I think that's an awesome way to intro the new Bond.Well done and good luck Mr.Craig;you may not have the ideal look but you have talent and a good voice, which is an underrated quality. I'll try to remember you don't write or direct these things! :)

I'm warming more and more to Daniel Craig being a spectacular Bond.

What did it for me was seeing Layer Cake. As I posted elsewhere, he reminds me of Steve McQueen in The Thomas Crown Affair. Steve McQueen as Bond - how cool is that?

It should be interesting to see how many posters now will be pushing candidates for Vesper and for LeChiffre. Just relax and enjoy, gang, this will be fun...

They looked all over the UK and the British colonies for the next Bond.

It was never offered to anyone else.

The Fiat thing is just a rumour.

Craig knew he had the part on Monday.

He won

Man, it's been tough to get on (and stay on) here today!

I watched most of the BBC live feed of the press conference. What a thrill!

Observations:

Why doesn't Barbara talk more? She seems quite chatty on the dvd features.

Mikey G. was his usual self. I always get the feeling he's amused at the whole affair, and can't quite believe all these suckers (the press, the fans) keep coming back for more.

Campbell seemed pretty jazzed up for it. I kept wondering if he was bitter that they'd signed Craig (maybe that rumour was crap, though).

Craig looked good, and that voice--perfect. That's his best feature. I was remembering that in Layer Cake, you hear his voice before you see him onscreen. Very effective that.

Craig did seem rather nervy. It IS a big-time event, but you've got to rise to it, man! You're Bond now, buddy. Time to nut up.

I LOVE that first promotional pic they've posted. Bodes VERY well for things to come IMO.

The questions from the press were indeed inane. Why not have CBn'ers asking the questions? :)

REALLY like hearing they're taking the Vesper role very seriously. Who will they cast? The next big debate! :)

Pinewood, Prague, The Bahamas AND Italy? Sweet!!!!

Please tell me someone recorded that Press Conference. I'd like to see it again (without my daughter tugging at my shirt and asking for more cream of wheat).

I like the new logo. I'm sure that's not the final product, but something in that direction is appropo (i.e., no space age fonts, etc.)

Still can't believe they're casting Daniel [censored]ing Craig. Big brass balls from all concerned. They've probably denied themselves a good 100 million in revenue, UNLESS, they make a kick-:) thriller. Which, after seeing that first promo shot of Craig, I think they just might do.

Strange, yet exciting times in Bond-dom.

I'm exhausted. :)

This is the time we have all been waiting for. The first Bond pic of Craig I think is quite good. Any idea how we might be able to see the press conference online?

We have a Bond! The weird thing is that although I would never in a million years, and looking at 200 actors, have chosen him as Bond he is now Bond in my eyes.

I think this choice bodes well for Casino Royale. I can't believe it's a whole year until we'll get to see it...

When asked at the press conference, he said he wouldn't.

I hope he doesn't. I think he looks ten times better blonde than dark.

He's very camp, isn't he? Not a particularly high brow observation, but...:)

Craig seemed fine. Not naturally outgoing, but who said that's his job? I'm sure he's getting over the shock. Even if he''s wrong for the role (which I don't think he is at all) at the very least this is all going to be very interesting. Casino suddenly feels fresh, doesn't it?

All of this is very cool news. Very, very, very cool news indeed. Just about the best day for Bond news ever (I know that many will strongly disagree). :)

As for whether or not Craig will dye his hair, frankly, I don't care. But I very much doubt that it's been firmly decided at this stage.

Nice also to know that Craig seems to have Brosnan's blessing, and that the two of them appear to get on.

A couple of questions:

Who's the guy sitting next to Campbell?

Was there any talk from Eon of "We'd like to thank Pierce Brosnan for his contribution...."? If not, am I right in thinking that Eon has never commented on Broz's departure in any way at all? If so, is this a first?

Is CBn undergoing some technical problems right now?

There was no mention of Bros from MGW or BB. Craig sort of mentioned him a couple of times.

Did you not see any of it, Loomis? The full thing is on a constant loop on Sky news active (press the red button, as they say) if that's any good to you. I think you'll like what you see, mate. :)

At first I was really sketchy about Daniel Craig, but I'm really taking to him. I can't wait for this installment, personally. I look forward for this exciting change, and hopefully DO focus more on character and less on gadgets. Character development is crucial, especially for a new Bond and company. Hopefully that means more stunts and less CGI, as well!

And thank you to CBn for your great coverage over the past 3 years, since DAD came out, you were always on the ball. Thanks.

Nah, I didn't see it. And, besides, I don't have Sky, or indeed anything other than the five terrestrial channels. So any and all transcripts and nuggets of info to do with the conference here on CBn will be gratefully received. :)

Does Craig really look like Bond in that pic? Or does he more resemble a Bond villian? I'm not sure which.

BTW, while I understand and sympathise with Brosnan's more devoted supporters, who must be feeling pretty put out, I'm a bit saddened to read long-term Bond fans posting things like "That's it, I'm totally done with the franchise now". While I'm sure that many, if not most, will return to the fold when CASINO ROYALE opens, all I can say is:

They could have done much, much, much worse than Craig.

I'm delighted by today's news, and I'm sure that Craig will be a terrific Bond in many ways, but that doesn't mean that I don't have my reservations about him too. I've written a lot lately that I was split down the middle on Craig and thought I'd be 50% absolutely delighted and 50% utterly horrified if he were cast. Now that it's happened, it's more like 90% absolutely delighted and 10% a little wary. But that's okay. Seems to me that most fans want to view this news as either the best thing that's ever happened to the Bond franchise, or the very worst. But why? Where's the balance? The middle ground? The okay-this-is-pretty-interesting-and-while-it-may-have-the-potential-to-go-horribly-wrong-let's-still-wait-and-see-who-knows-it-could-actually-be-amazing attitude?

And, finally the rampant speculation is over!

I'm disappointed Brosnan is officially gone, but I'm also happy because the annoying speculation is now over as to who would replace him.

Like a lot of people I was sceptial about Craig some months ago being mentioned as a candidate, but I've warmed to the idea of him.

This hopefully will bring about an exciting new era of gritty down-to-earth Bond films devoid of CGI and silly invisible cars. Craig might not look the most obvious Bond. However, he has that rugged look where you just end up thinking - "This guy just won't get a DAD to do. It will more of a spy film".

Happy happy Scottlee.

If I have worry it is the fact he has apparantly only committed to one film (with so called "options" for more).

Anybody else see a sort of Sean Connery appeal in that photo? I don't know what it is, maybe a bit of that and the Casino Royale flash intro with the original James Bond theme.. or something.. but I'm totally picking up on this vibe.

I like it.

Anyhoo.. took 5 minutes out of my day to photo-chop some stuff together. Not so bad. I'm obviously not a professional :)
