Congrats to Eli and the Giants..Even though I was rooting for New England, I can't help but admire and like Manning Jr. He's now got one more ring than big Bro, Peyton and won it in P's house in Indy.. Man it was a helluva game this year! Even Madonna was ok...certainly WAY better than the Black Eyed Peas last year!

Seems M.I.A is making news for her use of her middle finger during Madonna's halftime performance. I expected to see Britney Spears or Eminem or someone like that get to perform. Seems every musical act got In on. The show.

Of course this was her first time performing at the Super Bowl halftime show & doesn't count for her previous performances in the locker rooms after Super Bowl's or in locker rooms for the NBA finals.

Rumors are going around saying the Rams are shopping the 2nd overall pick. IMO they should keep it to draft Okie St WR Justin Blackmon.

The longer Drew Brees remains unsigned the more likely it is the Saints lose Pro Bowl Guard Carl Nicks. Sigh. Just get this done-PLEASE!

The 1st game of the NFL Season will be on a Wednesday since that Thursday will be President Obama's Democrat Party Acceptance Speech.

IMO-maybe the Democrats could have scheduled their convention the week before & not screw up football. I won't get into politics here.

If I were the Colts i'd strongly start considering taking RG3 instead of Luck but with that unlikely to happen it seems it's down to the Browns and the Redskins. Not a fan of either team but I rather see RG3 go to the Redskins. I see the Rams picking up wide receiver Justin Blackmon a few spots down.

I am glad Greg Williams & the Saints defense put bounties on opposing players. IMO the players of today are pussies. this is a full contact sport the last time I checked, and these are adults playing the game. Did the poor baby get hurt? Hey, it's part of the game pantywaste. Men are meant to play this game. Plus we won a title, so to hell with this 'controversey'. This isn't College, this is Professional Football. I think it will be interesting to see what the penalty ends up being handed down by the NFL, especially for Greg Williams. Some of the players who have been fined multiple times or suspended for hits where it was obvious that they were not trying to intentionally hurt another player will have a real legitimate argument against the league if they fail to suspend Williams for multiple games from his new job in St. Louis in addition to forcing him to pay a massive fine.

Lengthy and unprecedented suspensions appear to be coming for those involved in the Saints’ practice of paying bounties to players who injured opponents. Mark Maske of the Washington Post reports that the NFL is considering long suspensions for head coach Sean Payton, General Manager Mickey Loomis, former defensive coordinator Gregg Williams and players who were involved in bounties.How long? Maske cited an unnamed source who said suspensions could be half a season or longer. One person familiar with the NFL’s thinking on the matter mentioned the decision in 1963 by NFL Commissioner Pete Rozelle to suspend Packers running back Paul Hornung and Lions defensive tackle Alex Karras for an entire season for gambling.

What is clear is that NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell is preparing to come down hard. After the Spygate scandal, Goodell stripped the Patriots of a first-round pick, fined Bill Belichick $500,000 and fined the Patriots $250,000. All indications are that the sanctions for the Saints will be significantly more severe.

Goodell has to come down hard on the coaches and team executives involved, otherwise he won't have any credibility when it comes to discipline down the line. He's perceived, especially by the players but also I think in general, as being too soft on ownership, executives, and coaches while being particularly harsh on the players. After letting the Patriots pretty much off the hook for their Spygate activities, he has to come down hard on this matter or otherwise he will have little to no credibility left, IMO.

Let me clear up my comments now that I am not shifaced as I was when I wrote them:

On every level a bounty system is in place-in high school we got a tomahawk sticker for big hits. In some colleges the player who gets the big hit of the game can get a special locker or have their name on a wall. I dont oppose Professionals getting a few extra bucks for making a big hit-as long as its clean & legal. If the player intends to take out someone illegally then & only then IMO does it need to stop. I do understand its against NFL rules & if Mr. Goodell suspends Williams & Sean Payton I will not object. I just wanted to make my point a bit clearer, thanks for the time to read it.

I don't have a problem with the kind of system like we see in the high schools, which rewards players with stickers for their helmets for meeting certain performance goals (sacks, INTs, TDs, whatever). I also don't particularly mind players getting excited for one another when someone makes a good, clean hit that doesn't result in an injury. In the NFL, if a player wants to reward another with extra cash for making a good play (that doesn't result in injury to another player), then, while it might not be something that I particularly like, I can live with it.

With that said, though, when the coach is involved (or, as is apparent in this case, actually running the operation), I have a big problem with that. The coaches are supposed to know better and are supposed to be held to a higher standard. If I were Goodell, Gregg Williams would be suspended for the year, if not longer. Sean Payton and the Saints' GM should receive rather lengthy suspensions as well. And, just for the record as I'm not a fan of the Saints, I would support the exact same sanctions if it came out that Rex Ryan and Mike Pettine of the Jets were guilty of the same offenses.

The one thing I do hope that comes out of this whole discussion, though, is the outright hypocrisy of the NFL. They claim to be all about player safety, but the only players they care about are the ones that get the headlines and that you actually see in the spotlight on TV. The game has not gotten any safer for the offensive and defensive linemen, but that's OK because they're not viewed as "playmakers", even though the game is won and lost by them more often than by any other position player. James Harrison gets fined and suspended left and right for vicious hits and if Gregg Williams gets let off the hook with a fairly light sentence (which is what happened the last time Goodell was supposedly going to "drop the hammer", when he barely slapped the Patriots on the wrist for SpyGate), then he and the NFL will lose whatever sliver of credibility they have left.

Hmm.. well take heart hcmv...at least the Saints aren't as nearly as disfunctional as say...the Cincinnati Bengals! That whole refuse-to-trade-Carson Palmer fiasco, Chad Ochostinko and the T.O. show, the expectation that EVERY year at least one Bengals player gets arrested for off the field issues...yikes! I think the Saints still have a bright future ahead...Mickey Loomis just needs a good kick in the to get him to wake up and make peace with Brees..Hey, at least he isn't Donald Sterling of the LA Clippers!

I'm not sure that the Carson Palmer deal was a fiasco at all for the Bengals. It may have taken them roughly half the season, but they made out very well in that trade, and got a really good young QB in the draft as well. I think replacing Palmer with Dalton and Ochocinco with Green with a couple of first rounders tacked onto the top of that is a pretty good season of work for the Bengals front office.


On a separate note, now that Peyton Manning is expected to be released by the Colts, Mike Tannenbaum and Rex Ryan need to get to work to make him a Jet. It probably won't happen, but they need to get that done. Either they land him and become an instant contender or they really motivate Sanchez with their pursuit of Manning to really step up and prove that he's worth another contract in another year.

Manning should go to the Denver Broncos. He could start for 2 seasons and mentor Tebow. After a couple of SB rings he tosses the keys Timmy and rides into the Colorado sunset with a big ole grin on his mug. It's perfect.
