Make of this what you will...

The world famous trumpet player Derek Watkins, who has just finished recording the theme tune for ‘Skyfall', the new James Bond movie, will be one of the judges during the competition.

http://www.aboutmyar...ian-of-the-Year

Now it might be interesting to note that Paul Epworth, the producer who worked with Adele on her 21 album and is rumoured to be collaborating with her on the Skyfall song, has used Derek Watkins’s trumpet playing skills before – on Bloc Party’s Intimacy album.

EDIT; perhaps that connection is not so important after all – apparently he has played trumpet on 21 Bond films.

How about a haunting Bond theme? Something slow, and that lingers... that's be neat to see, and it would fit the theme of the story (relics of Cold War, M's past, Bond's past)

They haven't ceased to appeal, no.
Of all the terrible suggestions in this thread it seems weird to single this one out over Celine Dion, for example. Go and listen to some Last of the Shadow Puppets.

No, I said "Their overall general appeal", they were incredibly popular for approximately 15 minutes (like so many others), but they only have a hardcore following now.

That's not true, though. They're still on the radio, had a number one album last year; just as all of their previous albums went to number one.

I however agree that Celion Dion isn't a good choice, all though at least not as bad.

Oh, You're one of those.

The Last Shadow Puppets? Oh dear....

That doesn't mean anything.

Loads of no-hopers have got to number 1, it doesn't mean anything.

My point is over the choice of artist for a Bond film.

I thought it was obvious, was it supposed to be a good suggestion?

I must be bigger fan of them, given that I correctly named the band.

He's probably worked on plenty of albums, too. Just as Paul Epworth has worked with plenty of other artists besides Adele.

I mean seriously? Their overall general appeal ceased about five years ago. They are simply far, far too bad to even be considered.

Come on. Go listen to R U Mine, Evil Twin, The Blond-O-Sonic Shimmer Trap, and tell me they're a bad band.

They're not completely wrong for Bond. Something like The Jeweller's Hands or Dangerous Animals or could work.

No thankyou. I can't stand that little boy and his whiny voice. You can even hear his Sheffield accent when he 'sings'.

It's gag inducing.

I'm sure there's a decent joke in there somewhere relating to the title of the Arctic Monkeys' fourth album.

More seriously, I happen to like his voice, particularly in Alex Turner's work with The Last Shadow Puppets. In addition, the biggest band of all time also fared quite well with regional English accents. However, for now, I hope they pursue Adele or Florence for the SKYFALL theme. I was a big cheerleader for Alex Turner for BOND 22, but he doesn't seem to have been as prominent in the last year or so. It seems fair for the producers to chase the freshest act they can find.

With Thomas Newman involved I wouldn't be surprised if it was done with a fiddle.

Here's an excerpt from the interview in the German magazin DER HÖRSPIEGEL (http://www.Hoerspiegel.de), also dealing with title song artists.

Question:

DER HÖRSPIEGEL: Imagine it was up to you to choose an artist to perform the “Carte Blanche” title song…

Answer:

JEFFERY DEAVER: As much as I respect here I would not probably pick Lady Gaga. I tell you who I would like. Do you know the album with Robert Plant and Alison Krauss? Alison Krauss is an absolute cross-over country/western singer in America. And I would love her to sing it. Actually I have just written an album of songs for my next book. Maybe I should write the lyrics for “Carte Blache”. You know, that could actually be a lot of fun. Now, I think that you have said that, I think I will probably try that.

It means that to say they're not popular is a load of old bollocks.

According to several reports stemming from a recent radio interview Adele has stated that she intends to release a new single (not taken from the album '21') towards the end of the year but a new album will be at least a couple of years away.

http://www.bbc.co.uk...t-arts-17586409

This is inevitably leading to further speculation that she will be doing the Skyfall theme but when (or even if) this will be comfirmed is yet to be seen.

I wonder if EON will completely surprise us by picking someone from left field though?

How about Adele? I think this might be it..

http://www.entertain...fall-Theme-Role

She has a unique sound and would be a great choice, IMO.
Certainly she is one of the bigger artists out there in terms of popularity right now too. That never hurts..

Yup! The Guardian reporting the same, about Adele releasing a new single 'towards the end of the year', because it 'takes a while': http://www.guardian....dele-new-single

She's my number one choice, really really hoping she's the one who sings the title theme!

I'm going to throw Paul Weller and George Michael into it. Maybe Madeleine Peyroux, Melody Gardot and Rebekka Bakken too, just for good measure.

By now we should have all bases covered, no? Over 39 pages the CBn people surely must have landed a hit. I can hardly believe whoever ends up doing it is not mentioned within this thread already. So in the end you can probably say you read it here. Unless of course they go with some way-out-there act, somebody nobody dared thinking of, like Madonna or Elvis or Engelbert Humperdinck...

Humperdinck's last album was way too out there. If he was like he used to be, he'd be perfect for Bond.

How about the team behind the "Lost QUANTUM OF SOLACE song".by Eve Almer (titled "Forever")

Overall, I was a bit unhappy with White and Keys' musical contribution to QOS. Lyrics were fine, but it felt like EON was trying to go "Hip" instead of "Classic".

Here is the "one that got away...". Sorry if it was already posted. Love it: it's even got snippets of dialogue from CR:

Ahhhhhh, to be able to watch QOS without covering my ears during the opening titles.... how would that feel? Sigh...

I dont think Engelbert Humperdinck and the phrase "way too out there" go together

When do they normally release this information about who is performing the theme song? How many months/days before the film release?

Does anyone remember what it was for CR or QOS?

The only thing I remember is that in QoS they announced the duo a couple of months before the official release and everyone here was wondering what took them so long.

That Cornell would be an easy win for me. At this point I get the feeling with so much surrounding Adele and until Eon announce otherwise, it will be Adele, if she wants it.
