Me likey the new TV spot.

I remember this from one of the old Indy and the "Saucer Men" scripts -- by Jeffery Boam, I think?

It's by Jeb Stuart. And KINGDOM OF THE CRYSTAL SKULL ultimately takes a lot from the SAUCER MEN script.

QFT.

I do like the variation on the car chase though, as it stood in the Saucer Men script there wasnt to much to distinguish it from any other car chases.

I also like the new angle that the Cold War brings:

I take it that we've all seen that Trailer 2 is available to download from IndianaJones.com? And very lovely it is too!

If you have RealPlayer, the new version has a very handy gadget which allows you to download and keep any movie file you watch. That's how I've done it, anyway! Sorry!

Seeing it in higher quality makes it even better. Pretty film (though it's very clear that it's not the same cinematographer as on the original three).

Saw it at the theater with Iron Man (fun flick). Seeing Indy on the big screen for the first time was a pretty big deal for me. It looked great. As Harms(I can call you that, right?)said it definitely has a unique look from the previous three, but still feels distinctively Indy to me.

That's what they call me.

...said it definitely has a unique look from the previous three, but still feels distinctively Indy to me.

Oh, it's still definitely Indy, and you can see that they're imitating the style of the previous films (Spielberg and Kaminski really tried to capture it), but it's not quite there. But that's fine... I actually think it stll feels very Indiana Jones, and is very well-shot, to boot.

I think it's quite there, when the new remasters of the three previous are available in HD, I bet they will all look about the same. So far, people can only base this on the available DVDs, which are fine but dated.

Not really... the DVD transfers and the restoration work still hold up. They're gorgeous. No matter how much you upgrade them, they're never going to have the sheen that KINGDOM OF THE CRYSTAL SKULL does, because the lighting and framing are just different.

Anyway, I pretty much spoiled myself rotten over the last 24 hours. It's good and bad. It's good, because I like everything I know, but it's bad because I'm damn sure it's going to be a pretty controversial flick. I'm going to offer a word of caution to everyone getting prepared for this film (I mention a brief spoiler that most anyone knows if they've been following this film in any capacity):

Looking at the CRYSTAL SKULL trailers, I hate this "sheen" you mention. It's very chocolate box and reminds me of the visuals of the STAR WARS prequels at their worst, only somehow even more annoying (for CRYSTAL SKULL doesn't have the excuse of being set on other planets).

An Indiana Jones film should look like KING KONG. But not Jackson's KING KONG.

Anyways, I love that spoiler you reveal, Harmsway. I promise you that without it I'd be about as up for CRYSTAL SKULL as I would be for another POLICE ACADEMY. What will presumably ruin the film for some has saved it for me.

I basically agree, but I don't mind it too much. I really liked how Jackson's KING KONG looked.

Yeah. I don't think the film's going to get a huge backlash by the public at large - I think the adventure still brings the classic Indy elements, and the general public are much easier to please than us criticial internet types - but I do think that those who are very against the idea will be upset by how boldly KINGDOM wears its 1950s era influence (though I do wonder whether it won't be quite bold enough for your tastes).

It's interesting you say that, becuase I went to see Iron Man with a buddy and he wasnt impressed with the Indy trailer at all. Yet after revealing that spoiler to him, he's as excited as you are Loomis.

By far the most interesting storyline of the Indy sequels. I can't wait and this is from a huge Indy 4 sceptic.

I entirely agree. I think it's actually a terrific move and a great way to make INDY IV distinctive from the rest, rather than just a retread. But it's been met by some pretty vehement opposition elsewhere.

I would think a confirmed Alien visitation which influenced a human culture thousands of years ago would qualify as supernatural. There's plenty of mythology to make this story work brilliantly.I really hope they go for broke with this premise.

Ah, I see.

It still seems in keeping with the other three in that all four of them have plot points which heavily deal with the metaphysical and non-human world - as well as the acquisition of power associated with them by evil humans bent on world domination. Kinda like a James Bond villian without the hokus-pokus mumbo-jumbo.

I agree. Some folks just have a very narrow idea of what constitutes an "Indiana Jones adventure" (just like some folks have a very narrow idea of what constitutes a "James Bond adventure").

Jimmy, you are correct. People make up their minds before they even see a movie. It is mind boggling to understand why, if someone hates a film (or foolishly knows they will hate a film), would one continually post messages about how opposed they are.

I like to think here people have a good sense of fairness. For me May 22nd can't come soon enough. Good or bad, I'll be there, and I will be objective. That's what's important.

Yeah. It's a gut reaction (which I had at one time, to be honest).

But I really think KINGDOM OF THE CRYSTAL SKULL is handling it very well. Mysterious, engaging... even Lovecraftian in how they've developed it. I think the general public will be drawn in. In fact, I think KINGDOM OF THE CRYSTAL SKULL ultimately has more in common with H.P. Lovecraft than it does with 1950s sci-fi (perhaps the next Indy adventure should be INDIANA JONES AND THE MOUNTAINS OF MADNESS  ).

It's only the intense fans who'll rant and rave about it and refuse to see its merits (as Lucas predicted many-a-time in interviews).

The men in white from the loonie bin need to come for the 'intense fans'. These 'fans' are probably in their 30s, i'd imagine? No life, I suppose...

Personally speaking, I'm in two minds about the extra-terrestrial aspects of this film (presumably, that means I've got no life, as well). But we'll see how it pans out.

Wasn't the Bible full of strange sighting in the air?. Egyptian hieroglyphics have space crafts in tombs dating back to thousands of years.

Surely a movie with a producer who loves to pull our pockets and with a 65 year old lead actor playing the lead role, surely we can believe in little green men.

Hey. It's a new Indy film.

Your wildest dream--or worst nightmare--may possibly come true...if a rather weirdly worded remark in our local paper is, in fact, a veiled prediction:

The reference was to Connery's 'reported non-appearance' in IJATK...

Now, Lucas and Spielberg have kept pretty darned near everything under the tightest wraps. So:

Is there any chance in hell that Con will pop in for visit?
