Domestic total: $159.9 million
Overseas total: $371.2 million
Worldwide total: $531.1 million
My final predictions were:
Domestic total: $160 million
Overseas total: $370 million
Worldwide total: $530 million
So unless Casino Royale abruptly stops selling tickets, it seems even my predictions, which I think were some of the more ambitious, fell short! I've love to see CR finish up exceeding Moonraker's admissions to become #5 overall, and at this point that seems very much feasible.

BTW, it seems that CR has undergone a curious title change for the People's Republic:

What would be your new prediction for final US gross, Publius?
Predictably, NIGHT AT THE MUSEUM has now overtaken CASINO ROYALE in the States, although it's a virtual certainty that CR will remain in the top ten for 2006.
I note that ROCKY BALBOA seems to be doing just middling business (not all that surprising, I suppose) and that APOCALYPTO appears to be performing badly.

Given that CR is about $3-4 million ahead of DAD in terms of day-to-day performance (it seems to have done especially well around New Year's), $165 million certainly seems possible and likely. Not too many million above that, because even with its better "legs", the DVD release is considerably earlier than it was for DAD. I'll just go ahead and guess $167 million for the hell of it. Maybe people are being inspired by it being 2-007.What would be your new prediction for final US gross, Publius?
And speaking of DVDs, I think CR will outright flog DAD in that department.

Important to remember that CR has yet to open in the biggest nation on Earth: China! And it's happening end of this month.

Not surprising, I had trouble just making it through the trailer.

Well its got about $60 million in 3 weeks. Not blockbuster numbers obviously, but it only cost $24 million to make; and much like Bond, it looks like Rocky movies make most of their money overseas so I think its going to be a nice earner for everyone concerned. (Incidentally, a certain someone on this forum, or possibly no longer on this forum, predicted that Balboa wouldn't make $25 million in the US.)

I didn't. I thought it was the most riveting trailer I'd ever seen - a visual feast (I think I'm talking about the teaser that was playing in cinemas a few months ago, not the more recent one, although when I last saw the latest one with a friend at a screening of CASINO ROYALE it seemed to spark her interest considerably and she immediately said "Gotta see that - is it out yet?"). Now, whether I'll find it similarly exciting stuff as played out over two hours remains to be seen, but I am surprised that it hasn't done better box office.

Yeah. He was "a bit out" on his CR prediction, too, wouldn't you say?
You're right that BALBOA has done well. Another thing it has in common with Bond is that it'll be a nice little earner for years (DVD, TV, and what-have-you).

It's a shame some people are put off by the trailer for Apocalypto... I don't think the trailer really gets across the fact that it's a thumpingly good action film, fantastically shot. If you can handle the explicit violence, it's really gripping stuff.I didn't. I thought it was the most riveting trailer I'd ever seen - a visual feast

If you liked Braveheart, or Gladiator, then you'll like Apocalypto on that basis alone.

Casino Royale is placed 19th with an estimate of $1,775,000 which brings the overall total to approx $162,525,000. This means CR has now overtaken DAD and become the highest grossing Bond film of all in the US, not accounting for "inflation adjusted".
A footnote. CR's theatre count has now been reduced from 1266 to 819.

Box Office Mojo's weekend US box office estimates place Stomp the Yard as the highest grossing film totalling $22 million.

Excellent news.......as CR passes DAD at the US boxoffice (at last)
Shame though that film is playing at only 819 theatres, as its daily box office
per theatre is higher than a fair number of other films above it in the chart.

Variety reported worldwide numbers late last night, but in their report they screwed up and listed last week's numbers. Last week Variety claimed a jump of 19.2 million. This week they're saying 18.5 so if that number is correct that puts it at about 549/550, but considering the report I don't know if you can really trust that.

I thought it would have done better than 1.7 million. More like 2 million. I guess it can't help that Sony is off announcing the DVD. At this point I think the drop off rate could be faster now.

I hope it's true. It seems CR might end up with $565 million or so by the end of its run. Impressive.

international boxoffice report early Sunday mornings for the previous
weekend, even though they made an inital report almost a week prior.
Seems a bit late and strange to duplicate figures, as by the end of this
evening there will be another report for the current weekends international
takings.
