Very solid trilogy, and I'd rank it above the original Star Wars and Bourne trilogies(the latter also is a very solid trilogy)

As far as trilogies are concerned, I would find it hard to surpass Bourne.

If I say this five times in quick succession and wave a pendulum at you, any chance you would revise your assessment?

Well, I must admit that I prefer Sergio Leone's 'Dollar Trilogy' ; A Fistful of Dollars, For a Few Dollars More and The Good, The Band and The Ugly, over the Bourne movies. So there are, for me, few trilogies that are much better, or let's say dear, than this new Bourne trilogy is.

I'd put it this way ; 'Dollar' and Indy Trilogy > Bourne Trilogy.

But I can't really say which one I prefer more. I've liked both trilogies since I was a young lad.

I quite agree.

Not only are the Indy movies better than Bourne, but they are far more memorable as well. It also doesn't help that each Bourne plot is the same.

I really like how the Indiana Jones theme never gets old. They used the original for the trailer. How many remixes has the Bond theme gone through, I know it was to keep with the times but with Indy it seems to never age.

Yet... this trailer just feels like it could have been an "event"--at least, that seemed to be what numerous sites were making of it--but doesn't quite cut it. I felt just a little underwhelmed.

I have to agree Qwerty. I was expecting (perhaps hoping) to be blown away with how great the new film looked.

It's Indy so I'm there, but I just expected to be more pumped up about it than I am.

I think we're making this into an event. The last Indy movie was 19 (!) years ago. If it was only 2 or 3 years ago I doubt we'd be hyping it up this huge.

Though you gotta admit, the Episode I teaser...now that was an event

I guess Indy for me is something I left behind as I grew up, whereas Bond somehow seems to still appeal. I wonder if there is something inherent in each franchise - that Indy is, like Star Wars, inherently aimed at the younger crowd whereas Bond is designed to have a much wider appeal?

James Bond is wish fulfilment for anyone who is 12 to 72 in the REAL world we live in. The others...well, those worlds don't exist.

I can go buy a rolex, drive a fast BMW, wear a finely tailored suit, travel to The Bahamas and get laid by a hot chic, even two. There's a reality to that. Running around with a light sabre or swinging via a whip with a hat on while you're a grandpa, well, is not. You're talking loonie bin territory there.

For a 12 year old?
Are you suggesting a 12 year old can do these things more readily than a grandparent can swing around on a whip?

I sincerely hope not. My twin boys are 15*.

I expect swinging around on a whip probably is wish fulfilment for some grandparents so I'm not sure that the distinction holds.

*given this, and the state of youthery today, I expect to be a grandparent very soon. I fancy swinging around on a whip and chinning a Nazi or a Commie. Looking forward to doing that rather a lot, actually.

No. I'm suggesting a 12 year old can aspire to it. In fact, I was once a 12 year old watching Bond and I managed to full those wishes. I dont know about you but I never imagined being able to fire up my X wing off the launch pad, blaster in hand and fight off the bad guys on the far side of Endor.

I'm suggesting that even an adult, if they work hard enough at it, can fulfil those wishes.

As for swinging off a whip at 65...well I'd have a more dignified retirement than that...sunbathing on a beach or on some ski slope somewher or golfing. I'll leave the fighting of Nazis and Communists to you.

The look of the trailer is what I expected (or maybe it was what I was hoping for). The hat on the ground, the silhouette on the door, the action, humor, & music were all perfect. I can't wait until opening night.

The music used to open the trailer is a Brian Tyler’s cue from CHILDREN OF DUNE, which in turn is very similar (too similar for legal comfort?) to the Aftermath cue from the Deep Blue Sea score by Trevor Rabin.

hmmm...so we went from desert(Raiders), to Jungle(TOD), back to desert(LC) and now it apears we're back to jungle...Some mountains and snow would have been nice, or even a beach  I agree, the trailer didn't have my eyes popping out of their sockets like i expected. Although it WAS still pretty good...hopefully number 2 and the theatrical will be alot better

That is just odd. Look at the last shot where the guns are being held at different angles. Everything else about the shots are the same, so it can't be a different take. What do you think, a little digital manipulation?

I love the Bournes and won't hear a bad word about them, but I'd have to rank Indy above them. For one thing it's part of Hollywood history more; it's Spielberg and Raiders was amongst the first crop of blockbusters. Indy's an icon of the movies and Bourne isn't just yet.

Definitely; a bit silly, really. Not so sad about the flag going, Indy was never that jingoistic before.

I have to say I absolutely loved the teaser trailer, I was amazed that it practically looked like it was made few years after Crusade instead of 19 years later. Yes, it didn't really show a whole lot but it was just enough to let you know that, yes, Indy is still Indy despite the years, and he is back. To those that were a bit disappointed I think it was inevitable, and I also think its inevitable that people will be disappointed with the film itself because of the ammount of time that was left to build up the hype, I mean, look at Star Wars. The hype was huge and it seems the prequels are nearly universally hated. I know i was let down by episode I at first, so much so I only saw it once at the theater, (which is a big deal since I'm a huge Star Wars fan) and now after they've all been made I actually love them. So I guess what I'm saying is that don't judge it definitevely at first. Definitely go see it a couple more times.

Scandal ! The trailer as CGI erased guns and whatnot in much the same way as E.T. it seems Spielberg is going psychotic and cleaning up the movie he just shot

The guns were erased because the MPAA as a rule about guns pointing at people in trailers. So they had to quickly digitally correct it. It has nothing to do with Spielberg "fixing" the film.

Yes, trailers are rated like anything else. Red tag trailers can only run with R rated movies, Green tag trailers can run with anything. They probably erased the guns to make sure they got a Green tag. No big deal.
