Interesting move by Best Buy with the exclusive box set.

Have they fixed the poor packaging from the earlier sets?

http://www.dvdtown.c...packaging-/6051

I will pay more to have normal blu ray cases, but that's just me.

Is this the first time a new release has been in with previous Bond movies?

Yes that I can remember. Though Volume 2 of the Special Edition DVDs in 2000 had a space for the The World is not Enough DVD.

Best Buy seems to increasingly have these exclusive deals. They also (along with Target) have a Blu-ray of "Twilight" on the shelves this weekend, months before other retailers will.

Interesting move with releasing the movies early. The box looks cool but, as usual, it doesn't match any of the other boxes that have already been released. B)

Is it known whether the packaging will be a box with 3 individual blu ray cases or will it be like the other released blu ray box sets?

The box looks quite thick. So I'm guessing that there will be three individual cases inside. The Man with the Golden Gun and Licence to Kill matching with the rest of the classic collection and Quantum of Solace.

Too much of a good thing in my view. I'm prepared for GF, MR and TWINE (well, maybe not so much that one), QoS and NSNA. I like it more when they are spaced out a bit, giving me something to look forward to.

Agreed Turn.

It also helps the wallet when they are spaced out as well.

B)

Being a big Roger Moore fan, I may have to pick up the Best Buy exclusive set then if it does indeed have individual blu ray cases rather than the cardboard inserts that the other box sets have used.

If it is similar to the other previous box sets, I can wait until May to pick them up.

D: Slightly off topic but Netflix has Twilight for rental. Mine is in the mail as I type. . . Plus, I thought Twilight was a national release this weekend--certainly enough commericals on TV.

Looking forward to the new Blus, he said, in an effort to get back on topic.

The titles are available separately for pre-order on Amazon.co.uk, but still no boxed set yet.

No, certain chain stores did a deal with the distributor to sell the "Twilight" Blu-ray earlier than everyone else...Don't believe me? Try ordering it on Amazon. B)

Recieved both TWINE and MR in the post today. Moonraker looks great. The image seems appreciably sharper and cleaner than the UE DVD (which also means the models and the back projection look worse). TWINE is also an improvement, but somewhat less it seems. It could be due to an early digital intermediate being used for TWINE with a low scan rate.

The one incredibly annoying item is both contain a horizontally squeezed title sequence. Squeezing the title sequence used to be a technique used for VHS and DVD because standard definition cathode ray tube TVs tend to overscan and crop the edges of the images. Therefore by squeezing the image and titles on the edges would not be cropped. The problem is that it distorts the image, in Moonraker's case significantly.
HDTVs don't overscan or crop images at all so this particular type of butchering is completely unneccesary for Blu-Ray releases. This is basic stuff - does no one at MGM and EON who oversee these releases have a functioning brain?

Interesting info about Moonraker. I'm glad to hear that Moonraker is looking good aside from the titles..

Would you be able to post a comparison on the Moonraker titles??

I plan on picking up Moonraker on Tuesday.

I will probably see if Best Buy has the exclusive Quantum / LTK and TMWTGG box set as well. I may pick that one up as well if the packaging uses individual cases vs how the other blu ray box sets have been.

Den of Geek has reviews of Quantum (DVD), Moonraker (blu ray) and Goldfinger (blu ray)

Yeah WTF indeed. A return to the VHS era with squeezed titles. I was hoping for an almost perfect set of films this time around that would overcome all the problems of the UE's. I give up!

Received / watched my QOS Blu-Ray yesterday and happy to report it looks and sounds stunning.

However....

Is it me or does it have a completely different "look" to what it did at the cinema? Having scene it several times on the big screen, I recalled the film having a grainy, "cold steel" aesthetic but it now seems to have a more elegant, classical look with softer colours. As I've said it's very nice but (unless my memory is faulty) it's not an accurate reproduction; is this an accident or something more, as it now looks much more like CR and a lot less like the Bourne sequals......? B)

If you have UE DVDs then it is exactly the same master used. The squeezed versus unsqueezed titles comparison an be seen in the special features section under Mission Control '007'
They also squeezed Thunderball, but it is more noticeable with MR and TWINE both because the amount of squeeze is greater and both these title sequence contain globes and circles etc. where the distortion is most evident

Notice the black borders on the side of the image of the squeezed titles, and how the matte around the girl is oval rather than a circle

Anyone know of the cheapest place to get the Blu-Rays in the UK?

Do they do them in a steel case? or was that just a milicuous rumour?
