The James Bond theme itself isn't the problem, rather it's these cheesy, generic Hans Zimmer arrangements with stabby synth doubled instruments and cliched, stock African percussion. If you like that kind of thing, fine, go watch NATIONAL TREASURE or THE ROCK. For the rest of us however, why not some romantic, moody Barry style stripped down orchestration, with emphasis on melody rather than cliched Hollywood action movie percussion? By that I don't mean some horrible 60s pastiche throwback like THE INCREDIBLES, but merely an effort to adhere to the tradition that Bond is built on. THE LIVING DAYLIGHTS managed to successfully take all of the romantic and exotic elements of Barry and update it for the MIDI saturated world of the mid 80s, so why can't they try the same here?
We all know that David Arnold's actual score for CASINO ROYALE sounded nothing like the horrendously cliched trailer music, so why do the publicists have such a desire to associate Bond with lowbrow Bruckheimer twaddle?
They got it right with the GOLDENEYE trailer.
