I'd have no problem with this title whatsoever. In fact, I'd dig it.

Does it really matter if people can't understand it? The Bond series isn't exactly known for it's comprehensable titles.
You're right, titles like "Tomorrow Never Dies", "The World is Not Enough" and even "Goldeneye" aren't comprehensible, in that they don't actually mean anything. But at least the words making up those titles are comprehensible to your average Joe, who's just going to read "Quantum of Solace" and think "the who of what?"
(No offence to anyone of course! I'm saying all this just in the context of the history of "Licence Revoked", as per my original posting above.)
I seriously doubt it would hurt ticket sales in anyway, in fact I think the strangeness of the title could give Bond 22 some notoriety.
I'm not suggesting it will hurt ticket sales - just that if this is true (and good find Cyclone49, if so) then I think it is an odd choice!

I'm embarrassed to say I had to look it up. It means something akin to 'measure of comfort,' which I suppose makes sense regarding Bond's current situation.
That's precisely what the title means, and those who are still confused on the meaning of it need only to take some time to read Ian Fleming's short story. In my opinion, Quantum of Solace is the best of his short stories.

Definitely makes sense considering ending of CR.
Or... maybe it refers to Bond needing "a bit of peace and quiet" and he'll spend the first 10 minutes reclining in an easy chair.

What I don't want to see......
Casino Royale 2: Insert Subtitle Here
CASINO ROYALE 2: CASINO HARDER
That said, I can live with "Quantum of Solace", but I too preferred "The Property of a Lady". Still, worse titles could be had. But I know I'm gonna be sick of explaining to people what the title means.

Nice. I never thought they'd ever go with it, but it's cool, unique, and it's Fleming.

QUANTUM OF SOLACE?
Nice. I never thought they'd ever go with it, but it's cool, unique, and it's Fleming.
I never thought that they would go with it either. I can't say that I'm completely satisfied with the title, although it's leaps and bounds better than "007" or some of the other rumored titles. Not a bad title for a film, but I'm not sure that it's the best title they could have gone with, although I'm beginning to think that maybe Sony is using this as a decoy for the real title for the film. I guess we'll see later on Thursday at the press conference whether or not it is actually the title, but I'm not as certain now as I was earlier that it is the title.

So was the VD he contracted whilst at Sandhurst.
If this is the title, I look forward to hearing their explanation. It's going to need one. True, it would seem to fit what we guess some of the narrative of the film will be, but I fear that much of the population has enough trouble with "of", never mind the rest of it.

Agreed. I think that the title may be a bit complicated for the average moviegoer, especially since "Licence Revoked" was considered to be too complicated for audiences to figure out. I'm starting to think that they're not going to go with QoS as the title for this reason, but we'll see what happens at the press conference.

On reflection, I wouldn't want us to be accused of snobbery, and it will probably be generally known as "are you going to see the new Bond movie?" when it's released, as they all seem to be.
Off the top of my aged head I cannot think of a credible series of rhymes for Solace so I guess it'll be "You Know My Name Part II: You Don't Understand My Name".

I'm sure that it wouldn't be a difficult title to figure out, but I was referring more to the fact that it's a bit more complicated than "Licence Revoked", which EON didn't think the average moviegoer would understand.

2. Without question at some point in the movie the title will be explained.
3. The average moviegoer doesn't care about the title as much as they care that it's a new James Bond movie. CASINO ROYALE is not the most exciting of titles in Fleming's bibliography, it still had zero problem getting bums in seats.
4. Everything about how EON has been running things since Craig took over the role speaks of aiming the movies toward the highest common denominator in the audience. James Bond movies should offer sophisticated entertainment (with plenty of sex and violence). You don't have to worry about the dumber parts of the audience --they'll go see anything, whether they know what the title means or not.

Great work, Cyclone.Interestingly enough, http://www.quantumofsolace.com redirects to the Sony Pictures website.
I'd be very happy with that as the title. I hope it doesn't turn out to be a red herring.
Excellent work Cyclone!!
Ladies and Gentlemen, it seems we have a title!
