I was reading the forums over at thehometheaterforum.com and the owner of the site met with 20th Century Fox in mid December and asked them about the status of Bond Blu-rays and got some info but unfortunately he could not say on the forum so he tried to contact someone at Fox to confirm but couldn't. So, he contacted MGM via an email and they responded by saying they promised an update later this week in order for the statement to be official and not rumor.

Hopefully it's good news. But either way at least we will know.

MGM's date for bids is this Friday...

Thanks Joe Bond. I'll cling to any bit of good news/hope. I'm dying to complete my Blu-Ray collection. Let's keep an eye on this.

I've got my fingers crossed but it seems more likely that MGM would announce that all DVD/BD sales are postponed until it's settled.

This is a good website for blu-ray screencaps (several Bond films are on this page if you scroll down, and each movie has hundreds of caps each). I love the fact that they can also be used as desktop backgrounds!

Just finished watching Goldfinger on Blu-ray and was amazed at the quality displayed. The amount of detail I saw was simply amazing from the texture of clothing to the ability to see different blades of grass its gives the viewer an almost transformative experience as if I were actually there. I even noticed a faint scuff like mark on a white tile on the floor of the kitchen where Bond wakes up after being judo chopped by oddjob. Some of the special features were in HD especially the two Patrick Macnee voiced docs which now have HD clips in them which I enjoyed very much. All in all, I feel this had to be a good demo disc for a classic film. Now all I need is the Dr. No and From Russia With Love Blu-ray's. I am actually thinking about getting Live and Let Die on Blu-ray and was wondering what others thought of that films Blu-ray transfer.

I really like Live and Let Die's transfer. It's not as good as Goldfinger's, but I can't imagine anyone being remotely disappointed by it.

It seems MGM never gave a comment on the future of the Bond Blu-rays as they promised to the owner of thehometheaterforums.com and over at their forums he assumed it was due to the uncertainty of the future of MGM which is not surprising. Additionally, his opinion was that since the MGM library is a big part of the MGM sale and the James Bond films are the creme of the crop so they may be holding off on further Blu-rays to have an advantage in the sale as well as that the Bond Blu-ray's didn't do well as expected. I think we won't see any more Blu-ray's until the current MGM sale is completed.

I saw this as well. It is unfortunate.

I wonder if there was increased sales in the current Bond blu rays if it would help a decision by MGM.

The James Bond blu rays were a huge upgrade over the UE DVD's. Both in terms of picture and sound.

I wondered this point too but I get the feeling that just about everything is on hold until they finalize the sale.

If anyone purchases a DVD or Blu-ray solely on the cover art then I feel sorry for them.

The Living Daylignts iTunes HD screenshots:

Here are some screenshots I took of my iTunes HD copy of The Living Daylights. I have to mention that while watching the film there were several instances where I felt like I was watching a modern film rather than one from the late 80's.

Agreed on the covers. I'm not a huge fan of the photoshop ones, but this is what the market now dictates. They appeal and cater to new fans and need to stand out a bit more. It is what it is. I'm just happy to have the films on blu ray!!

Thank you Joe for posting the screenshots of The Living Daylights itunes HD!!!

I've seen some similar customized covers. I do like the look of the novels. Shame we can't get something official that has a nice consistent look across all of them.

I thought the photoshop covers that are on them are pretty consistent?

I love many of the Bond posters, but I again think some of them are pretty dated. I'm sure those 2 reasons are why we have the photoshop ones that we have all grown to love / hate?

Anyway. The wait continues for the last 9..

On the older movies, they do match quite well but it's always the most recent release that never matches those older movies. In the last round of DVDs, it was Die Another Day that didn't match. In the recent round, it's Casino Royale & Quantum of Solace that don't match.

Yes - the region 1 release didn't have that option. So, my criticism is more correctly aimed at the North American market. B)

For those who are interested, Best Buy is having a sale on all of the Bond Blu-ray's for $12.99 a pop and this is online and you can price match in store if needed. If you decide to buy them online there is also a special free shipping deal with them as well.

thanks for the tip! I still need The World Is Not Enough. I'll pick it up this week.

As far as the rest of the films... we will not see them on blu ray until the MGM Studios situation is resolved. Hopefully the MGM matter will come to a head in March (when the interest payments for the studio debt are due) and be resolved.

At that time hopefully there will be an ownership change and the new owners will want to get the other Bond films out on blu ray..

Stay tuned and be patient.

Hey scaramunga, do you own the Blu-ray of For Your Eyes Only and if so how does it compare to the UE DVD because I own the 2 Disc UE and was thinking about getting this one because of this sale. Oh, I did buy Licence to Kill today from Best Buy and the sale is definitely in-store as well plus it seemed they restocked the Bond titles since there were a minimum of 5 copies per title but last week it was more like one.

Hello Joe! I have For Your Eyes Only on blu ray. It looks fantastic too!! Comparison to the UE DVD? The blu ray looks much better. Both in terms of picture and sound. Do you have any specific questions about FYEO blu ray?

I must say for all of the Bond films on blu ray this is the best I have ever seen the films on any format. I can't say enough about the picture and also the DTS HD Master Audio tracks. I've never heard the films so clean and clear in terms of audio and picture.

Here's a review with some decent screen caps:

http://www.dvdbeaver...two_blu-ray.htm

and one with a more technical review of the sound and picture.

http://bluray.highde...ureyesonly.html

Despite the review, I think it sounds and looks amazing. Certainly, as the review states, the best it has ever looked.

Note - I put the film on as well, as I am typing this. Blu ray really brings out the clarity of image and the clarity of the audio. Especially when a film is properly scanned and remastered like the Bond films were. Plus the great work by Mi Casa sound on the new audio tracks.

Great stuff.

I ordered The World Is Not Enough from Best Buy. So I'm all set now until MGM (or the new MGM) releases more of the official films. I'll pass on Never Say Never Again. I have that one on VHS and that's good enough. The official films are all purchases for me though. : )

Update. Here's one more from The Digital Bits. I usually pay attention to the technical parts of disc reviews for sound and picture.

http://www.thedigita...ndhd02.html#for

I guess most of the 80's Bond films used a somewhat flat film stock? At any rate, I think For Your Eyes Only looks amazing on blu ray. Plus top marks for the sound too.
