I'm glad your response was not as wooden yet sarcastic as the good Dr Goodhead.

Well, one must admit that your powers of observation on this subject are quite limited on the Internet! "Nobody knows you're a dog"... or a woman

So the latest report (Comingsoon.net) reveals that the car chase ends with a gunfight?? Did we know that? I might have missed that in earlier reports. And that begs to wonder if the gunbarrel scene (might) be a part of that opening sequence and preceeds the titles like in Casino Royale???

Interesting! There was a mention of the villains shooting at Bond, especially in the marble quarries, but indeed I don't remember any mention of how the chase is going to end.

Funny fact: some QoS scenes are going to be filmed in the village of Altagnana, next to Carrara.
La Nazione reports that the producers have asked a monumental statue installed in 2005 in memory of the Italian partisans (photo below) to be temporarily removed from the city square, during filming. But the sculptor Brunello Pucci, through his lawyer, applies himself to forbid this.

Will the statue make it to the silver screen, or will it be CGIed? Time will tell!

Good news about the statue: the local artist and the production found an agreement, reports La Nazione. The statue will be moved for a few days only, during the filming. All is well that ends well!

Yes, it makes me think of the result you get when you put solvent rich glue on polystyrene and it melts through.

The very active Italian website www.jamesbondwebitalia.com produces a bond BondTV series of clips on YouTube, and they have just released a series of interviews made by webmaster Ilario Citton on the shores of the Lake Garda, presumably during the Quantum of Garda event about one week ago:

* Interview with line producer Guido Cerasuolo (in Italian)
part 1:
part 2:

* Interview with stunt coordinator Gary Powell (translated into English)
part 1: (Powell appears at 3:43)
part 2: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_8X_G5TfVh8

* Meeting with Raymond Benson
part 1: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d2rtoE5OHNk
part 2: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_Mi_uz2mSRE

I'll try to transcript some bits of the Cerasuolo interview.

The hell of a lot of articles about QoS in the Tuscan press lately. I don't have enough energy to read all this today, but feel free to consult the oriinal articles here:
http://www.mediateca...6Aprile2008.pdf
and here:
http://www.mediateca...8Aprile2008.pdf

Filming began last weekend both in Talamonaccio and near Carrara, so there's a lot to tell and show (some pics in the PDF).

An interesting bit about the press conference announced in Carrara: it will take place on May 5th in the morning, with:
- Ugo di Tilio, president of the Mediatheca Regionale Toscana Film Commission
- Angelo Zubbani, Lord Mayor of Carrara
- Anthony Waye, executive producer
- Dan Bradley, second unit director
- Guido Cerasuolo, line producer
The work done in the Apuan Alps will be illustrated with some footage of the backstage.
Delicious local food will also be served, but I guess this is none of our business!

I think there's still 2nd unit work in the surroundings of Carrara (but I haven't seen new photos since the aforementioned articles, or videos), then they'll finish filming in Siena (again) mid-May. But as far as I understand, D Craig has now moved to Austria?

Well yes he is in Austria. I wonder if they have been able to finish filming in Garda after the accidents or have the scriot changed a little ?

There was only a day left of planned shooting after the car crash occurred, so it hopefully shouldn't influence the production in too negative a way: http://commanderbond.net/article/5083

Hi there!
Besides the fake Palio, there are some ongoing works on Piazza del Campo in Siena these days, to add some stairs to the Gaia Fountain... Jacopo della Quercia must be spinning in his grave ! The purpose of these stairs is to add a fake trap-door at the top of the four stairs so that Bond can pop out of it, as it was impossible to make him pop out of the real entrance of the bottini, in front of the restaurant Il Mangia.
The filming will take place untim May 19th, involving some thousands of extras (for the Palio crowd). The extras are convoked at 4 am, and filming will last all the day, for at least 3 days!
Source: Corriere di Siena, May 13th 2008, p. 3 of the PDF, with a photo of the Piazza and the new stairway to the fountain.
For those interested, I posted earlier in this thread some pics and links to see what this fountain looks like.

Just thinking: it's a bit of a shame they didn't use these quarries for a some free climbing scenes (Hannes Oberhauser homage, etc etc ).

Those cars are totally smashed. The Aston isn't looking too good either. Quite frightening.

Wow! Those pics are totally amazing! Thanks my dear MkB!

The pulse is certainly racing again!

So it looks like the Aston's driver side door is torn off during the chase somewhere along the tight winding roads of Lake Garda and the chase ends when Bond crashes in the marble quarries and the airbag deploys.

The gunfight then transpires, I suppose. But who's left to shoot at? The two pursuing cars have been well and truly totalled and crushed and, supposedly, so have the baddies in them!

Perhaps there's one more pursuing car? And that's why they have the shootout?

Is Mr White tied up nice and tight and snug in the back of that Aston? I mean there's not much room in the back of that car other than for a set of golf clubs. :(

Yes. Upon closer examination one can clearly see a fully intact albeit dusty Alfa in the final shot (pic 9 of 9) as well as in the less revealing second last shot (pic 8 of 9).

So that's the car from which the passengers get a passage into oblivion courtesy of the bullets from 007's Walther.

I cannot imagine a manner in which a door gets ripped off a car during a chase that is not pretty dang exciting. I hope this is shot and edited well, it could be one of the best car chases in the series.

Yes. The same was also said back in the Winter of 01/02 until Tamahori and Tattersal messed around with the footage Vic Armstrong's Second Unit came up with in Iceland.

In terms of the door getting torn clean off...It could happen while Bond is trying to get in/out of the Aston and the police or a Quantum operative tries to run him over and crush him into the next world.

Those shots look very promising! Can't wait to see the final result. The caveat is always that great ideas and locations (and shooting) can easily be squandered in edititing. But at least it looks like the concept is great!
