That was a disaster! Like an 80s-mid 90s Super bowl. But don't feel too bad Dove-at least ya'll made it. Manning joins Marino and Brady as TD record holders who lost the SB. It happens(I think Brady has the ultimate SB failure). ;)

Next year...

So Manning doesn't exactly have Nerves of Steel.  I get it.  Now that this one is out of our system, let's get ready for next season and our next Super Bowl appearance!

GO BRONCOS

And congrats to the Seasicks for their first SB win

Cheers pals!! Still kind of in a funk (unpleasent memories of 23 years ago when Montana and the 49ers put a 55 - 10 beat down on Elway and Co,) but I'll get over it..Yes it was a remarkable season..one for the books..And all that speculation that Peyton will call it a career now that the season is over..SQUASHED..NO WAY he wants to go out with such a bad taste in his mouth.. He'll be back under center in 2014..So that's a good thing.

Now to dtuba, Congrats man on your Seahawks getting their first Super Bowl victory!! They deserve it... Russell Wilson is just a remarkable QB and man, that defense..Wow..certainly up there with Buddy Ryan's 1985 Chicago Bears D. I was rooting for Seattle in SB XL when they lost to the Steelers, so its nice that they finally win one.

BTW, Tarl..Congrats on Philip Rivers getting the 2013 NFL Comeback Player of the year!

Right..now for a break from Sports for me for a while..NBA doesn't have me interested too much as my Nuggets are just floundering this year with all the injuries and the Celtics are in a rebuilding phase...playoffs look like a long shot for both..think it's a good time for a Bond marathon to start the anticipation flowing as we get closer and closer to the pre-production on Bond 24..

I don't care who played QB for Denver yesterday-they would have lost with anyone. That defense was spectacular. People forget they also beat the other team that threw for 5000 yards(and 39 tds), the Saints. Seattle's offense was mediocre and still won.

 DEFENSE WINS CHAMPIONSHIPS™

Dear Chargers,

Now that you drafted a much needed OT in the first round last year please draft a denfender(db) in rd 1 this May( sucks the draft is now in May!!).

:)

A belated congrats to the Seahawks, they deserved the W and were the best of the NFL this season.

Dove-I know how you feel. While the sting of the loss will hurt for a while, in time it will pass.

Anxiously awaiting the start of Free Agency and the Draft!

That was more than a loss for my Doncos.  That was public humiliation on the world stage.

Watching the fallout in Denver, it looks like this debacle will leave a semi-permanent mark on the organization.  We learned that as good as PM is he cannot carry this team all the way to the top; pundits are expecting that many personnel changes will mark the off season and that in particular some attention will paid to adding run blockers to the O-line and developing a power running game.  Peyton needs a running attack as Elway needed his Terrell Davis to finally close the deal.

GO BRONCOS

Starting to finally get over the Stupid (not a typo on my part...LOL) Bowl funk..though I still refuse to watch any replays that might be show on ESPN..LOL... Ahh well we do get a revenge chance this coming season as Denver is scheduled to play the NFC West, which includes a visit to Seattle. Biggest concern now is free agency and the fact we most likely will be losing Eric Decker and Knowshown Moreno and while it's sad, it was hardly unexpected that we said bye-bye to Champ Bailey.

Congrats to your Broncos.  They just got much better in the span of 24 hours.  Which is a scary concept considering how good they were last year when they were already suffering from some injuries to key guys, who they'll also get back for 2014.

On my side, got to hand it to John Idzik.  You're sitting on the fifth most cap space in the league (roughly $40 million) and you've done nothing, unless you count letting the entire right side of your O-Line walk out the door.  That's okay, though.  Eric Decker will fix all our problems on offense, and our brilliant scouting department will get the rest of it fixed via the draft.

I don't think too many teams are going to like seeing Denver on their schedule next year...Holy free agency.

Well, FA is fraught with risk but you gotta admit that Elway and team are pushing in all the chips--a la 007 in Casino Royale!

Decker has been visiting with the Jets for what seems like the majority of the day today.  I'm not sure what's going on there, but they need a lot more than Decker at WR.  Signing Decker will just give them another #2 receiver, something that they already have their fair share of, even if he'd be the best of the lot.

As for the QB, I'd have Geno as the starter or in a competition with Michael Vick.  Cut Sanchez and use that cap space to go sign Darelle Revis.

The Pats can have him.  They just surrendered almost all of what little cap space they had.  Meanwhile, the Jets have ample cap room to go get more receivers.  If they can go get James Jones and/or Emmanuel Sanders (although I hear he really likes Jacksonville) and then draft a WR in the first round, then that renders the Revis deal a moot point.  I actually think the Revis deal made the Patriots a bit worse in the grand scheme of things (i.e. they'll have to deal with his drama, they've made it impossible now due to limited cap space to upgrade the receiver position, etc.), even if their defense did get better.

Doesn't matter, though. New England, along with Denver, is still the class of the AFC. They'll be able to do enough in the draft to upgrade what they need to. I'm not worried and I think Revis can at least provide a boost to the defense. Losing Talib hurts though.

New England's window is closing, thankfully.  They'll win the AFC East again this year, but I think we're nearing the point where the rest of the division is going to start catching up with them.

And I'll say this for all the Patriots fans who are elated that they have Revis.  As great as he is (and he is great, there is no doubt), he is the ultimate me-first player, who is interested in one thing, and one thing only, and that's being the highest paid player at his position. There's a reason that the Jets fan base wasn't all that upset when he was traded.

Well, (attempting to avoid starting a Pats-Jets argument), in New England we've had our fair share of me-first players *cough cough* Ty Law, Richard Seymour, Willie McGinest, Deion Branch, Randy Moss, Aaron I just murdered 3 people Hernandez *cough cough*. Not that I'm singling any one player out. However, if there is one coach in the league that can whip Revis into shape, it's Belichick. Having said that, I'd much rather have Richard Sherman than Revis. I will take Revis though, no question especially with Wilfork apparently wanting out of NE now.

Well, (attempting to avoid starting a Pats-Jets argument),

I don't think there's any danger of that happening.  I feel like, once we reach this time of the offseason next year, the Jets and Pats fans are finally going to find something to agree on.  Believe me, you're going to love Revis right up until the moment that word leaks out of the front office that they're beginning contract negotiations on an extension (there's no way that the Pats are going to exercise their $20 million option on him for 2015).  At that point, he'll find a way to negatively impact the team until he gets what he wants.  He drew all the attention away from the team during the 2010 preseason when the Jets were actually entering the season as legitimate Super Bowl contenders for the first time since 1999, and he made the entire pre-season, from March 1 until Labor Day, all about him.

He's already had a negative impact on the Pats, what with the whole Vince Wilfork situation that went down today.  I seriously doubt that the front office asks a mainstay of the organization, and a very good player when fully healthy, to take a paycut like that if they hadn't just used up roughly 80% of their available cap space in the form of Revis' contract.

I like the Vick signing, mainly due to the fact that it would seem to make a trade for DeSean Jackson much more likely.  By cutting Sanchez, we take roughly $8 million off the books and then spend only $5 million of that on a replacement that's a better QB.  Sounds like a good deal to me.

But, I still hope that Geno beats him out in training camp for the starting job.  The Jets, more than just about any other franchise, really need to find a true franchise QB.  If only Bill Parcells and Vinny Testaverde had teamed up in New York a few years earlier than they did, we might have had our first franchise QB since Namath hung it up back in the day.  Still, some 40 years out, they're still searching, so I'm really hoping that Geno turns out to be that guy.

The real fun behind all of this, though, has been looking at all the self righteous Jets fans posting things like "I'll never root for the team again because they signed Vick" and stuff like that.  It's as if the Jets have only employed choir boys to this point, which is the most laughable thing I've heard in a while.

I thought Geno Smith was considered the new franchise QB? If not the Jets organization just drafted him to lit a fire up Sanchez's behind in hopes he would have stepped up his game which obviously failed because of his injury. The Jets reached for Smith at the draft, and I just have no confidence in him yet to justify for him becoming the franchise QB. The Vick signing is just a stop-gap. Once again the Jets are just doing a wait and see approach once again for this season. Vick will be a good mentor, but his body can't handle the game anymore. And their O-line is aging and lacks depth. Don't see any good things this year for the Jets.

Geno still has to prove that he's the franchise QB.  He made some strides in that department towards the end of last season, but he's not there yet.

The Vick signing plays right into Idzik's mantra of competition at every position, a philosophy that he brings with him from Seattle.  Seattle made a massive amount of roster transactions over the course of the seasons since Carrol took over leading up to their Super Bowl win.  They always look to bring in competiton for people and, if the new guy is better, then he stays.  Nobody's job is secure, and it's that mindset that led to Russell Wilson taking the starting job away from Matt Flynn.  Idzik's now bringing the same philosophy to New York and, so far, I think he's got things on the right track.

The team is already much better thanks to Idzik's so-far excellent offseason, and if he can acquire DeSean Jackson, either via trade or free agency (word is he'll be cut if not traded), then that gives the Jets an excellent receiving corps for either Vick or Smith to work with, plus whatever WRs they acquire in the draft.  For all the talk about how far away the Jets are from getting back to being contenders, they're not as far as everyone says.  They can compete for a WC spot this year (they're in a much better position to do so this year than last, when they made it to December as playoff hopefuls), and are maybe another offseason away.

The thing I'm most impressed with is how Idzik has managed the cap.  We've acquired arguably the top receiver in free agency (Decker), the top QB in free agency (Vick), and upgraded the RT position (Giacomini) without hardly spending any of the team's cap space.

100% the right move.  The only problem is that they haven't truly settled the issue.  He's still coaching for his job this year, and if they don't make the playoffs or win at least 10 games, he'll be fired.  And when the Jets fire Ryan, it'll be one of the dumbest moves in the history of a franchise that has made its living on dumb decisions.

If the front office gives them enough time, the team of Rex Ryan and Marty Mornhinweg will get the franchise to a Super Bowl.  If Rex's defense could carry a Brian Schottenheimer-led offense to within a game of the Super Bowl twice, then once they rebuild surely a real OC like Mornhinweg can push them over the top.

Well its now official that Mark Sanchez and Michael Vick have swapped teams.. Sanchez has signed with the Philadelphia Eagles.. I just hope he doesn't try and sneak eat a cheesesteak sandwich on the sidelines...those Eagles fans are not as forgiving as others in the league.. :P

Meanwhile, the Broncos continue to lose key players to other teams via free agency.. DE Shaun Phillips signed with the Tennessee Titans and it's at last official that Knowshon Moreno is a Miami Dolphin..I'm still scratching my head at why Elway and Co. didn't even try to pony up and resign Moreno. So now the pressure is on BIG time for Montee Ball and Ronnie Hillman to hold on to the ball!! They had better ramp up their ball security practices big time when training camp begins..

I'm glad that Michael Sam got drafted, although it's painfully and embarrassingly obvious why the SEC defensive player of the year fell to the seventh round. Shame on you NFL. Also, for that reason, I hope that Don Jones is released by the Dolphins and never plays another game in the NFL.
