I just watched Layer Cake last night and I must say...most of my reservations about him as Bond have evaporated. I think everyone needs to go rent this movie, even if you still hate Craig as Bond it's just worth watching.

Just please dye his hair.......hahaha.....

LOL

I did too!

I thought there were many moments where I felt "Yeah, he's definitely James Bond". He did well in his scenes with Sienna Miller, and looked pretty bad :) with a gun (Funny his choice of gun is the classic Connery one).

Daniel Craig has full approval from myself and my sister (Whose new favorite film is Layer Cake).

No Bond can replace the one before them. They're all good in their own ways. It's just a new chapter, that's all.

But more importantly, just what the heck is Michael Wilson staring at in this pic?!

I think he's an excellent left-field choice. Seems very close to the Bond of the books (certainly the height and build are correct). Craig somehow looks like he's stepped out of the 1960s, and I think they're going for that raw kind of sexuality Connery had. Craig could certainly play a suave roguish killer. Controlled and deadly. I really hope the movie lives up to his promise.

I still have some doubts about him, but who knows? He might actually be good! I hope he's at least better than Lazenby and Dalton...

He's looking at Craig's footwear, trying to figure out how Craig has grown three inches in height. Did anyone else notice that Craig was a lot lankier than usual. I guess this is unimportant, because if Craig can appear tall in front of the world's media, then he can appear tall in the film, and not like the "little guy" that Jonathan Ross descibe him as on his radio show this morning.

Ok, just saw a more recent pic of Daniel Craig. The guy is 37 but no offense he looks 67! There's just no way--Brosnan is 52 and looks more like a 37 year old than this guy! I'll give him a chance since I love James Bond, but it's going to be hard...I mean, Bond is supposed to be good looking...and well, Craig just doesn't fit that aspect. Not to mention, he is a blond. That'll be a unique change.

If he's half as good as Dalton, then he'll be an excellent James Bond.

The "so-called ugliness"-argument is getting old. If you want to satisfy yourself by picking on Craig, please look for a new line of reasoning.

So he's it, is it? The things you miss when lacking internet for a few days... :)

Personally I'm very, very undecided about Craig. On the one hand, James Bond has to be tall, square-jawed and black-haired. Period. An actor who has none of these basic physical attributes is already a far way from becoming "my" Bond. On the other hand, Craig does have very intense eyes and an edge to his facial expression that several previous Bonds as well as other contenders for the role lacked, and the dangerous edge might just make up for the other faults. He's an able actor rather than a prettyboy (though I'm sure there were enough candidates who are both) -- although he does have a certain likeness to Hoagy Carmichael, who apparently was considered the sort of attractive-looking man James should resemble by Fleming, and I personally don't find him attractive either. :)

I don't know. The Bond in my head has become and will probably stay Pierce Brosnan, but despite my initial disapproval I'm open for the new movie Bond and his era of films and just hope that they will both do the history of 007 justice -- which would be way more than the last Brosnan films did, in fact.

Well, like I said I am giving him a chance. There's not much anyone can do except the casting director in changing who they cast. Definitely, Brosnan is the only person I can consider Bond, but if Craig does as well as Connery and Moore acting-wise, then I will content myself.

Unbelievable. Not one, nor two, but no fewer than three separate assaults on Craig's private life (the last one prefaced by "I know you don't like me, but...."). Which were utterly irrelevant to Bond and therefore insulting not only to Craig but also to Broccoli, Campbell and Wilson. She pretty much singlehandedly put a huge damper on what should have been a fun event celebrating not only an important and exciting day in the career of one actor but also a franchise and character loved for decades by millions. The Mirror couldn't let go of the Sienna Miller and Kate Moss stories for so much as, what was it? 20 minutes? I think the paper deserves to be barred from all future Bond-related events - press conferences, premieres, the lot.

I just watched the whole press conference. (thank you, CBN.) The Daily Mirror is full of bullspit. Yes, Daniel was nervous, so what. I felt he was very honest with his answers. He looked good. And After seeing and hearing him, for myself. I feel a whole lot better about all of this. Daniel Craig will do fine. And we all know I'm a Brosnazi. And speaking of PB. Thank you, Daniel for giving PB a nod. Unlike the classless Eon duo.

ps. The Daily Mirror have a miraculous power of turning wine into water.--sorry Oscar. :)

OK, so they weren't great questions. But Kate Moss and Sienna Miller have been plastered all over the tabloids lately.

Craig is linked to them both.

Did you think the question WOULDN'T COME UP?

Oh those meanies!

Should they have asked him true softballs like "What is your favorite color?"

To put it bluntly, most of his answers sucked.

The boat stunt was a complete misfire. I love the Keith Oberman "Where is his parasol?" comment.

Scared [censored]less because of a boat ride? Chewing gum?

I'm not pinning the blame completely on Craig either.

Neither Wilson nor Broccoli spoke up regarding the boarding school comment - and they should have nipped that in the bud by saying that none of the previous 5 had gone so why should Craig?

No one answered what Craig was bringing to the role.

"Well, with his looks and the Kate Moss angle - we were going for heroin chic" might have been an intelligent answer.

Kind of unrelated, but she seems to be an extremely quiet woman when it comes to Bond and fan interaction. She answered (from what I remember) one question today, and even with things like the DVD's - Wilson's presense is many, many times more than hers. I realize he's been around longer, but even so...

I think the question shouldn't come up. What does it have to do with James Bond or Casino Royale? What does it have to do with anyone except those involved? I mean, what sort of pond life wants to read about it?

Should they have asked him true softballs like "What is your favorite color?"

It's about as relevant to Casino Royale as his love life, so why not?

To put it bluntly, most of his answers sucked.

Ask a sucky question ...

The boat stunt was a complete misfire. I love the Keith Oberman "Where is his parasol?" comment.

Is this about the lifejacket? You'll notice that the Royal Marines were wearing them as well. I'd love to see Charles Helfenstein or Keith Oberman ask any of them where their parasols are ...

"Well, with his looks and the Kate Moss angle - we were going for heroin chic" might have been an intelligent answer.

Crass.

Much like Craig's potty mouth. Tracking down previous interviews, he certainly loves to curse.

View Post

[/quote]
You lead me to my last gripe. :) So, Danny boy likes to curse. And maybe he likes the ladies. That's great. But, it sounds like a bad boy to me. But that is why Colin Farrell was rejected. Eric Bana lacked good looks. Ewan McGregor was too short. Hugh Jackman lacked masculiinity. I guess they missed X-Men 1&2. Here where it gets dicey. Brosnan is too old. But Danny has a old look to his face. It wasn't about the money with Brosnan. But, they sign Daneil at a lowball number. Then they want an adult Bond movie. But, they target the young video game market. Double talk to me. Now I got it all out. On with CR. :)

The decision of Daniel Craig can be surmised in a word....potential. A massive amount of potential exists here. Craig is, aside from his blond locks, the closest profile to Fleming's Bond. Compare most of the characteristics from the books to Craig. The possibility for the comma and the scar that Fleming's Bond included can be easily added in movieland these days.

If the movie follows the book closely enough, this will quite possibly be the best Bond movie yet. No offense to any of the other movies, of course. I've seen them all and loved most of them. But, if the correct mood is captured, and if Craig can capture the Bond attitude, then this movie will be much more impressive than anything in recent history, at least. Again, no offense intended to anyone.

The reports I have read seem to be going in the direction of that gritter, darker mood that the books seemed to follow, and I have to say that I am excited and intrigued at the possibilities this movie brings.

Another thing, and I think we can all agree on this one. Producers of the Bond films, hear me well. You have the opportunity to properly cast for this movie one of the best characters of the series. That's right...FELIX LEITER!!!! Felix helped to make the books what they were when he was around. He was Bond's equal, and his best friend, not Bond's sidekick. His role in the books was significant, and if there was ever a time to do everything right, this would be it. After all, Casino Royale is where we meet Felix for the first time. Everyone needs a real friend.

Finally, if things go well for Casino Royale, where do we go from here?, you may ask. Now of course this only a thought, but I'm interested to see what everyone else thinks. Fleming's vision brought to life...for real this time. Continue on from Casino Royale in true form, onto....Live and Let Die! Follow the book continuation, following the books much more closely this time, if not to the letter. There's a reason the book is usually better the movie, and that's usually because too much is changed from the book.

Now, perhaps I am simply too hardcore of a Bond book fan, but I figure that's what this site is here for. Or perhaps I'm just tired and rambling. Either way, I hope everyone enjoys my first post. Sorry about the length. Just a lot of thought to get out.

I eagerly await any comments, opinions, etc.
