The decision of Daniel Craig can be surmised in a word....potential. A massive amount of potential exists here. Craig is, aside from his blond locks, the closest profile to Fleming's Bond. Compare most of the characteristics from the books to Craig. The possibility for the comma and the scar that Fleming's Bond included can be easily added in movieland these days.
If the movie follows the book closely enough, this will quite possibly be the best Bond movie yet. No offense to any of the other movies, of course. I've seen them all and loved most of them. But, if the correct mood is captured, and if Craig can capture the Bond attitude, then this movie will be much more impressive than anything in recent history, at least. Again, no offense intended to anyone.
The reports I have read seem to be going in the direction of that gritter, darker mood that the books seemed to follow, and I have to say that I am excited and intrigued at the possibilities this movie brings.
Another thing, and I think we can all agree on this one. Producers of the Bond films, hear me well. You have the opportunity to properly cast for this movie one of the best characters of the series. That's right...FELIX LEITER!!!! Felix helped to make the books what they were when he was around. He was Bond's equal, and his best friend, not Bond's sidekick. His role in the books was significant, and if there was ever a time to do everything right, this would be it. After all, Casino Royale is where we meet Felix for the first time. Everyone needs a real friend.
Finally, if things go well for Casino Royale, where do we go from here?, you may ask. Now of course this only a thought, but I'm interested to see what everyone else thinks. Fleming's vision brought to life...for real this time. Continue on from Casino Royale in true form, onto....Live and Let Die! Follow the book continuation, following the books much more closely this time, if not to the letter. There's a reason the book is usually better the movie, and that's usually because too much is changed from the book.
Now, perhaps I am simply too hardcore of a Bond book fan, but I figure that's what this site is here for. Or perhaps I'm just tired and rambling. Either way, I hope everyone enjoys my first post. Sorry about the length. Just a lot of thought to get out.
I eagerly await any comments, opinions, etc.
