Maybe MGM has forgotten that there are 9 more films left to release?

They also forgot to release License to Kill and The Man With The Golden Gun in steelbook form.

Sad to day but I doubt we will see these in steelbook. They are typically done by the retailer as a promo to get you to buy the movie at their store. Best Buy had a several month exclusive on these two movies & opted to go with a standard box set instead.

That stinks. I was actually looking at getting those steelbooks after i get a Blu-ray player, but i guess there is no point in getting them now.

There was a crazy deal on Amazon when the first several films were released on blu ray. They were in the individual disc packaging, so I opted for those. I think the packaging is fine on the single disc versions.

I don't care for the individual volume collection box set packaging that I've seen.

The new bundled set of the films would be fine though. This was the set that Costco had for a while.

At any rate, it would be wonderful to get the other 9 films soon.

I just finished watching Live and Let Die on blu ray. Fantastic.

I'm glad I can watch many of the films on blu ray in an HD format. The HD picture and HD sound (DTS HD Master Audio) is fantastic.

Yeah, but since they stopped making them for the new Bond movies coming out on Blu-Ray, they are basically useless, and will stick out like a sore thumb next to the normal packaging. So i guess it's even.

If I recall the steelbooks were a bit extra in cost as well.

The steelbooks really didn't appeal to me at all.

I totally sympathize with those who bought them though.

I wish they would just release a box set of all of the films together. Using individual cases for each title. I would gladly rebuy everything to have the last 9.

After what's happened with the next flick, I'm not expecting more Bond Blu Ray movies for a quite some time.

Annoyingly I sold all my Bond DVD's, to help fund the Blu Ray releases.

Does anyone know if MGM can afford releasing the other Bond films on Blu-Ray? That, at least, would give them the chance to make a little money with the franchise - as long as they still have it.

But somehow I have the feeling that one should wait for the situation to be cleared. Then EON will surely release a BoxSet with every Bond film on Blu-Ray in a new shiny package. Christmas release?

Look at this:

Where has the Blu Ray mock up come from? as far as I am aware, those covers are not used for DVD's...

Not reading into at obviously, just found it odd.

Curious. There is also a similar image for The Living Daylights as well.

One point is that the images do say "2 Disc Ultimate Edition" hich suggests a DVD mock up rather than Blu-ray despite the Blu-ray style as Blu-Ray's are all single disc B)

He does indeed.

I just don't understand how any artist can take pride in that, did they not show the image to their boss?

I'm tempted to think it's done deliberately, so that somewhere down the line, they'll introduce another set, with improved artwork, just to tempt us again.

Must admit, if they used poster artwork (here he goes again, you say), I'd be the first in line, I'd sell what I have, and replace them.

Octopussy and The Living Daylights were reissued on DVD around the time that some of the blu rays were being released in October 2008. MGM really has reissued the Bond films on DVD too many times, IMO. I really hope there is news about the other 9 films on blu ray soon, but could also see it being a long while or until MGM is sorted out.

Octopussy DVD:

The Living Daylights DVD:

I just found a version of On Her Majesty's Secret Service on DVD with new artwork that is different than the Octopussy and Daylights ones too..

Released in 2009??

It also appears The Spy Who Loved Me and Tomorrow Never Dies were released on UMD video for the Sony PSP?

Weren't they originally planning on having the poster artwork as the cover for each movie, but changed their minds?

Don't tease! ha ha B)

Mad decision though, the original artwork alone is enough to draw anyone in, gives it a real classy feel IMO.

As for the LTK lenticular cover, where the hell has that come from? and why was it not done with the other flicks?

Good find.

They will probably release the original artwork as the box art in a few years, most likely for the 50 year anniversary of the film series, which will be in 2012.

I think Wal Mart had the lenticular covers for a while. They may still have them. Not sure.

I believe they did all of the films on DVD with lenticular covers.

like I said before, I really think MGM has gone to the tanks too many times with the Bond films. Maybe the covers helped sell a few more?

anyway. I had forgotten about the white DVD covers from 2008.

The newer ones for Octopussy and The Living Daylights are probably what will be used for the blu rays. Or were going to be used?

I'm starting to wonder if we will see all new releases of the films for blu ray when the MGM / SPECTRE situation is finished being sorted out.

It doesn't sound like there is any priority in finishing the other 9 films extras either. That is on the blu ray releases so far John Cork's team revisited the original documentaries for each films and a few others and recut them in HD for blu ray. That was a really nice addition to the blu ray versions. Not all of the extras were redone, but like I said several of them were.

: )

You might be right.

I actually think we will see the same kind of covers that we've had for the releases of the films dating back to the 1995 VHS and the initial run of the films on DVD.

Either way. I really don't care too much about the covers. I'm good either way. I just want the Bond films in HD with DTS HD Master Audio!

August would be a great release date for the other 9 films on blu ray. Or even in October. The DK books are coming out in the US during those 2 months.

Watching Thunderball blu ray right now.

Oh. I found a news story about the lenticular DVD covers as well:

Great news, but what's with the timing? Sure it's great to SOME new Bond content, but it just seems like they're tossing us a bone, particularly with no Blu-ray mention.

Please don't tell me they are going to pull a George Lucas and tease us by only offering us standard def and then make us wait and wait some more on the Blu-ray.

And I couldn't care less about lenticular packaging. If it's something special I will buy it on standard def, just as I did the CR ultimate edition because that packaging was great and sadly the one thing Blu-ray presentations lack.

I'm guessing the Quantum of Solace DE will be on blu ray and will be very similar to the Casino Royale SE version. At the very least, the alternate ending, commentary with Marc Forster will be included. I'm sure there are some more nice surprises as well. I believe work has been going on for this new version of Quantum for several months now.

Now, if we could just get the other 9 Bond films to blu ray. Especially since it appears Bond 23 will not be starting any time in the foreseeable future.

I am glad a few Bond items are being released this year, even with the lack of a new film. At least we have this title and the 4 DK Bond books. Something anyway...

There was a reissue of Never Say Never Again slated to come in August. Just a repackaging of the current blu ray with a DVD. So blu ray / DVd combo..

Anyway. The title appears to already be in stores. I saw it at Costco and Best Buy today.

I believe there were several other non Bond films that were to be reissued in August as bd / DVD in August. Not sure what titles, but I noted at Costco they had several MGM titles in the BD / DVD combo packs...

It seems MGM is continuing to release some product / titles.

I picked up the fantastic Man With No Name Trilogy on blu ray today. (fistful of dollars, For a Few Dollars More and The Good the Bad The Ugly).

I'm just not sure what the MGM strategy is at this point. Anyway thought I'd pass the news about Never Say Never Again along. I still can't bring myself to buy that one. I have all of the other Bond films on BD though.

Side note about MGM -I see there was another film casualty today. News that The Hobbit is now on hold.
