Something that's always annoyed me is the idea that Bond shouldn't appeal to women because he treats them badly :) . What, so no woman has ever used a man for sex and then tossed him aside, or manipulated, lied and cheated to get what she wants? I think Bond's supposed misogyny has been highly overstated, and feminists themselves have done more to hurt the cause of feminism than any man ever has. Most of the women in Bond films are perfectly capable of looking after themselves, in fact I believe that if I'd been growing up in the sixties I'd have found some of them quite inspirational.

Agree 1000%. I hate watching some obviously women lib movies where a woman can do no wrong and the man is to blame for everything. There's a fine line between treating women badly and taking this women lib thing a little too far. Somehow those women who are looking at Bond as sexist tend to overlook the female characters he is dealing with in these movies, they only pay attention to Bond's actions themselves. The onyl time when I thought Bond wasn't being reasonable was when Roger Moore's Bond hit Andrea in TMWTGG. That looked a but out of place, I thought, since she didn't provoke him.

am scared of people who dress up as their favourite Star Wars and Star Trek characters......

Some are just doing it for fun at the conventions, but some do take it a little too seriously. William Shatner said about this: "It's just a show, get over it." I'd be feeling uneasy, too, if someone walked up to me and said: "Live long and prosper." :P

Did he really? That is cool. Probably the best quote I've heard from him. He is of course right, it's only a television show. Some people treat it like it's life or death!!

I have never understood why some men ask "Do women like..." questions. We actually are individuals with a wide variety of tastes.

You might ask "Do men like James Bond?" because not all men do. And you men here don't know many other men who are as hardcore as you are.

It is fair to say that male Bond fans outnumber female Bond fans; I've visited enough Bond boards and Bond events to see that. But "women" aren't members of a secret cabal that gives us marching instructions as to what we must and must not like. :)

I am a guy, and I like some chick flicks. It depends on your definition.

I like these romantic comedies. Basically for just cuddling up on the sofa with some wine:-

The Notebook
Dirty Dancing
Four Weddings & a Funeral
Bridget Jones' Diary
Muriel's Wedding
Notting Hill
Love Actually
My Big Fat Greek Wedding

I loves me some rom-com, but I don't like weepies. "Chick flick" and "guy flick" are just ways to divide us, and we shouldn't buy it.

Indeed. Men and women should lovingly embrace each other rather than indulge in all these labels.

And ernie, there is nothing wrong with hopping into bed with a bimbo, whether its a male or female bimbo....

I couldn't agree more--but would you want to marry one? :) What would you talk about? And wouldn't you get tired of showing him/her over and over how to connect to the internet, or make toast? :P

Re: feminists, I find that any group without a sense of humor about itself is a bad thing. See also: Nazis, Radical Islamics, Communists, etc.

Something else I've noticed since I've returned from living overseas for two years is that in America, male-female relationships are much more adversarial than those in Europe or Asia. Even the initial dating stages seem to be more a contest or a game of one-upmanship than a desire to get to know one another better. Not always, of course, but quite often.

And I think "chick flicks" or "guy stuff" are not really divisive terms; to me, they're just shorthand. I'm far more worried by efforts to demonize these terms, as I see this as "thought police" kind of stuff. Stereotypes exist for a reason, because exceptions are often just that--exceptions. And not all stereotypes are bad, in my opinion.

I think we ought to spend less time looking for things we can worry about, and more time fixing the things we know are a problem.

Okay, I'm off my soapbox. As to the original topic, all I can say is that I really enjoy meeting a female Bond fan. They're almost always interesting people--and not just because they like 007.

I know plenty of female Bond fans. I grew up with a female cousin who was as big a fan as I was. Try prying us out of the double features that used to come around in the summer. We would sit through them twice. You used to be able to do that. Now I work for a domestic violence agency. You might be tempted to think that I work with a humorless bunch of feminists. Not so. They are all lovely people with a great sense of humor. We need it really given the field we work in. And many of them, victims of DV themselves, who adore James Bond and can't wait for CR to come out. A bunch of us are going to see it as a group.

Great! Sounds like you have a fun group--and like you, I remember the good old days (we're dating ourselves, I think!) In fact, after I saw DAF when I was ten, I went to a triple-feature (Dr.No, FRWL and GF)at a local theater. Rode my bike down for the noon start and got home at seven. Pure heaven when you're 10! :)

Hell, I even remember when they'd show cartoons before the feature instead of ads!

Moomoo isn't that bad. Just don't fall into the trap of actually discussing things with him. Just watch and.... wonder.

Even the Princess Leia in gold bikini thing? I didn't actually do that in public though, strictly for private fun .

No, you've got me there.... :P

I love Princess Leia in the gold bikini, although why Han Solo didn't ask her to keep it on for the remainder of the movie I will never know.....

Because he was blind at the time, remember? because of the carbonite...
by the time he could see again she had changed... :)

looooove him!!!

CR gained a big female audience, not only because DC, who for a lot of women was sexy, attractive, and hot, but the film had great characterization, touching love story, and a well-written narrative. There is something about cold hearted bad boys when they get their hearts broken that makes women take notice.

P.S.One of the brilliant things about the trailer is that they included the shower scene shot,a lot of my female friends went to see the movie because of it...and the Ursula Andress-like shot of course :)

I am a woman, and I am a huge Bond fan. I have been since I was eight years old. My first movie I believe was For Your Eyes Only, but I don't remember all that well. My room is Bond themed, and so is my myspace page. It's crazy how much I love Bond! I've actually converted many ladies to the franchise, including my sisters and mother. It's great!

I'm female and I too heart anything and everything James Bond.

I can't stand the whole idea of "females shouldn't like James Bond cuz he's a womanizer and mistreats the girls... blah blah blah". Yeah freakin' right to whoever said that, just open your eyes and take a look at how many unworthy chaps there are out there in our world who are simply MORONS to us girls. Must say that it is during Bond movies that I do actually manage to blush and feel like an actual lady for those ever-so-brief moments.

But besides Bond himself, I must say that I'm a major sucker for the outfits in the Bond movies. I'd probably have my eyes pop out like a deer seeing headlights of a car if they were to open up a site where they actually sell the Bond girl outfits... not just the Bond stuff for guys that I've stumbled upon online a few times. Lol!

Oh wait... also the gadgets, the car (am hoping that Froggie-turned-Prince one day will have one like that... but a girl can only dream!), and I must say that what really drew me into it first and foremost was actually Fleming's writing style! It was just far too addictive to read and simply a classic, it just bewitched me for a lack of better words and continues to inspire me since I would like to go into script/novel writing one day.

The one woman I dated who liked Bond always had an appreciation for the finer things in life. She was more fun to take out to dinner than those I dated who did not like 007. She was more appreciative of the gifts I gave her. She was more competitive on the ski slopes. She really enjoyed getting all gussied up and going out on the town. She was more confident, self-assured in her decisions.

Well, bill007, why didn't you marry the lovely lady?

She already was. Well, divorced anyway. She wasn't into going there for a while. Then I moved away.

For the record, I'm a gal who loves Bond movies. What can I say? They're great fun with good action and storylines (most of them anyways). Most of my other female friends haven't seen the Bond movies and don't entirely care to.

I do have to say, however, that I chose not to go see Casino Royale because I think that Daniel Craig is an ugly old man. I probably should have seen it anyways, but I just don't want to see a blonde Bond. It makes me sick.

I am sorry to say ..but that is the stupidest reason not to see a movie, and when the movie is a quality one like CR, then it's even more stupid.
using your logic( which a LOT of women disagree with BTW), people shouldn't see movies with Al Pacino, De Niro, Steve McQueen..since they are not the pretty boy types, but they are damn good actors, and Daniel Craig is a good damn actor!

old man.

He's the same age as Bond in the Fleming novels and a lot younger than Pierce Brosnan, Roger Moore and Sean Connery in some of their efforts, so by that logic you must have not bothered to see at least half of the Bond films made so far.
