Adele:
Not sure if you guys down-under got to see the recent Brit Awards held here in London but arguably the performance of the night came from Adele signing 'Someone Like You"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OZtUjFJvYkA
Compared to other acts that night who relied on gimmicks and controversy to enhance their performance Adele proved all you need is a decent pianist, a great song and a voice to rival Dusty Springfield.

They're about as opposite as you can get. Perry makes bubblegum pop for the lowest common demoninator audience. Everything about her, from her music to her wardrobe to her "bizarre" personality and stunts are carefully chosen for her by marketing gurus intent on selling as many albums as they possibly can. She is the poster girl for manufactured pop music. How else would they take the child of devoutly-religious parents and put her in a music video where she sprays whipped cream from her breasts and mimes sex acts? Go and watch the video for California Girls (I refuse to spell it any other way) if you don't believe me. And have you ever seen an interview with her? She's incredibly stupid. Like stupider than a chipmunk. Having Perry do a Bond theme would be like asking Justin Bieber or Ke-dollar-ha or Rebecca Black to do it: a bullet in the head for the Bond franchise and its credibility. I don't often give out negative reputation points, but I'm afraid you earned it for that suggestion.
Rihanna, on the other hand, has the musical chops to pull it off - but I think she's a little close to Alicia Keys to be offering her the gig now.

MUSE & Adele
Why not copy other soundtracks (like Top Gun) and have several songs by several different artists?
I think THE LIVING DAYLIGHTS soundtrack was very good, with solid contributions by A-ha and The Pretenders.
But they were all written by John Barry and produced by Swing Out Sister's Paul O'Duffy. Barry worked all three themes into the score, and O’Duffy did the drum loops/hand claps/synth bass on cues like Necros Attacks, Ice Chase, Hercules Takes Off etc...
Because of that there was good consistency.

Are you suggesting that David Arnold is not capable of doing something similar?
I dunno. He tried it for TWINE by writing both the Garbage and Scott Walker songs. The later was very disappointing, if you ask me. A waste of Walker's great talents.

Alela Diane has the voice to do a Bond song. Do you know her ? Although she mainly sings with an acoustic guitar only (which is not very Bondian, is it ?)
Arguably two of the greatest Bond songs - GOLDFINGER and WE HAVE ALL THE TIME IN THE WORLD, featured an acoustic guitar as an accompaniment.

Yes I agree, but there is not only a guitar and a voice in Goldfinger and We have all the time in the world, there is also brass and strings instruments for instance. If you listen Alela's song The pirate's gospel, her most famous, you will only hear a voice, a guitar, and hand claps. And I think it's not very Bondian. A track like Gypsy camp in From Russia with love lets us hear a classical guitar, but it has also an orchestration, and I don't know if there is one track in all James Bond films with only an acoustic guitar, but I could be wrong.

Something akin to Daylights would be the ultimate for 23 - a contemporary title song for the main titles and a more classic song for the end, both worked into the score. Both could be 'sold' as songs for the film's promotion. Because it's the fiftieth anniversary the film could even have a unique title sequence for the closing credits as well.

Same could be said for the majority of bands/singers mentioned here if we're being honest- anyway just an idea, they would never even be in the running- Adele would be probably great- no doubt it will be someone hot and unoriginal

I think Adele would bring back the sound of Shirley Bassey with out making it feel dated.

GO Adele.
Hell, if you're gonna use Cinematic, you might as well get Fontana Bass to sing the title track as well.
I think Adele's a no-brainer. Especially since she's on XL Columbia Records, which is part of Sony Music. Give her some decent production & songwriting- that's not beholden to the title of BOND 23 and this would be lovely.
I'm not saying I'm picky when it comes to who sings the title song for a Bond film. I just want the song to flow with the title sequence.

My big tip would be Kylie Minogue. I reckon she'd be great for a Bond theme.
