For those who are interested, Best Buy is having a sale on all of the Bond Blu-ray's for $12.99 a pop and this is online and you can price match in store if needed. If you decide to buy them online there is also a special free shipping deal with them as well.

thanks for the tip! I still need The World Is Not Enough. I'll pick it up this week.

As far as the rest of the films... we will not see them on blu ray until the MGM Studios situation is resolved. Hopefully the MGM matter will come to a head in March (when the interest payments for the studio debt are due) and be resolved.

At that time hopefully there will be an ownership change and the new owners will want to get the other Bond films out on blu ray..

Stay tuned and be patient.

Hey scaramunga, do you own the Blu-ray of For Your Eyes Only and if so how does it compare to the UE DVD because I own the 2 Disc UE and was thinking about getting this one because of this sale. Oh, I did buy Licence to Kill today from Best Buy and the sale is definitely in-store as well plus it seemed they restocked the Bond titles since there were a minimum of 5 copies per title but last week it was more like one.

Hello Joe! I have For Your Eyes Only on blu ray. It looks fantastic too!! Comparison to the UE DVD? The blu ray looks much better. Both in terms of picture and sound. Do you have any specific questions about FYEO blu ray?

I must say for all of the Bond films on blu ray this is the best I have ever seen the films on any format. I can't say enough about the picture and also the DTS HD Master Audio tracks. I've never heard the films so clean and clear in terms of audio and picture.

Here's a review with some decent screen caps:

http://www.dvdbeaver...two_blu-ray.htm

and one with a more technical review of the sound and picture.

http://bluray.highde...ureyesonly.html

Despite the review, I think it sounds and looks amazing. Certainly, as the review states, the best it has ever looked.

Note - I put the film on as well, as I am typing this. Blu ray really brings out the clarity of image and the clarity of the audio. Especially when a film is properly scanned and remastered like the Bond films were. Plus the great work by Mi Casa sound on the new audio tracks.

Great stuff.

I ordered The World Is Not Enough from Best Buy. So I'm all set now until MGM (or the new MGM) releases more of the official films. I'll pass on Never Say Never Again. I have that one on VHS and that's good enough. The official films are all purchases for me though. : )

Update. Here's one more from The Digital Bits. I usually pay attention to the technical parts of disc reviews for sound and picture.

http://www.thedigita...ndhd02.html#for

I guess most of the 80's Bond films used a somewhat flat film stock? At any rate, I think For Your Eyes Only looks amazing on blu ray. Plus top marks for the sound too.

Very informative feedback. I just wanted to make sure about the improvements since I become pretty picky when choosing to upgrade a title I already own on a different format. I completely agree with your stance on Never Say Never Again but in my case if I ever want to watch it I will just go to my local library who just happen to have the DVD that was released at the same time as with the Blu-ray. I do want to mention that the review I read for FYEO Blu-ray on Blu-ray.com mentioned how uninteresting the image was because of the style and I would have to disagree with that since sure the cinematography may be muted in comparison to other Bond films but it still has a lot of beautiful locations. Besides like you mentioned I doubt this will look any better but I do want to ask how does it compare to Licence to Kill's Blu-ray transfer since I was really impressed by it but I would expect there would be a difference due to the fact they were made at opposite ends of the decade so technology would have gotten better when LTK was made.

comparing FYEO to LTK, I'd probably give the edge to LTK. However, the blu ray of FYEO is the best the film has ever looked. I watched quite a bit of it the other night after posting. I really think story wise that may be Roger's best one. Anyway, the style of the film may have a flat looking style, but I think the blu ray transfer is amazing. I also think the audio is very good as I mentioned before. For $12.99 at Best Buy this week, you won't be disappointed with it.

It was also a nice touch for MGM to allow John Cork's team to redo some of the featurettes in HD too!!

Let me know what you think when you pick it up and watch it!!

I bought the FYEO Blu-ray but I did so through the Amazon market place since I still had some left over gift card credit but now I am thinking about The Man with the Golden Gun. Right now I own it through iTunes HD but its only 720p and I am pretty satisfied with the quality on my 32 inch TV but I was wondering how good the clarity is on the Blu-ray and sometimes with the iTunes HD version there is slight noise around objects especially the edges of clothes or a specific instance I remember is when Bond has the porter to open the door for the hotel room where Maud Adams' character is taking a shower well the 602 number on the door had slight noise around it and I was wondering if the Blu-ray had this (I am assuming this noise is due to the higher compression of the iTunes version and will be absent but I want to make for sure). Another thing is that the iTunes version comes with the Special Edition stereo track and the Blu-ray has the DTS-HD track, plus the original mono, and I was also wondering if the sound would be improved as well.

Joe - I can tell you the blu ray of The Man With The Golden Gun is much, much better than the UE DVD version released in 2006. I was actually blown away by the clarity of the sound for this one. I wasn't expecting much of an improvement over the DTS soundtrack of the UE DVD. I was very wrong!

Also, the picture on Golden Gun is great. It's well worth picking it up for $12.99 at Best Buy this week. I don't think you will be disappointed at all with it.

Just like the other Bond films on blu ray, this is the best they have ever looked.

I've heard a few comments about the Itunes HD versions being compared. You are correct from what I've read the blu ray offers superior picture. Plus blu ray offers better sound as well. I am very glad I picked up a receiver to play the DTS HD Master Audio tracks. They sound amazing.

Another route to go would be using a blu ray player with analog outs for the audio.

Well besides the obvious compression improvements the Blu-ray had slight color improvements over the iTunes HD version and this looks better than I have ever seen the film in. I like watching these versions since it gives the feeling of actually watching film than video from a disc. I did watch the entire Double-O Stuntmen documentary and found it interesting that they showed some clips from OHMSS, AVTAK, GE, YOLT, and TND in HD even though they are not available on Blu-ray yet and it looks like those films will get great Blu-ray transfers.

Can anyone confirm that For Your Eyes Only may have lip sync issues..mostly I noticed this in the opening scene when the priest speaks to Bond and also the opening credits when Sheena Easton is singing. I have set my amp to auto on for lip sync. I have done some direct comparisons with the old special edition dvd and dvd is clearly exact in sync then the blu ray.

Funny I only noticed this recently..I'm sure I've never seen it previously. Could anyone check this for me to clear up any concerns.

Most appreciated.

I just checked it and I saw no lip-sync issues on the scenes you mentioned which means the problem is probably due to your sound set up.

Best Buy has the films on sale again this week for $12.99.

I found it very interesting that MGM is releasing The Thomas Crown Affair blu ray tomorrow. I also find it odd that MGM has announced 3 more blu ray titles coming in May. The Magnificent Seven, Hang Em High and The Man In The Iron Mask.

Just curious why MGM or Fox were given the go ahead to release these given MGM's dire situation at this point?

If it's a matter that the work for blu ray release was already under way, then why not the remaining James Bond films? We know that Lowry has completed the work on all of the Bond films. We also have seen some of the unreleased Bond blu ray films on cable, etc.

And I believe that's the key. They probably asked a premium price from these cable networks etc. precisely because these movies have not been released to home video on HD. Could be the deals they've made have a set time of HD exclusivity.

That's a good point too. I hadn't considered it either. I always wonder how the deals for the Bond films work. It seems like so many different cable channels have them now. Back in the day it seemed only TBS or Spike had the cable rights for a set period of time. Now they seem to show up on Bravo, Spike or where ever...

There is also more MGM news today that the Sergio Leone Eastwood films are coming to blu ray in the UK in June.

Pretty huge MGM release for a studio that is in the process of taking bids for sale...

MGM is bringing the Leon Eastwood films to the US on blu ray in June as well.

In addition MGM is reissuing some of their titles in April with new DVD packaging that includes a copy of both DVD and Blu ray.

Still nothing new on Bond on blu ray though.

I'm curious to know how people thought Never Say Never Again looked and sounded on blu ray. I am not a fan of the film, but was thinking of picking it up anyway as I only have the film on VHS.

I did finally pick up the 1967 Casino Royale film on DVD too. Wal Mart has it for $3. Is there any blu ray plans for this title I wonder?

Never Say Never Again was good on Blu-ray but definitely not a Lowery restoration product (& I don't think we will ever get one). The video showed some age in spots but it had the kind of detail you would expect from a Blu-ray. It is an improvement over the DVD. The audio quality was better. It's remixed in DTS-HD MA & it sounded good especially for an early 80s movie. There are a few extras, most notably the commentary track with Kerschner. For me, it was worth the upgrade. I have seen this hit the under $15 price point a few times (I think it was selling for $12.99 at one point). So, if you aren't in a hurry to buy, hold out for the next sale.

On CR '67, I haven't heard anything on a Blu-ray release for it.

Thank you! Hmm. I'll probably see if I can find it for on the cheap at some point then.

I appreciate the insight on the video and audio for the Never Say Never Again blu ray!!

+1

Hopefully MGM can get the other Bond films out this year.

I was wondering if they would release the other films with the new 007 racing game and vehicles book in the Fall perhaps.

I'm beginning to think that when the rest of the Bond blu-rays are released then the whole series will be given new packaging, especially as those currently available are now so cheap:

http://www.amazon.co...n...0531&sr=8-1

I tend to only rebuy the series (if I think it is worth it) every 5 years at an absolute minimum. I bought the original DVD collection in 2001, the ultimate DVDs in 2006. I think I'll wait til next year to pick up the blu-rays, hopefully in a repackaged complete set with film poster covers (one can dream.....)

By the way, which Bond blu-ray is the LEAST impressive?

Never Say Never Again.

If you are referring to the EON films then I would probably have to say The World is not Enough. For a film from 1999 it should look better but it does not seem like the Brosnan films were given as much attention in the remastering process i guess. Of the earlier films The Man with the Golden Gun is probably the least impressive but it still looks good.

But the contents of the re-released blu ray disc themslves would be the same, regardless of sleevecovers.

Thanks for the tip on the amazon.co.uk new price; just picked up FRWL which is as the same price as DN. Goldfinger still £10.83??? B)

You're welcome - I must say I am tempted to break my self-imposed 5 year wait because of the amazon prices. Why is GF still nearly £11? Purely becuase it is the definitive Bond film that amazon feel most people will want. I've searched the web and cannot find a new copy for less than a tenner. It's wrong really - I don't remember the DVD being more expensive.

As to your point about the content of the discs being the same: those menu screens were designed and released 4 years ago for the ultimate editions if I'm not mistaken. I've never particularly liked them - the original DVDs had far more unique menus which focussed on aspects of that particular film. What I'm saying is, I think for the Bond 23 release Eon/MGM/whoever will give the Bonds a makeover - new packaging and better menus. I could be wrong of course.

I really like the UE menus. They put time and effort into it, and for a slightly OCD collector like myself it's nice that my films match in every way possible.

Plus some of the menu music/clips are just obscenely good. TLD anyone?

Regarding Amazon and pricing. I understand that they price for the individual. So, you, presumably being a known Bond fan to them (due to your purchase history and search history) will be quoted a higher price than, say, your fictional teenage sister who mostly searches for Twilight novels and films. Try it (I did at work using my PC and a colleagues PC - we got quoted different prices for the same thing).

If that is true then I am staggered! I thought (perhaps naively) that amazon would if anything offer me lower prices because I'm a regular customer. I will put your theory to the test.

Amazon has bundled the previously release films:

http://www.amazon.co...d=21TR5FZS0ALQT

Maybe MGM has forgotten that there are 9 more films left to release?

Hopefully the MGM saga is over soon.
