Just over 2 months for us folks in the US before the DVD hits our living rooms.

I very seriously doubt EON would ever allow a "warts and all" version of anything. In all the current making-of documentaries on DVDs they usually shy away from anything controversial. Anything such as the CnB references will be either glossed over or minimized. Besides, so many casual fans probably don't even recall the movement against Craig or never heard of it to begin with."Becoming Bond" is the documentary us fans have been all been dreaming about, but only, of course, if it goes into a certain amount of detail (can't realistically hope for anything even approaching warts-and-all, obviously) about other actors who were considered, and the whole shebang of controversy and rumour both during the Bond 6 hunt and after Craig's hiring. I really hope it won't just be half an hour's worth of a potted history of Craig's career intercut with luvvyish comments from Bond bigwigs about how he was always the top choice and no one else was really looked at "after Pierce stepped down". It'd be great to see screentests, at least (I remember Cavill's getting a lot of praise from admirers here on CBn who got hold of it in 2005).
I don't really want the 'warts and all' treatment...all of us in here are already very familiar with the warts surrounding CR. I don't want to see the CNB idiots commemorated with a mention on the DVD; if the documentary wants to acknowledge "the media" being negative about CR/Craig, that's fine, but let's not extend the 15 minutes of fame of them pointy heads.
As for Cavill's screentest, funnily enough I remember it getting an extremely negative reaction from those in here who had seen it (zencat in particular, I believe?), with the consensus being his young looks weren't the problem - his acting was.
Another reason we may never see Cavill or anybody else's screentests -- if Craig suddenly left and he is being considered for the future, it may not sit well somewhere. They could no longer say "We wanted him all along" or something.

There's so much talk of good stuff on the cutting-room floor, but what do we know was actually filmed but cut out?

Were there any clips released on the internet that aren't going to be on the DVD (as far as we currently know)?

There's a thread around here somewhere covering just the deleted scenes (the trailer for example, includes a shot that was definitely not in the film: Bond and Vesper in the water).

I would like the original uncut 150 minute version of CR on DVD. One can dream... I would atleast love them to put in the deleted scenes but they just don't seem to want to do this for some strange reason. Maybe incase they decide to shoot similar scenes for extra Bond flicks. The cut CR scenes sounded really good and most of them I don't think they should have cut. They should have trimmed the action instead.

Secondly why's everyone comparing this release to DAD's first release. When the DAD DVD was released it was to complete a 20 DVD Special Edition box set remember. Hence it being chocked full of extras. It HAD to complement the other 19 DVDs that were released.
You could argue that CR should complement the UE DVDs but theres no spot for CR in the UE attache case. Unlike the SE's which had a spot for DAD.

I'm pretty sure you can watch the whole Becoming Bond on youtube anyway....
as far as the deleted scenes.... I have a strong feeling we won't be getting them.... they want money... and that means having another CR DVD release sometime down the road, which may then contain deleted scenes...

Blu-Ray is Sony's high definition DVD format. It's competitor is HD-DVD which is being backed by Toshiba. Neither are compatible with each other & both require a special player so they won't work in your existing DVD player. What exactly is Blue Ray? How does it differ from standard DVD's. Does Blue Ray play on all DVD players?

I used the comparison largely because that was an example of how a DVD for a modern Bond movie could be done. It came at a time when they embraced the format and as a result, we got a great DVD chock full of extras. I don't know if the SEs had anything to do with it. It diverged quite a bit from the SE model. It was a two-disc set and the artwork didn't match. The SE of DAD outdid the previous SEs and included many types of extras that weren't attempted for the other films at the time (such as multi-angle scene deconstructions, etc.). Heck, it seems that the format for it set the template for the new Ultimate Editions. For DAD, what happened was MGM brought in a great DVD producer (Charlie De Lauzarika who did the 9-disc Alen set, the 4 disc Kingdom of Heaven, and many of the best DVDs out there) to follow the production and document it via the DVD. It showed a willingness on the part of the producers to show how a Bond film was done and one hoped that would continue for Casino Royale. I guess this sort of changed with Sony coming on board, which is unfortunate. I believe MGM handled the Ultimate Editions while this is strictly a Sony affair.Secondly why's everyone comparing this release to DAD's first release. When the DAD DVD was released it was to complete a 20 DVD Special Edition box set remember. Hence it being chocked full of extras. It HAD to complement the other 19 DVDs that were released.

Also, here's a nice interview with the producer of the Die Another Day Special Edition DVD on its creation.

I wonder if there will be deleted scenes. That's what I want the most - there was some good material left on the cutting room floor.
I suspect that they will do the same thing that the Universal did with Gladiator. They will put out a regular DVD of the film. In a years time they will put out a special DVD of the film with the deleted scenes. And by time Bond 22 comes out, there will be an extended edition of Casino Royale released with the deleted scenes included. Trust me.

I would love it if you're right aboout this! Sony would do pretty good business I think releasing the original 150 minute uncut version.
Does anyone know if the cricket scene shot for the PTS was in the original 150 minute version that they screened early on for a select audience?

You know, I don't think the producer on DAD followed any production around. There is company that does that called, I think, Special Treats. They did "From Script To Screen" or whatever it is called and "Shaken and Stirred On Ice" and "Just Another Day" which are the really strong docs on the DAD DVD.
I'm sure De Lauzarika does great work, but again, I don't think he had a camera crew on the set.
Keep dancing,

Can anyone please explain, what exactly is "news wraps" ?
My guess is much smaller versions (10-15 minutes) of the 30 minute documentaries, but covering other aspects of the film. Could be wrong.

The 1954 Climax TV Version of Casino Royale, starring Barry Nelson as "Card Sense" Jimmy Bond!
Seriously, that's the extra I want most. My old videotape is in sad shape, and I don't want to buy that piece of garbage 1967 spoof to get this.
Besides, it would be great to compare the version that was aired just a year after the book came out, and the current movie with its modern take on the story.
This is an extra that they really should include.

You might be right about this. While De Lauzarika mentioned in the interview that I linked to that he got involved early in the production of DAD, it also seems that EON was fairly difficult to deal with so maybe they were more restricting when it came to the extras. I know for his work with Ridley Scott he's there with a camera basically from the moment the idea is conceived (as seen on the Kingdom of Heaven DVD)!You know, I don't think the producer on DAD followed any production around. There is company that does that called, I think, Special Treats. They did "From Script To Screen" or whatever it is called and "Shaken and Stirred On Ice" and "Just Another Day" which are the really strong docs on the DAD DVD.

Still, one hopes EON is more open to extras as they seemed to be with the Ultimate Editions. The last thing I want to see on this DVD is hours of people just telling us how much of a genius everyone is. I want to get into the nitty gritty of the film's production.

Only thing is, and this might be a bit of a flight of fancy on my part since it'd be difficult, if there were an cast commentary, I'd much rather it be the cast in a room together talking about the movie (obviously, they'll probably have other commitments by now).
The thing that niggled me about the Pierce Brosnan/Rosamund Pike commentary on Die Another Day was that it was clearly just some soundbites strung together. I was listening to the movie on the headphones and when Pierce starts talking about Desmond Llewellyn, the sound quality was decidedly different. I began to wonder if it was just lifted from an interview with him

While I know it was already included on the DVD for the 1967 spoof, the extra that I REALLY want is...

However, it'd be nice to see them include the entire 1954 version--and not the one found on most VHS editions and the Casino Royale'67 DVD.

I agree that would be the coolest feature on the DVD if they did it.
As for Blu_Ray don't forget that in addition to the player you really outta get the HD TV as well. I've seen them in the Magnolia section of Best Buy and the picture is amazing. With the right speakers, the sound is pretty awesome too.

It is still very fresh in my mind after multiple viewings so i would prefer to wait until a more complete edition comes along no matter how long it takes.
After all absence makes the heart grow fonder....
