Goldfinger looks great. What a contrast in picture quality to the Special Edition DVD's. Man, it wasn't all that long ago that I can remember getting those SE's home when they were the state of the art.
The Special Edition DVDs of 1999 and 2000 were hailed at the time for setting a new benchmark in quality and special features. This was in the days when most DVDs just featured some fluff promotional Making of feature, a trailer and some cast and crew bios.
I am looking forward to diving into the Goldfinger and Moonraker Blu-rays later this month.

Great covers for LTK and Golden Gun too. I'm looking forward to those 2 in May!

Also, for those interested, back covers for the new Blu-ray's has been revealed. Haven't been able to find QoS, though. But here's the links:
Goldfinger
Moonraker
TWINE
Collection
NSNA
And note how Moonraker still seems to run about 5 minutes or so short. It should be around 126 or 127, not 121, a problem that appeared on the previous Ultimate Edition's)

I read on another Bond site (MI6) that Quantum of Solace may be packaged with License To Kill and The Man With the Golden Gun in May.
This doesn't seem that smart of a move. QoS appeals to the casual Bond fans who may have just picked up on the franchise, but TMWTGG and LTK I really don't see attracting anyone but true Bond lovers. I understand slipping one less popular movie in with a set of 3 so it sells, but two?
It would make more sense for them to package QoS with Goldeneye (or Tomorrow Never Dies) and any one of Moore or Connery's more popular movies.
I might be missing something here though, I'm not sure what exactly is the perfect formula for a boxset, but this really doesn't seem to be it.

I WANT a UK release for Never Say Never Again!
With any luck the Region A release is a region-free release

I very much doubt it will be. All the American Bond's are strictly region A. Where as all the European Bond's are region A,B,C, go figure. That's why I have a Blu-ray player chipped for multi-region. The only way to go.With any luck the Region A release is a region-free release

Same here, was looking forward to this one, heard it was being released close to the QOS Blu Ray, so went to pre-order it at the weekend, and could not find it.
Now I know why, it's US only for now.

They are indeed at their original 24 frames per second. You'll just need a Blu-ray Disc player that is capable at outputting 1080/24 and a HDTV that can accept and display 24P. Then you can finally enjoy the films without the PAL 4% speed up or the NTSC telecine judder that Americans have had with their DVDs of films over the years. Lovely jubbley.Havnt had much time to fully investigate blue ray. Does anyone know if a UK blue ray disc is transfered at the correct speed, like a region one NTSC DVD or is it the same as a region two PAL system and transfered faster. I don't want to buy UK releases unless they play the correct speed!

How come fullscreen editions of the Bonds aren't available on Blu-ray in the States the way they are on DVD?
If I understand it correctly, it's because the HD transfer of the films on Blu-ray is always done in the original aspect ratio to provide the best picture quality. I don't believe that the Blu-ray manufacturers use the 4:3 standard full screen ratio because it defeats the purpose of the HD transfer in the first place, which is generally 16:9 (not always, but that's one of the more common ratios).

All the HDTVs I have come across are widescreen.
If you had a fullscreen Blu-ray you would have black bars on either side of the picture.

Why would I pay £16 to watch a film with image missing that doesn't reflect what the director wanted me to see? Just buying a full screen film sends the studios a message that you'd rather "see the black bars go away" than learn about how they're preserving the film's original shape. That, I think is a shame for the customers, who may simply be uneducated in what the black bars really do, and for the film makers, because they can't show people their films as they're meant to be seen.
Blu-ray Discs are natively 16:9, so any 4:3 films, like Pinocchio, will have black bars on the left and right.
An example of what fullscreen does: http://en.wikipedia....n7BridesPan.gif

Agreed. For too long IMO we have been cheated by the video industry with substandard transfers, poorly pan and scan work, incorrect framing etc etc. Not to mention my pet hate of the PAL colour system speeding up the film, so the title songs sound in the wrong pitch and all the actors voices are a notch higher than real life. In my mind you would not go to the cinema and put up with such things, so why should we when we buy a film. Glad we finally have a format that does justice to the efforts of film makers. Why would I pay £16 to watch a film with image missing that doesn't reflect what the director wanted me to see?

Less than a week to go.
I'm counting down the days. I even look forward to the Sunday paper to see the display ads.
I can't wait either. At least the wait now is much shorter than it used to be. If I remember correctly, DAD came out in either late May or early June of the following year, roughly six months after its theatrical release. At least now we're only waiting roughly 3 or 4 months with new releases. But it's still hard to wait for great films like QoS to finally arrive.

As with HD-DVD when they were out, Blu-ray's present the movie in its original aspect ratio so there are no chopped-up pan & scan versions of the movies out there. Besides, watching a Blu-ray on an old 4:3 square TV would be a lot like listening to the Beatles without earmuffs. How come fullscreen editions of the Bonds aren't available on Blu-ray in the States the way they are on DVD?
