I think he's just caught Craig nicking Barbara's car keys.

You can take the boy out of Liverpool ...

I think it's more like MGW just realized who the man with the golden gun is, and he's aiming it point-blank at his sister!

You know the more I see of Daniel Craig at the press conference, the more excited I get. He looked really good. His hair was the right length whereas in Layer Cake it's a tad too short. And while I still say his hair should be dyed a little bit darker, I think I might be able to (heaven forbid) accept it if he stays blonde. Regardless, go Daniel, good luck, and congratulations.

All I can say is it took guts for EON to sign a very good actor who may not be in the past cinematic mold of James Bond. EON went with a quality actor over pure good looks(McMahon types)to bring some fire back into the series. When you look at Daniel Craig do you immediately see James Bond? Obviously no. Craig is arguably the best actor EON has ever cast in the role (next to Sir Sean) so I'll reserve judgement until November 17, 2006. Campbell, Babs and Mikey would not have made this decision unless Craig knocked their socks off in the screening process. My hat goes off to Mr. Craig for snagging the greatest role in movie history and I hope he has a great run. Was he my first choice? No. However, I can understand why he was cast as 007 and I think he will give the die hard fans the Bond we have longed for since the early Connery years.

Congratulations, Mr. Craig! I haven't seen any of your performances so I'll watch CR with completely unbiased objectivity. Hopefully, they'll provide you with a good script so all of us will be happy.

In Entertainment Weekly there's a feature called "Fever Chart: Taking the temperature of pop culture" that rates things from 0 to 100 degrees. James Bond is at 100 in the new issue because of this news. As they say, "There is likely a new Bond, James Bond; Sexy Brit, Daniel Craig. Lucky Moneypenny."

Not much, but it's nice to see.

When all is said and done congrats are due!

Will be an interesting film and I think it's a good casting choice.

Loving the CR logo. Very old-school OO7.

Daniel Craig's been getting positive reactions from the general public
here in Britain apart from one women who doesn't trust blondes.

View Post

Well, here in the US the reaction has been very negative. Everyone I have spoken to today (off the Bond boards, I mean) has never heard of him, or thought he was weasely, or both.

I caught the conference live on Sky News earlier and then frustratingly lost my post. Were there technical problems caused by everybody trying to log on at once? I thought that Sky's coverage was quite negative. Much was made of the fact that Craig is not traditionally tall, dark and handsome. Their interactive poll showed that over 70% of voters thought that he wouldn't make a good Bond. That's a bit worrying considering that they are more likely to be casual fans than obsessives like us. There was even a snipey comment made about the bags under his eyes.

Craig didn't help matters by turning up chewing gum, and then swearing during his first words uttered. Classy. I thought that he looked ill at ease throughout the conference, and too many questions were either sidestepped, referred to others, or not answered at all. He certainly is not a natural with the press like Brosnan. But I'm being rather harsh. It can't be easy for someone who prefers to keep his life private to be suddenly centre stage, and hopefully he can get used to this. As for the Mirror reporter, her first question was bad enough, but then she came back for seconds later on. This was the gutter press at its worse.

On a more positive note, I've seen a lot of Craig's work but somehow I've never noticed what a great voice he has before. It has a commanding steely authority that is just perfect for Bond, and I can't wait to hear him say "Bond, James Bond". Also, if his makeover in the film is as good as that official photo then we are really in business. He does need to dye his hair though, but not too dark as I'm sure that wouldn't look right on him.

As someone who has always expressed reservations about Craig's appearance, I am now more optimistic about enjoying his interpretation. However, I still have doubts about his long term commercial appeal. Has he got the charm and humour that the general public expects? Its been an exciting day and so naturally at this moment there is a lot of goodwill from fans extended towards Craig. But will this last beyond one film? Time will tell.

Finally, I never realised that Craig was a Scouser. He'll have that Aston Martin up on bricks in no time! :)

(Only joking Scousers. Its not been a bad year for you. First the Champions League and now Bond! :) )

My god, it's been a long time since i hovered over here to CBn, just because of this exciting news. To be honest, i heard Daniel Craig's name, but i'm not familar with his work. He has a different look, so that's a plus. He looks like a young Roger Moore. Just excited to hear this news. IT'S ABOUT A DAMN TIME EON!!! LOL.

Wow. This is amazing! :)

I think Craig should do a great as James Bond. He definitely looks the part. Although Clive Owen would have arguably been the "ideal" choice, Daniel Craig is probably the next best thing. Just fix up his hair a little bit, and "presto"!

This film is finally coming to life! :)

Well, I admit I thought Jackman would be perfect for the role (and still do) but with the movie heading off in a new direction, I think Craig is indeed a fantastic choice. The producers have been very brave in selecting someone closer to the appearence of the Fleming Bond, and I for one am VERY excited to see Casino Royale finally getting underway! :) :)

I agree. The more I think about it, the more I love this choice. It's risky, something I get the feeling the producers have been nervous about being the last four films. As much as I love the Brosnan Bonds, they were all more or less safe bets in terms of filmmaking. They're really taking the first major risk (I can't really call casting Brosnan a risky venture) since License to Kill.

I wonder if they have signed Craig to a one off deal ? I cant see any reference /comment on picture deal accept a comment from Craig saying ''we have agreement'' . Many possibilities if this true ; could be that they are unsure if Craig will be accepted by the public or Casino Royale will be a one off that will not have any realtionship to past / future movies. This would also mean we may have a new Bond for Bond 22 !

Campbell said last week that the deal for the new Bond would be a 3 picture commitment (this was said in the context of explaining why it was difficult to sign a star with this sort of deal). Moore, Dalton, Brosnan, all signed 3 picture deals (with, I believe, an option for a fourth). I'm sure Craig's deal is the same.

What was Connery's? 4? I believe the reason Lazenby did only one was because he was signed without a contract and he refused a 7 picture contract afterwards. After Lazenby I doubt they would sign an actor to a one pic contract.

Hmm, weren't EON originally contracted to do 6 Bonds?

Just thought I'd say how relieved I am that it's finally over. Daniel Craig it is. Great! He looks like he'll give "Casino" an edge that's been missing for a while. Onya Dan!
Haven't been on these forums for a while. Hope everyone 'round Australia has been well.
Cheers from Melbourne.

I just watched Layer Cake last night and I must say...most of my reservations about him as Bond have evaporated. I think everyone needs to go rent this movie, even if you still hate Craig as Bond it's just worth watching.

Just please dye his hair.......hahaha.....

I took a look at the British GQ last night (the 'Men of the Year' issue)...the guy really does not look that terrible in a prepared picture. In those redcarpet pics, its hard to get a decent idea of him as Bond. But like the pic posted on the main CR site, when he is actually prepared for a photo, it doesn't take as much imagination to see him as Bond. He appears a bit younger.

With all of the negative reactions he is getting, I wonder if we will see a rush on the first poster/teaster/trailer, to calm people down. While the pic on the official page is good, I still don't think most people see him as Bond. I think as soon as the women are cast, a poster should be made to implant the image in the public's mind.

No Bond can replace the one before them. They're all good in their own ways. It's just a new chapter, that's all.

But more importantly, just what the heck is Michael Wilson staring at in this pic?!

I think Michael Wilson has just spotted why Daniel Craig is really popular with the ladies.
