DANIEL CRAIG IS JAMES BOND

Eon & Sony officially announce the new 007

Craig turned up in a speed-boat and the actual conference will start soon.

I've had better luck with Sky News for footage and here are some pictures.

I'm sure I'm not the first with this thread, but FINALLY we have the news we've all been waiting for!
Craig may not be everyone's ideal choice for the role, but I think he'll be good. Hopefully, the script won't let him down. But with Martin Campbell at the helm, we just might get the kind of Bond film that's been lacking in recent years.

A speedboat, eh? Typical.

Mikey looks old in that pic. :)

As much as I was originally skeptical of Craig, this is still kind of exciting.

He's old :)

The speedboat-thing was nice, but Daniel could have appeared in a tuxedo I think.

Nevertheless, great day :)

Agreed...I may not have thought he was ideal and was aghast at the original thought of Craig as Bond, but I am honestly glad that the "search" is behind us. NOW, let's get down to business, shall we?

I can't wait for Casino Royale!

I think it's great that it is Craig.

He looks - except of his hair - pretty bondlike, at least to me.

He'll do a great job, grittier, tougher than the last ones. As I said - fantastic news.

We should judge him about his appearence in CR and not what he looks like now. Imo we all should give him a chance to prove his detractors wrong.

Thank god! This proves that EON is incapable of picking a bad Bond.

Craig was not my choice, but I don't have anything against him. We should be confident in Eon. They saw the tests of the candidates, so... If they choosed Craig, there's a reason.
I just hope that fans and non fans will massively go and see CR. If Craig is not good, we'll have a new 007 for Bond 22, and if he's good... well... cheers!

I think Craig looked great. Now if CNN people would shut up and let us hear what they are saying.

Daniel Craig IS Bond. He will kick :). This is such a brave choice. Kudos to Eon and Sony for rolling the dice.

This pic reminded me of Bond and M or Q, if CR were to be a period piece:

He looks like a stone-cold killer. I can't believe they've been this brave.

It's very nice (and strange, actually) to finally be done with the search. It'll take some time to sink in for me: we actually know who the new Bond is. Think about it... no more rumor mill. I guess speculation will have to move on to Vesper and Le Chiffre.

And Felix, of course.

The press conference is still running live on the BBC website: he's said he thinks he'll be playing it blond and there's been confirmation of the Aston Martin (Fiat is just a rumour).

Plus the Casino Royale logo is dirty!

Some comments so far;

They looked all over the UK and the British colonies for the next Bond.

It was never offered to anyone else.

The Fiat thing is just a rumour.

Craig knew he had the part on Monday.

He won

Well, I was hoping that this wouldn't be the case, but Craig is James Bond in Casino Royale.

My gut feeling is that he will give a really good performance as Bond, but like Timothy Dalton he will not catch on with the general public.

I'd like to be wrong, and I'm hoping for the best. I LOVE Fleming's novel, and I've been waiting for 15 years to see a legitimate version of Casino Royale on the big screen. I'd hate to se it become a box office disappointment - My 2nd favorite Bond movie (Licence to Kill) was a box office disappointment and has become a lightning rod and a very divisive Bond movie among the fans. I just don't want to see Casino Royale end up that way.

I do find it fitting and ironic that the new Bond has been announced on Roger Moore's (78th!) birthday.

So, no Q and no Moneypenny, as the current script stands.

Thought Craig looked good.

I'm also not convinced that that took place on this HMS President. It seemed to be at a Naval Training centre (boats rarely have brick walls!). I'd change the main page story.

- No Q or Moneypenny in the current script
- Still lots of action
- Over 200 names looked at for the role.
- Shooting in Italy in addition to The Bahamas, Prague, and Pinewood.
- Not gonna smoke for the sake "of the children", but he will kill people :)
- Connery is his favorite with "maybe" Goldfinger being his favorite film.
