornell belting the song out.

That's the David Arnold syndrome. Lack of musical imagination, with every Bond song he's written feeling like a recycling of past Bond songs. Bond will eat itself. Even the best song he's ever written - "Surrender"- is essentially Thunderball 2.0.

I don't mind Chris Cornell, but if they had to go with an American grunge/psychedelic/desert rock vibe, a more interesting choice would have been Josh Homme.

I think YKMN is Arnold doing his most original-sounding Bond song, and it's much the stronger for it. Surrender and TWINE were Bond pastiches, really.

It might be more original, but KD Lang's performance and the harmonic structure on Surrender's much more powerful and compelling.

It's a good tune, and very well sung indeed, but I'm glad the producers went with Sheryl Crow's one: of the two I'd always go for freshness and originality.

The Crow tune is far from fresh. It's baby boomer nostalgia at its worst. Cimbalom from Barry's IPCRESS FILE, piano and 12/8 groove from the theme for PERRY MASON, chord progression from the theme for CALLAN - all cobbled together with a lousy vocal performance on top.

Yeah whatever: everything's crap and you look clever and big for saying so, I know.

But the thing is, put all of those together and you have a fresh eye on Bond. It doesn't feel like just-another-Bond-song, which Surrender and TWINE (even moreso) do. It's not a pastiche. Not the strongest song in the world, but at least something fresh for Bond, and yet still in the realm of the Bond sound.

I'd say that I'd prefer an instrumental track rather than a mediocre mainstream Bond-ish title song. I mean look at OHMSS, What a great piece of music! It also sets the mood for the whole film it doesn't just fade after those 3 minutes.

In fact, they missed a trick not getting him for the last one.
