Haven't watched a Bond film since You Only Live Twice a month or so ago.
I quite fancy a Casino Royale / Quantum of Solace double bill - I've never watched them together, believe it or not.
I saw the end of YOLT the other night on Channel 7 here in Australia. My wife felt sorry for Aki having to go all the way back from the edge of the volcano to alert the others, in nothing but a bikini!

My favorite Bond movie.
Mathis telling about the Tale is kind of insulting to the audience. It's not necessary as it's fairly obvious what's going on. Even Bond explained what the Tale was a few minutes before. Why have Mathis retell it? It's not like there was person there who didn't hear about it the first time around. It was going to be a surprise anyways to see Le Chiffre reversebluff that hand, and beat Bond. I dunno why, but it irritated me this time more than ever.

The word you're looking for is the "Tell".
As in - you can tell that the player's behaviour has changed.

My bad. No poker expert here. I knew that though. Typo.

I actually haven't watched a Bond movie since at least last year!
now that you all did yell, here's the catch:
I am father to a 2 year old daughter (lovely girl, by the way), and taking care of her after work doesn't really allow for some 2 hour spare time in the evenings... not even metnionning week-ends, when the taking care business lasts for the whole day!
So I'm looking forward to getting her married, so that I have time for myself. I trust by 2035 I'll get to watch a Bond movie (they'll have them in 3D by then)!

Still my favorite of the Moore Bonds, followed closely by Moonraker. And the firetruck chase is still my favorite action sequence of the film...and that action cue Barry employs in many of the action sequences is still my favorite Bond action cue ever.

Watched CR and QOS a couple of days ago and my feelings were that they were the best Bond films in the series. DC Rocks!
That's because they are. Yes he does.

And it features my all time favourite RAF aircraft, the Avro Vulcan B2. Pity about what happens to it.

I agree. Funny that QOS pissed many people off largely for the opposite reason. Nothing was spelled out, and relatively little was dwelled on.Casino Royale (2006)

Anyway, QOS was on TV last night (The Movie Channel), and I was lucky enough to catch it just as the opening car chase started, so I decided to watch it until I lost interest. And although admittedly there were no commercial breaks, I still had too much of a blast to bother changing the channel. Always a good sign for a movie I've seen a million times.
LTK still has a special place in my heart, however, (for no nostalgic reason even, I just always liked it that much) and I'd probably rank it ahead of QOS despite all its 80s cheesiness. It just doesn't get much rawer in the world of 007. Having said that, I think it'll be the next Bond movie I watch...

Hmm. Time to start again, I guess.
I´ll start with OHMSS (becoming infatuated with it again after reading the wonderful Making-Of-Book). Then I probably will proceed with LTK (after the drubbing it got from Mr.Gravity I want to give it a closer look again). AVTAK is still high on my list since I actually realized how good it is (thanks to Zorin, of course). And then, the unloved (here, at least) DAD will be next. Followed by both Craig-Bonds in one sitting.
DR.NO would be of great interest to me, too - having seen that one only four or five times. And the nice Jamaican sun will fit into the summer mood I´m trying to get in.
After that I´ll probably spoil myself with DAF which I reconnected with in a BIG way after having seen it during the re-watch cycle (I had thought I would hate it but instead I LOVE it).
The others will have to rest a bit, I´m afraid, since I have seen them more often then these.

How could one think that? I know you've changed your opinion but at the time, what is it that made you think it was the worst entry in the series?Thumderball. I used to think that this was the worst film in the Bond series.

Don't forget Sean's hair. <3I'm pleased you have been won over, elizabeth. I like Thunderball because it features Connery at his height, Bond in the Caribbean, SPECTRE up to its old tricks, four great leading ladies, and a villain who seems to be a match for 007.
And it features my all time favourite RAF aircraft, the Avro Vulcan B2. Pity about what happens to it.
Last film I watched was Goldfinger. Still wicked amazing.

One of (if not) the worst Bond film ever. Ugh, the funny thing is, the disc kept stopping in the middle right before the layer change. If only I took that as a sign and stopped watching, lol.

In my book, I rank TLD right amongst the greatest entries in the franchise. FRWL, CR, TB, GF, and DN are the others. It’s definitely one of my favorites.
Dalton’s first outing can be described as nothing short of rock solid. His take on Bond is quite refreshing. For me, Roger Moore was already looking like a dirty old chap in 1980. In 1985 when AVTAK debuted, the producers where simply pushing the envelope. Moore looked way beyond retirement age. Too slow to fight bad guys mano-a-mano, and too decayed to pick up (much) younger broads. 1987: Enter Tim Dalton. His Bond is toned down. No more of the Moore showboating. And that alone works wonders in giving back the character the edge it had lost since OHMSS. Dalton plays a grittier and much darker Bond (Bond was a badbehind again!) with a sense of humor that is drier and more subtle. Reminded me so much of Connery. I’m sure Fleming would have been pleased with what Dalton did with the character. Did he capture the essence of the literal James Bond in more ways than anyone before? Probably.
The PTS in TLD, IMHO, is the best in the series. In one MI6 training exercise, three 00's, including Bond, must infiltrate a British radar facility in Gibraltar (the panoramic views are breathtaking!). Bond discovers that at least 1 of the other 00’s has been murdered. He finds the killer, then ends up with him inside a burning Jeep loaded with explosives while running at full speed. Bond gets rid of the hitman and ends up on a yacht with a lonely woman. Whoever said Dalton wasn't convincingly suave? He is terrific here!
The score, as I’ve mentioned before on another thread, is right at the top of series, if not the very top. “Ice Chase” is probably the best action cue in all 22 films. The way it integrates the Bond theme is so organic it seems that those two were born to be together. Folks, this is John Barry at his very best!
The pace is tight and the plot far more involving than on any Bond film since FYEO. It's a real complex story of intrigue and espionage. It’s the only Bond film to date that truly submerges the audience into the world of the Cold War. This is John Glen’s pinnacle as director of Bond films. Richard Maibaum once again shows why he is the only screenwriter that understands how a Bond film translates into the big screen.
The only real weaknesses are the female lead Maryam d'Abo (not believable as a human being), and perhaps they could have done a better job fleshing out the villain(s). All in all, TLD is just a fraction away from Bondom perfection.

Just talk about the last Bond movie you watched.
Casino Royale was on Showtime, so I watched it again. Its still pretty damn amazing...a Bond film that actually seems real, with real acting, and a plausible narrative and everything. You've got terrorists and financiers, you've got people who blow up stuff for stock swindles through complicated plausibly-deniable contacts, you've got undercover agents and cell-phone traces -- by God if that doesn't sound convincingly real. What the hell are they doing to my movie franchise?! Why, not once does Le Chiffre say to a henchman "Find him and kill him."
"Quantum of Solace" - it gets better and better each time. But still, tough to beat "Casino Royale"!
