I believe it is likely to be a sequel of sorts yep. Perhaps the season will end with a few loose ends which need to be tied up. I would think that the next season will also be set in Washington DC, particularly given the characters we know to be returning.

Interestingly, just been reading a few things, and a trustworthy source who has already seen Season 7 has just posted the following:
I'm not going to say why, but I was thinking it might be even sooner than that, like a few hours or days instead of a few weeks.
I feel we have a huge season cliff-hanger in the offing...

As for Anil Kapoor, if that piece of news is accurate, I would be surprised if he was a major villain for the season. It's possible that he is not even a villain at all of course! Personally, I'd like the Starkwood/government conspiracy to span Seasons 7 and 8.

Agreed on that last part. Jon Voight has been doing a terrific job playing his character.

And you posted about that Indian actor being cast for next season, does that give a clue as to a possible location, or angle that the story will take, I wonder. An Indian villain would be fresh, unless they've hired him to play a generic Muslim character or something.

Update on this. I've read an article saying that Anil Kapoor will play an Indian intelligence officer. Not sure on its veracity though.

Tony is in there, can't find anything else that really makes sense at the moment.

Yep, keep running with that:

TONY -------- -- --------

Only a few hours for you lucky people in the US. I've seen a couple of reviews for the last part of the season - one which says that your heart won't stop racing for about half an hour after episodes 16, 17 and 18; the other descibes the final episode as the most important series finale ever. Make of that what you will!

Only about an hour to go for us folks on the east coast! In the meantime, here is an interview with Kiefer that I came across today. No spoilers on this season.

Another great episode! Still don't see how Olivia fits into the main plot. That may be the only "crack" in the season so far, but that's all I'll say for now for those who have not seen tonight's episode yet.

The shift in quality from the pre-writers strike eps and now is astonishing. The actors seem to have even stepped up their game. This season is definitely going down as one of the best. Do we know when they start to shoot next seasons episodes?

More likely a founding member of a Blackwater organization.

Since I live in the Washington area and work only a few blocks from the locations they have filmed for Season 7, there appears to be no shooting in DC for Season 8. Fox is looking elsewhere, but never say never.

Correct!

Fantastic cliffhanger to another excellent episode. I genuinely think Jack was exposed to the weapon, and I think he's going to become increasingly incapacitated as we reach the end of the season.

Hard to tell what her angle is at this point but I do think that crack may begin to close in the next few episodes.

Maybe. But from the scene with Jon Voight standing in a laboratory with a bunch of scientists standing around, I think they need to do something to "wake up" the bio-weapon before it can be effective. Maybe Bauer got a low dose of it.

And when will Kim Bauer be making her surprise appearance? Unless they've dumped her entire plot on the cutting room floor, I'm guessing that Voight has her kidnapped to keep Jack under his thumb. This will work neatly with Renee being able to see that he does have feelings after all B)

Ok, after talking to someone inside Fox, here is what's going to happen...

Jack has been exposed to 'air', and will become increasingly dependent on it.

Renee will marry Larry Moss in an outdoor wedding, and Jack (who is best man) will shoot Larry in the foot by mistake.

President Taylor will hold e-seminars in the Oval Office, in an attempt to connect with younger voters.

Agent Pierce brings Bill back from the dead in a voodoo ritual.

And- the big surprise... Starkwood turns out to be a dummy holding company for Disney World!

I'm sure this is accurate! B)

I can do, but if you'd like to watch it for yourself, I believe it's available in the United States at Hulu?

Alternatively, this is the episode summary from Fox:
