However, I feel there are times when fans forget that the producers are not 'just' making these films for us but also to a larger audience and more importantly for the next generation of fans who will hopefully embrace the character and keep it popular for many more years to come. With this in mind shouldn't the Bond films use artists who have the potential to become the next Shirley Bassey, not anyone who is simply 'flavour of the month' but artists with real credibility and potential longevity?
The next generation of fans need to establish their own personal connection to the character of Bond in the same way all of us have done over the years and using artists that have relevance to them is a way of establishing that. Who knows, in twenty years time there might be thirtysomething fans on this forum suggesting EON use 'Muse' again for Bond 30 as it would be a nice throwback to Bond 23!

I originally posted the idea of a Jones/Bassey duet somewhat tongue in cheek. But the more that I think about it, I really like the Idea. 2012 will be the 50th anniversery of the Bond films. And while I don't want to see a movie laced with awkward homeges to past films, I would like to see one that, while contemporary, has a classic/retro feel. Three aspects can creat that feel, Music, cinematography and production design. Both Jones and Bassey have worked with todays artist, with success. And as far as having a hit song that will get massive radio play, when is the last time that happened? It was A View to a Kill, 26 YEARS ago. I want a song that makes the movie better as a whole, not one chosen in a calculated attempt to be a hit.

Skylar Grey (formerly known as Holly Brook) is blowing up huge. She wrote "Love the Way You Lie" and has been featured on a couple other top 10 songs lately.

Not bad effort there that one harry gets my vote.
you cannot really decide on the theme or singer until the script and filming has started, so a feel for the mood and direction of the film can be taken into consideration. i think the best modern one without a doubt was Yoy Know My Name it captured the mood perfectly.

Her talent is so far-out she simply doesn't need to dress and act like a skank whore to sell records. The current charts show how amazing her music is.
She puts 100% heart and soul into every single song, she could do a Bond title....easily.

I like that they also point out that he first revealed that Jack White was doing the last one!
He may well be a good choice to write it (Last Shadow Puppets drip in Bondiness) but his voice isn't really right for it, I'd say.

Big Michael Buble fan... Would love to see him give it a go!
If he gets the right lyrics he could totally kill it. I give him my vote.

I agree. In 1973, I was that next generation of fan. I knew of Connery as 007, but Live And Let Die was the first film I went to the theater to see (several times). I was hooked instantly and have been an uber-nerd ever since. Because I was also a big fan of The Beatles (I was a hip 11-year-old), it certainly didn't hurt that McCartney performed the title music. In fact, Live And Let Die was the first soundtrack album I ever bought.
Regarding the question; Of course, I always hope it's someone I dig. However, if it isn't (Ah Ha, Cheryl Crow, Garbage, Madonna), I just leave that song off my ipod & car CD.
