I'd actually be wary on Daft Punk, since the TRON soundtrack was a disappointment in my eyes. Maybe that's because I convinced myself it'd be the greatest thing ever.

TRON LEGACY's soundtrack was its ultimate saving grace. Daft Punk doing a Bond song would be beyond apt on all sorts of levels.

Who? I expect they chose Alicia Keys because she's really well known and successful and has a great voice.

A great voice ? You're probably very influenced by her body...

Eva Almer, the (famous) rejected Bond song "Forever I'm yours"...She had a great voice !

AWFUL AWFUL song. So wrong on so many levels.

Yes. I went to see Tron: Legacy, and I actually enjoyed the score more than the movie itself (although I found it reasonably good).
Daft Punk on Bond could add a very different and welcome touch.

There was a local indie band to me called Marion who I always thought would do a decent Bond theme, then they released Miyako Hideaway which I thought was very Bond. Give it a play. :)

I heard some cuts from Tom Jones' new CD and I totally agree. It would be a very retro choice but he still has the pipes to pull it off. I guess it would depend on the tone of the movie. You can listen to samples here

I'd also like Tommy back! I didn't liked "Praise & Blame" too much, but "24 Hours" has beautiful songs!

What about Oksana Grigirieva? "Say My Name" from the film EDGE OF DARKNESS was very Bondian in a way.

What about Shirley Bassey again?

Yes,why not? She still sounds great. Worked recently with Arnold too. She'd be a great choice.

Dame Shirley would be a wonderful choice, same as Tom Jones. I'd like to see more of a retro music style for 23.

I agree, Praise & Blame is not very Bondian but it shows that he still has the voice to pull it off.

If they're going rock, please let U2 do it! They showed what they can do with the lyrics in Goldeneye. Let them show can they can do with the music!

If they're going ballad......I don't know!

I have to agree here. I'd love to see U2 actually perform the title song. Sticking with Rock I'd also like to see the possibility of Alter Bridge getting the exposure that a bond theme would bring to the band as they are still relativly unknown.

If the theme is to go along the ballad route, I think Duffy would do a good choice, take a look at her song Warwick Avenue, I also think Sarah McLachlan would be an inspired choice.

I completely agree with U2. Their style of rock definitely fits the Bond series.

Gotta agree. It's a forgone conclusion we'd hear the same mix of ostinatic "bm-bm-bm-bm" bass with "chika-chika" guitar and Bono singing low for a while, exploding on the chorus out of nowhere with "WHOAAAAAAAA!!!" on high C above the staff. Rinse and repeat until the director's credit.

Hugely influential, and great 80s music to listen to, but we can do better today.

When every new movie popes along you talk about Shirley and Tom Jones.. come on. Their time has evaporated.
We need some fresh and talented blood for the new masses of Bond fans.
Alicia Keys was a good choice in '08. she has the voice but that awful song ruined it.

Well if U2 are completely off the board then again I say Alter Bridge, they could go the more ballad route or completely rock it up.

I'd say Alter Bridge aren't well known internationally to be an option really.

Regardless of whoever gets to perform the next title track my main concern is that David Arnold (assuming he'll be returning) will get the chance to have an input on the selection. The best titles and scores are those that have a natural thematic link and don’t feel like they’re competing with each other.

As for who (artist/group) should actually perform ‘Bond 23’ I would hope that depends on the eventual tone of the film and maybe to a slightly lesser extent whatever the actual title will be. The choice of artist might not always be obvious (who predicted Chris Cornell prior to CR?) but they should always ideally ‘fit’ into the style of the movie made at that time.

But if I were to choose a group right now, as with many others on here my top choice would be ‘Muse’.

However, if the producers were looking for a female I would seriously hope they’d consider ‘Adele’. Her latest release displays a voice that has a real sense of soul and experience and I would love to hear what she could produce alongside David Arnold.

Paul.

Adele; yeah, not a bad suggestion. She has a belting voice and is on the right side of pop- she has credibility (unlike a lot of the poppier suggestions here).

That would be a far better song for a Bond film than any of the previous six.

Gravity nailed it when he said the song sounded both "retro & current" and that is a quality shared by the very best of the Bond songs.

Adele didn't really feature on my musical radar but I caught her being interviewed on a UK chat show (Alan Carr) a few nights ago and she came across brilliantly. It's hard to believe she is only 21 but her voice has real maturity.

Would it be too much to hope that we get both Muse & Adele on Bond 23 and have quality tracks at the start and end of the film?

It's been a long wait since QOS but now the next production is gearing up it's great to start the speculating again!

Why does "going retro" always = Shirley Bassey? I never hear anyone say: 'Let's get that 80's vibe back with A-ha or Duran Duran.'

Shirley Bassey is a sentimental choice, but she wouldn't push any records up the sales charts. Plus, she was involved with John Barry, which is why her tunes were only on soundtracks that he was involved with. Take Barry out of the equation and Shirley no longer fits.

You might be right about the Barry link but Shirley Bassey does not need Barry - as her work with a great range of artists including Arnold proves.

If we were to get a 'flavour of the month' choice rather than something more traditional, I think I'd like Florence and the Machine best.

Clearly not. But I struggle to see how her work with David Arnold, The Propellerheads, Manic Street Preachers, Nelson Riddle, Chris Rea, and Never the Bride - are anywhere near as iconic, memorable and ingrained in the public's consciousness as her Bond collaborations with John Barry.

Although it won't happen, I would love either Bassey or Jones. Even at their age, they both still have better voices than any performers 1/3 their age out there. Of course Mrs Jaguar and myself are big Tom Jones fans (we have seen him perform 4 times). Having Bassey do the title song might be a nice nod since it is the 50th anniversary film.

Of course I'm waiting for The Sun to announce that the title song to Bond #23 (Red Sky at Night) will be performed by the cast of GLEE :S
