Well, from the press release, general information and, now, the rear cover and advertisement art I think we can all be a little saddened by the bonus content we'll be getting.
(Those other images can be found here, BTW: http://www.dvdactive...ino-royale.html )
'Over 90 minutes of extras' is the nail in the coffin for me. That print ad is selling the DVD as best it can, and the runtime matches the paltry collection of bonus features we've already heard about. Which, along with the back cover, suggests...well, that really is all we're going to get.
No trailers, no new documentaries, no commentaries, no deleted scenes. It's a rush-release to capitalise on the great box office run. It's a smart business move, of course - and a pretty much cast-iron guarantee of a special edition to follow later on (which, place bets now, might include reversable cover art to match the Ultimate Editions). But what it's not, sadly, is a DVD for the fans.
The double-dip is likely, I think, and it's sad to be pre-ordering this DVD knowing I'll be paying for it again at the end of the year. I'm left hoping for an Ultimate Edition to follow with an extended 'director's cut'.
But, well, if wishes were Bond girls... :-)

I think that's a safe assumption. Still, whereas my eventual print review will give the movie top marks, the DVD special features that are included will really have to sparkle to recieve anything like that.
If an Ultimate Edition is planned I think it would benefit SPHE to announce it now, as New Line did with the LOTR movies for example.

I like to think I have a pretty extensive DVD collection (see for yourself) and out of every movie I own, the only ones with any extras that I ever thought were worth watching more than once are the ones for Star Wars and the extended editions of LOTR. Say what you will about those two franchises, but their documentaries are entertaining and informative on a level that I've never seen any other DVD bonus feature surpass.

I'd wager as much. I still have that on DVD--they offered it alongside the DVD of Die Another Day at Best Buy when it first came out back in June 2003.

Sony's usual trick is to release the second version right before the sequel/followup hits theatres; they did this with Underworld, xXx, and Spider-Man. In other words, no deleted scenes or commentary until October 2008
I am particularly surprised that there's no commentary of any kind, there's been one on every previous Bond DVD release (since they first started putting them on DVD with TND).

I know that in the U.S., that isn't true at all except maybe for xXx. Spider-Man's theatrical release was May 2002, DVD came out November/December 2002 IIRC. No "special edition" came out afterwards (the "deluxe" box set with cards/comics/plaques/whatever was released on the same date as the basic version, I believe; the DVD itself was unchanged), unless you're talking about the Superbit version or something. Spider-Man 2's theatrical release was June 2004, DVD came out November 2004. No "special edition" came out afterwards, unless there's something planned for the theatrical release of Spider-Man 3 in May 2007.
Underworld's theatrical release was September 2003, first DVD came out in January 2004. Special extended edition DVD came out in May 2004. That was it. Underworld Evolution's theatrical release was January 2006. Underworld Evolution's DVD release was June 2006. Nothing else has come out since then.

Honestly, I don't see what the big deal is for not having many extras. What's the point of paying extra money for some featurettes that you'll probably only watch once, if at all?
Well it's all a matter of taste, of course. But you could just as easily say 'Why buy a James Bond novel if you only read it once'! :-)
Not everyone's interested, of course; but I don't think the 'big deal' is being made by people who never watch bonus material, or wouldn't watch CR content if it were offered. For those who are interested in the production side a truly well-made documentary can be fascinating and informative. No matter if you watch it only once or not.
The LOTR and Star Wars DVDs you mention are excellent, and there are others that make a good stab at going beyond standard 'everyone was lovely' puff pieces.
The British TV show Red Dwarf, for example, is one of very few programmes to get excellent treatment and a hefty, worthwhile documentary (anyone else seen these?) - and I could name a stack of shows and movies that I wish were treated so well.
If only CR were getting such treatment!
If you're not interested, fair enough. But the DVD won't be any cheaper, and I for one would have been fascinated to get more on-the-record insight from the writers, director, DP and effects crew.

I believe that there will be a second CR DVD released at some point, probably with two commentaries, a DTS soundtrack and half a dozen deleted scenes. And sadly most of us will buy it. On release day to boot.

I'm thinking there will be others listed nearer the time. Certainly a commentary ...

In addition to the Spider-Man 3-Disc Deluxe Edition released to coincide with Spider-Man 2 that Brock Samson mentioned, Sony will be releasing an extended cut of Spider-Man 2 on DVD in April/May to coincide with the release of Spider-Man 3. Also another likely example: other regions got an extended cut of the Da Vinci Code that R1 didn't. So expect Sony to release that when Angels & Demonds hits theaters.I know that in the U.S., that isn't true at all except maybe for xXx. Spider-Man's theatrical release was May 2002, DVD came out November/December 2002 IIRC. we want deleted scenes not a recycled documentary covering Bond girls from Dr. No to DAD released in 2002, what in the are Eon thinking
The picture of the CR DVD's back cover on dvdactive.com lists this feature as Bond Girls are Forever (2006), making me think that it is probably an all-new piece about Vesper, Solange and Valenka that was stupidly named with an already used title. Otherwise, perhaps it's a re-working of the '02 piece with updated info spliced in.

The runtimes don't match, this new BGAF is listed as "30 minutes", though that's probably an approximation, whereas Maryam d'Abo's documentary is 46 minutes.

As someone who avidly listens to commentaries, and pores over delected scenes, extended scenes, and 'making of' documentaries, I hope they do give us a little more than advertised at the moment.
I thoroughly enjoyed the LotR extended editions, and gave the original ones (without extras) to my son who loved the Tolkein books. It's an expensive interest, collecting DVDs, and considering the wealth of other merchandise and products out there, it's a hard financial decision to get them all. Does anyone think the internet might have a little impact on the initial release? If some people are hanging out for the 'Special Editions', why would they bother buying the first one - just download the movie from the net and wait for October?
Being a little picky, and not wanting to waste a kick a*se theatre system, I want the real deal, but I'm beginning to feel in the minority.
