THE PRISONER - on Blu Ray!

One of the best British show's ever in amazing quality compared to its horrible Region 1 DVD version.

I'm going back through my Firefly collection. I watched the first two episodes tonight (the pilot and "The Train Job"). It's been quite a while since I sat down and watched the show and it's nice to be reminded of why I fell in love with it in the first place. A show that was canceled well before it's time.

I've always wanted to watch this show but I never have the time but I should at least watch the first episode and see if I like it.

Gave Chuck another chance tonight. One has to wonder what was going on in the writers' room during the development of this current season. The first order in business in there was to open the window and throw all concepts of reason out and embark on the most inane plotline in the history of television. One would be hard pressed to find almost thirty year-olds who act as immaturely towards one another as Chuck, Sarah, Shaw, and the rest of the gang do towards each other. The only character that has his head on even remotely straight is Adam Baldwin's Casey, who is featured so little anymore that one has to wonder if he filmed his entire seasons' worth of lines in one day.

One positive aspect about this otherwise garbage episode is that it now appears as though
Spoiler

It's a shame to see what they've done to this show, though. Chuck was my favorite show on TV. Season 2 was, IMO, one of the best seasons of TV I'd ever watched.

I love FIREFLY. Such a fantastic show. I quite like SERENITY, too. Would have enjoyed it if they had at least done more feature films...

Never say never. I was one of those rare Firefly fans that discovered the show during it's short time on Fox, it took little time for me to fall in love with it. Let me tell you when I found out it was canceled I felt the same way Nathan Fillion did...heart broken. For nearly two years there was rumors of a movie being made and no one said it could be done (at least that's what the detractors were saying). Well it got made, and it was glorious...but now I'm rambling. My point is, never give up hope. Sure it's been five years, and chances are we won't ever see another movie, but I know the will is there, once there's a way, he'll use it.

Anyways, I'm nearly wrapping up my run of Firefly now, got three episodes left than I move onto the film. In a way I'm glad I waited this long to revisit the series, make's everything seem fresh again. It's certainly lost none of the allure that it had when I was introduced to it those eight years ago (gosh has it really been that long!?), perhaps in a way it's a blessing the show was so short, it never got time to get stale.

Chuck and 24. While I agree with tdalton that Chuck is not as good as past season, I'm happy to say at least I am still enjoying the show. That new addition, Hanna, sure is one beautiful lady.

I still agree with Tdalton that after what Chuck and Sarah went through on the season 2 finale, their feelings seemed to change too quickly to be real. I think it will turn out they they are just trying to hide those feelings from themselves but they are still in love with each other.

I don't think that this is a realistic direction for Chuck to go anymore. Unless they pull a complete 180, tell the viewers that the last few episodes never happened, and then jump into a time machine, I'm going to consider Chuck and Sarah officially over. There is no way that they can realistically get them back together at this point. I think that, for the health of the series, they should leave them apart for at least the rest of the season and then hope that they're somehow granted a fourth season (which I now don't think will happen). Last night's episode was such a debacle on many fronts that I'm not sure that the series can recover in order to secure a fourth season. Now, it just seems like it's the march to the series finale on May 24th.

At least they already have an episode that could serve as a very good series finale, but one would have to go all the way back to Season 2 to find it. "Chuck vs. the Colonel" (the second to last episode of Season 2) will now be the episode that I end my Chuck viewing with from now on, serving as something of an unofficial series finale in my mind (it actually wraps things up in a somewhat reasonable manner, unlike the mess that has followed in Season 3).

Finished up my viewing of Firefly today. Was great spending these last few days revisiting some old friends. To me Firefly is so much more than a show, but than I can't really quantify that feeling much into words, so I'll just leave it at that.

I agree.

I think that where they really made the mistake in S3, even beyond the nonsensical character reboots they did in the season premiere, was the casting of Brandon Routh as Agent Shaw. Routh just doesn't have the charisma or the screen presence to pull off that character, especially when having to spend most of his time playing opposite the excellent Yvonne Strahovski and Adam Baldwin. While I'd still very much dislike the direction they've taken the series, I think that what they're currently going for would go over better if the Shaw character was a bit better developed and was brought to the screen through much more dynamic performances than what we're currently seeing from Routh. I don't see it as much of Routh being a particularly bad actor (I don't think that he's a great actor, but he's far from bad), but to me, a character that comes in and changes the entire dynamic of a show has to be on that is captivating to watch, and Routh's Shaw just isn't that character.

THE GOOD WIFE. Keeps getting better and better. Declare Chris Noth a national treasure and start throwing some major film roles his way while he's still young enough to do 'em. What this guy can do with five-ten minutes' air time a week is astonishing. He's never more present than when not in sight.

First And 10

Pretty good sports show with the always critical Skip Bayless. I even remember during the week that CR was released that Skip criticized the movie for being so bloody and serious and he did not like it. Same goes for The Dark Knight where he thought that Jack Nicholson's performance as The Joker in the first Batman was better than Heath Ledger. Despite all this I sometimes agree with him but he really makes the show entertaining for me.

Sixth Form College (I guess that's like High School in the U.S.)

Sixth-form is roughly the equivalent of twelfth grade. Could go into finer details but I'll spare you; there's wikipedia and other sources if you're interested.

Anywho, show sounds interesting. Tybre might be checking it out eventually. Probably shan't be for a long time given how lazy I am about that sort of thing (put off Castle for heaven knows how long), but definitely going to give it a go eventually.

I've read the Wikipedia page before on Sixth Form College, but was too lazy to go back and look it up again (are you old enough to remember having encyclopedias and personal home libraries? Can't believe how lazy I am with Wikipedia literally a key-tap away).

I like trying out British shows. Most work for me; a few don't. British television shows are about the only foreign shows I can get through Netflix. I can get foreign movies, but it's hard to get any television shows that aren't from Britain (and even Australia is a bit dodgy). In my Netflix que I've got:

Robin Hood
Little Britain,
Fawlty Towers,
French and Saunders
A Bit of Fry and Laurie
SPOOKS (MI-5 in the US)
The Tudors (about Britain anyway)
The Prisoner (original tv series and remake with Jim Caveziel),
Summer Heights High (technically Australian)

I have heard good things about Robin Hood but I have never seen it but I have seen both the original Prisoner and the remake and I really like the original because every episode is entertaining and witty unlike the remake which is very serious and is stlll good but its one of those shows you have to pay attention to every detail to fully understand unlike the original. By the way I hate how with Netflix on their basic plan when you get done with the first disc of a TV show box set you have to wait a couple of days to get the next one.

Personally I just stream foreign shows when I don't have the luxury of being able to watch them on TV, which is pretty much only British shows when visiting friends thereabouts. Sometimes you have to really hunt for sources, and some I cannot find for the life of me, but most are easy to find and in good quality. You should see what shows Netflix lets you stream, too. I watched a couple of episodes of the Tudors on there, but it wasn't compelling enough for me to watch it regularly, so I'm just going to be nipping in and out whenever I feel like watching an episode or two.

Anyways, last TV show I watched was The Marvelous Misadventures of Flapjack. Used to just leave it on as background noise because at the time they introduced it, it was wedged in amongst crap shows replacing a good programming block. There was a mini-marathon on on Thursday and I had nothing better to do so I watched it. Catching up on old episodes online now. Show is the most random, pants-B)tingly insane thing I have ever seen in my life. Cannot stop laughing.

The West Wing, Season 1, Episode 2.

It's a repeat for my wife and me; I think we made it to season 5 or 6 before feeling it had jumped the shark. But, oh, my, in those early years it was fantastic (irrespective, I think, of one's politics).
