Anyone had a chance to play Arkham City yet? Just finished the main story tonight. Absolutely brilliant! I ADORE Mark Hammils Joker, too. I would actually go as far to say that he's probably the strongest incarnation.

Don't be so quick to say that. Mark Hamill is on record saying this will be his final performance as the Joker, which lends credence to the possibility of the character actually being dead. And remember that these games take place outside of the comic book and Nolan film universes, so the creators can pretty much kill off anyone they want and get away with it.Spoiler

I wonder if Arkham 3 will be based around The Riddler, then. He does seem to be the next big bad in line. Plus, I really wouldn't mind it set during the day in some parts, too.

Good ideas. I'm fine with them killing off the Joker. Since we're not getting a Nolan-ized Riddler, a third Arkham game centered around the Riddler would give us a chance to finally see the character done justice.Yeah, I know Hamill said he was retiring. He's such a fantastic character, though. Perhaps he could be... persuaded back.

FWIW, the end credits of ARKHAM CITY make it pretty clear that the follow-up will have something to do with

Amazing game, by the way. The sequel will also clearly deal with the identity thief subplot and whoever the hell that other guy was. Azrael I think was his name.

Sounds like an appropriate title for the inevitable sequel would be Arkham City 2: Seed of Puddin'.

On a similar note, I think we need to go back to the days of Batman being a bit more reliant on his gadgetry and weapons. As I write this, I realize that there are some obvious parallels here to the backlash "CR" and "QOS" received with a demand for Q to be brought back. I would say the biggest difference here is that, unlike Bond, Batman is a self-funded hero and should have as many weapons and tools at his disposal as he wants. What's important, though, as that they strike that key balance between the ingenuity of Batman's gadgets and the genius of his own mind by showcasing his unrivaled detective skills, which, for the most part, have been neglected in the films, save for "THE DARK KNIGHT".
Lastly, I feel one of the most radical changes for the next film series should be its handling of Batman's allies. Rather than putting us through yet another Batman origin story, I really believe that not only Batman, but the rest of his gang--Robin, Nightwing, Barbara Gordon, etc.--should already be firmly established by the first film. As it stands, even the most casual Batman fans know who Nightwing and Barbara Gordon are, and Robin is a given to anyone with any basic knowledge of pop culture. The "X-Men" films proved that, if done right, comic books films can juggle a large cast of both heroes and villains. As long as the focus remains on Batman, I see no reason why his allies cannot be portrayed and utilized correctly.

Hamill has said that before. I think it's how he feels at the time. Just a few days ago he said on his twitter account he'd 'come back' for The Killing Joke. Like Mharkin, I think there's a way around this if they want Joker back. The next game will most likely be another two/three years away and feelings can change in that time.Don't be so quick to say that. Mark Hamill is on record saying this will be his final performance as the Joker, which lends credence to the possibility of the character actually being dead. If it was two Clayface Jokers in the final fight, I'd say this is a Joker scheme to fake his death. Joker did say the only way to outwit the world's greatest detective was to be obvious, or something like that.
Another angle is the cure was spilled onto the floor - and as we know Joker has a bit of it. We don't know how potent it is. Maybe he 'died' but a portion of cure was in his system and thus took longer to kick in. An hour later or whatever in the morgue, he wakes up...
I've been grappeling around the city after the story, and you hear goons talk about Joker's demise. Interesting comments. One guy pretty much shrugs it off, saying he's died before. And how Joker must have tricked Batman.
Ras Al Ghul plunged his sword into his own chest, fell on that gate from a great height - and Batman commented to Oracle that he'll be needing a Lazarus Pit. And I suppose Joker (and Talia) could be thrown in a pit if any other loopholes are out of the question. I cannot see how Hugo Strange survives a full on explosion, though. He's dead as a doornail.
Anyway, Batman thinks Joker is dead. And pretty much so do we. The angle of who takes over in a post Joker Gotham can be explored in Arkham 3. And if Hamill can be pursuaded, the clown prince could return at the end to mix that new equilibrium up again. It depends on what happened to his body when Batman walked out with him. And if it was even him (!).
Agreed on Azrael and Hush as the next villains, going on what went down in the side missions. During the main story I wondered what people thought about Bruce Wayne going into Arkham City. If he would survive long, or if he even got out. Well, how that was 'addressed' via Hush was very clever and awesome.

It would be interesting to get a game that takes place twenty or so years in the future, with an aging Batman going up against the Joker's son, and a story & environment similar to Frank Miller's classic "THE DARK KNIGHT RETURNS". I'm sure it would never happen, but one can dream...Anyway, Batman thinks Joker is dead. And pretty much so do we. The angle of who takes over in a post Joker Gotham can be explored in Arkham 3. Some nice foreshadowing in Arkham City btw. At the start of the game when you trace the Jokers gun back to the church, and Joker tells you to get out and has rigged the place with explosives. If you stay there past the 5 second countdown, he says something like "Come on Bats, clocks ticking. Fine stay, but I bet you can't resist. You know one of these days I think it's going to be one of us just looking down at the others dead corpse and wondering what to do next, but the question is, who's corpse will it be."

If it's a fake, it's a very convincing one.
Spoiler
I believe there was a rumor floating around at some point that indicated we'd see a young Ras al Ghul training a much younger Bane as a member of the League of Shadows. Perhaps we will see a meeting between Ras and Bane just before Ras leaves for Gotham (set during "Batman Begins") with Ras having somehow caught wind that Wayne is still alive and starting to wreak vengeance on Gotham. This could be when Bane learns of Batman's existence.

If it somehow turns out that this is the opening of the film, then my enthusiasm for this project (which was pretty high, as I was very interested in seeing Bane brought to the screen in a serious manner) has taken a nosedive.
