WOW! According to Box Office Mojo, Quantum of Solace has NEARLY outgrossed Casino Royale.

Domestic:
$110,993,282
Foreign: $308,336,564

WORLDWIDE:
$419,329,846

Just another 180 Million to go. :(

Nearly :) Now we are at the hard side. Generally %65-%70 of the revenue is being achieved. 600m$ is no problem, but beyond 650m$ which really seems a great sucess is a big question.

What do people recon James Bond pulls in over the 5 day and 3 day Thanksgiving weekend?

140m$ for USA. 145m$ will be great though.

For monday it did around 2m$ which is bigger than CR.

I'll take a crack at my own question:

5 day Thanksgiving : $28 million
3 day Weekend: $17

US Domestic (Cumulative) by Sunday night: $147 million.

International by Sunday night: $353 million

Totals by Sunday night: $500 million.

Well yes your numbers seems possible. It would be great if we can close November with over 500m$ :(

I think until 01.01.2009 QOS can pass 600m$. After that with the help of the Japanese market we can see up to 650m$. If we can close 2008 over 600m$ than we can pass 650m$ :) 700m$ will be too much pushing but we will see.

Do you own phantom stock in Danjaq...or shares in MGM Mirage or Sony Corp or something, YOLT? You seem like a cheerleader for Q0S's box office when you use the word "we". :(

In Turkish we generally say "we" when we support something. Its just not "it" for me. It's we :)

Also I am not one of those fans that think or hope that QOS will flop or be a disaster. I always wanted great numbers from 007 films that I didnt liked. If one flops than we will have to wait years and years (as of after LTK) or the series maybe in big trouble.

I liked QOS but didnt Loved it. However I want a sucess in revenue. There is still chance for the next one to be loved ;) Thats the best thing about 007. It never ends :)

Yes, I would guess $20-25 million which would be a good 5 day haul.

Just a guess: 17 might be a bit too sophisticated an audience for it? 12-14 sounds more like the right range IMO.

On the contrary I felt the movie (surprisingly) included a number of adult themes that were probably too sophisticated for a 17 year old to get a proper handle on.

What did you see when you went to the movie that led you to your conclusion?

Haven't seen it, just reading between the lines of the reviews (so what do I know? :( ).

According to my wife and 17 year old daughter it is more suited to 12 - 14 year olds. Niether one of them could barley keep a straight face during Twilight. I think they said other people kept getting annoyed because they were laughing at the stupidity of the serious scenes. THey said it was like watching CSI Miami only worse (or better, depending on how you look at it).

Well, TWILIGHT was "rotten" or RT before it opened to an unusually high level of advanced and pent-up sales.

AUSTRALIA is equally as "rotten" on RT.

QUANTUM is the only "fresh" major film out there right now.

But I suspect it most likely wont do better than 4th this weekend because it was a heavily front loaded release.

Thanks :(

So these are the numbers for Tuesday. Way over CR's second week numbers.

$2,937,319
+33.4% / -27.5%
$113,930,601 / 12

Even 140m$ seems possible now. As of this Sunday ofcourse.

We also say 'we' all the time to express our support (in our case maybe it has to do with our communist past ;). I really want Qos to succeed.
Btw, YOLT, is it right that Qos wasn't #1 in Turkey the first weekend it was released? I thought turkish people loved Bond...

I really think that we have the chance that most people will love Bond 23. Of course it's far tooooo early to say something but I have a good feeling that the producers try and find the way to combine old and new in the next one.

Its not a bad past :D Eben Turkey in a NATO member since 50's many people support Russia over USA. Also Putin is liked in here.

Yes Turkish people like 007, but Turkish cinema is now at its peak. 10 years there were very few Turkish films to watch now its the opposite. QOS had been passed by a local movie, sole in the world :)

QOS will be in the top 5 foreign films, however not in the top10 of all movies in Turkey at 2008.

Btw "Journey to the Center of the World" is going to be No.1 among foreign films. Above Dark Knight etc. Very starnge isnt it :)

People like Jules Verne in here.

LOL. AUSTRALIA didn't even do as well as Q0S in Oz itself. Appearently, it did just over half what Quantum did on their respective opening day.

AUSTRALIA looks to be in trouble.

Yes. I also think it's not a bad past to have :) At least we had 1 ruler instead of 2 :)
I was young and leaved a happy and safe life. Childhood is always viewed with pink coloured glasses ;)
Btw I've seen some recent turkish art house films and really enjoyed them, depressive but beautiful! Do you know are there any plans to remake Resat Nuri Guntekin's Calikusu? I'm so in love with the book and the old series and will die to see the new version. :(

We have the same situation here in cinema business. Domestic films earn a lot more than Hollywood. #1 pic of the year will be Madagascar 2, it made 45 mil $. Local pic Admiral 37 mil. Qos made 17 mil as of now (including Ukraine). It has twice as much as CR. So it's a success but people are mostly dissappointed because it wasn't mindless fun that you can watch with children (or beer and popkorn). Dark Knight made 8 mil. Twilight will make around 6 mil I guess. But it has to do with promotion and the relese dates. TDK was released 2 months after US release, so everyone was able to watch it online.
'Journey to the Center of the World' was really well liked here but Mummy 3 was a lot more successful here. 30 mil $. Brendan Frazer is drawing crowds here not Jules Verne (unfortunately). And adventure pics traditionally get much BO gold (POTC etc.).

AUSTRALIA looks to be in trouble.

Im bit disappointed about 'Australia'. I really wish it could earn some awards. It looks beautiful, has wonderful actors like David Wenham and Jackman. And Nicole really deserves to have a successful film! Funny that Dan and Nic met again. Now at the BO :D Dan won actually. But it's again bittersweet.

And Bolt really deserves better BO IMHO. I enjoyed it much more than Madagascar.

Quantum beat Australia (and Transporter 3) in the USA on Wednesday too. Obviously Daniel should not co-star with Nicole Kidman again anytime soon :)

I've been reading a couple of reports saying it may just not be a strong opener, but may end up having strong legs at the box office. Guess these upcoming weeks will prove whether that is true or not.

It's a rare animal that has legs when it's deemed as being rotten. I wouldn't go banco on it.

Four Chrismases looks to battle Twilight for number one;

Bolt could be number three.

Q0S will try to fight off Transporter 3's debut, probably for 4th spot, perhaps even for 3rd.

I think Australia will TANK. I think Australia will be the big loser and cost its studio a lot of money.

We have one thing in common: Both being European and Asian :)
Yes Turkish films and series have been very depressive all the way. There are hardly comedy series here. There is a series called "Fall of the Leaves" :) which is very popular. (Also by Resat Nuri Guntekin). Calikusu was a hit in the 80's I hope one day they remake it. All the weekday nights belongs to women and their depressive series :D
As a film I can advice you "Issız Adam" (Alone Man), another depressive but also impressive film.
The Russian numbers are really great. The no.1 film in Turkey as of 2008 would make around 30m$ at total I think.

QOS made $4 mil in the US Wednesday, and another $4.5 mil Thursday, edging out "Bolt" for the #3 spot. Looking good for this weekend (somebody out there is obviuosly giving it some good word of mouth... :) ).

Great news :*: 140m# for US this Sunday seems more possible now. And a total of 485-500m$ worldwide.

I will try and see more turkish films when December comes and I'll have fast connection. In just 2 days I'll be able to get aquainted with Emule, torrents and all that stuff :) (Not to metion I finally will see all Dan's rare films like 'Some Voices' etc.)
Btw I don't think Calikusu is that depressive. It has a happy end after all!
The highest grossing movie of all time here is at about 55 mil.

US Domestic (Cumulative) by Sunday night: $147 million.

International by Sunday night: $353 million

Totals by Sunday night: $500 million.

So, it's running according to my aggressive estimates...~ $17 million in the bag over the Wed-Thur-Fri Thanksgiving holiday...$28 million by the end of Sunday seems like a piece of cake now.

It's blowing away Transporter 3's debut and Autralia is tanking.

QoS is doing very steady business at the box office but seems be flying under the radar due to the Twilight hoopla and a crowded marketplace. I can't help but be reminded of Tomorrow Never Dies having to compete with Titanic but quietly making a tidy sum.

No matter how much it makes, no matter whether it surpasses CR or not, one thing is sure: QoS is a commercial success, a blockbuster, a hit movie.

Now the sweating can start all over again to make Bond 23 as attractive as possible.

It all depends where the accountants peg the US Dollar exchange rate vs the various main territories.

UK Pound, Euro (for Germany, France, Spain, Italy, Benolux, Ireland, etc), Swiss Franc, Russian Ruble, Australian $, Yen.

Also important for 'Domestic' is the Canadian $ because Canada is historically 13 percent of US Domestic for James Bond.

Chinese Yuan is a controlled currency by the communist government so it won't fluctuate.

My reading of the Casino Royale thing is that the accountants used the December 1, 2006 closing cross-currency foreign exchange rate to determine UK results in US Dollars. They probably did that for all territories.

We're almost at Dec 1 of this year now.

I'll give you an answer tomorrow.

here are the thanksgiving numbers ...

New 007 holdover Quantum of Solace from MGM/Sony was No. 4 and earned from 3,458 runs a 3-day weekend of $19.5M and for the 5-day holiday $28.1M. Its three-week North American cume is $142M, pacing well ahead of Daniel Craig's first Bond actioner Casino Royale, which ended its 3-week run with close to $116M. Overseas, Quantum of Solace has sold a total of $340.1M in tickets, so its worldwide total to date is just over $482M.

It looks like QOS will end up in the $180-190 million range in the US!
