Super Bowl Predictions

I do, however, like the over/under line of 46.5.
Given the stingy Pittsburg D, i'm inclined to take the under in the game.
Honestly, I think highly of Warner, but the Steelers have maintained their number one ranking on Total Defence and Scoring Defence. They're very good on the line, very good at the line-backer level, very good in the secondary.
Plus, the Cards are a one-dimentional squad and the Steelers know that. They know Warner will be throwing.
Also, I don't see the Steelers racking up a lot of points and I don't see them letting Arizona score more than 17 points. Pittsburg's defense is too good.
Arizona's only hope is if Pittsburg kills itself by coughing up the football and having too many turnovers...like Carolina did in their playoff game.
Under 'normal' circumstances, I think Pittsburg scores between 21 and 24 points and allows Warner and Arizona to score between 14 and 17 points.

Judging from a lot of other internet message boards and from talking to others, this appears to be another Super Bowl that is going to be tainted to some degree by the horrible officiating. To me, this is unacceptable, with all of the millions of dollars that are a part of this game, one would think that the league could put some of that money towards better training of their officials or towards paying to get better officials to work their games. The talk after a Super Bowl should not be about the officiating, but about what happened on the field. This was a great game, and I say this not as a fan of either team, but I honestly feel as though Arizona played every bit as well as Pittsburgh, if not better. There were countless times that the Cardinals stopped the Steelers on third down to force a punt only to have a very questionable penalty called to extend the drive for the Steelers. The roughing the passer call in the third quarter, as well as very questionable illegal contact penalties made this game look and feel a lot like Super Bowl XL, where the Seahawks ran into similar problems.
Even though many were saying that Kurt Warner's Hall of Fame chances were tied to the outcome of this game, I think that he deserves to make it. He's been a class act in this league for a long time on top of being an exceptional player, and he's still one of only a very small number of QBs to take 2 different teams to the Super Bowl.

I think the biggest question of the night is wether or not Namath would be drunk presenting the trophy.

Nothing against him or anything, just MHO.

I'm not so sure he's a Hall of Famer. He is certainly not first ballot by any means. He's really had only 5 years good years that were separated by some truly awful ones. Not really the kind of consistency that comes to my mind for a HOF'er.

Maybe not first ballot, you're right, but I do think that he deserves to be there.
Just to put some stats (from a few sites, mainly ESPN.com and NFL.com) out there in favor of Warner:
- Career passer rating: 93.2 (3rd All-Time)
- Led the NFL in Completion Pct. 3 times (tied for 3rd All-Time)
- 65.09 career completion pct. (2nd All-Time)
- Has thrown for 300 yards in a game 7+ times in a season 4 times in career (3 times w/ Rams, this season with Cardinals)
- Top 3 highest passing totals in Super Bowl history (414 vs. Titans, 377 vs. Steelers, 365 vs. Patriots)
- 28,591 yards passing (4,533 yards fewer than Hall of Famer Steve Young, who played in 4 more seasons than Warner)
- One of only 3 QBs to take two different teams to the Super Bowl.

What a game!
Now on to the Dark Times-no football But fear not! Soon the NFL Draft will approach us! I'm trying to make time to list the prospects, I hope to break down team draft needs soon. I'll have my mock draft done the Thursday before the actual draft. TTYL!

A great game, but one that will, for me, be remembered more for the awful officiating and the terrible halftime show more than anything else.

It was a very enjoyable football game.
As for half-time? Well, it's got nothing to do with the football players and the play calling. I usually do something else during halftime.
And thank the good Lord for instant replays and challenges. Long gone are the days when games were decided on a call by humans/officials. At least last night all the challenged calls went the 'right' way and the game had a 'legitimate' and un-questioned outcome, something which we never even had the choice of in the not too distant past.
Again, great football game.

Also, with Miami's success last year, Buffalo's improvements and acquisition of T.O., as well as the vast improvements the Jets have made this offseason, it looks like the AFC East is back on top of the league in terms of being the best and most competitive division in the league.

too bad for you that Brady will be back...and me too.
That doesn't really bother me too much. I think that our defense has improved so much this offseason, and the team mindset with Ryan at the helm is such that, for the first time in a long time, I don't think the Jets will be intimidated by the Patriots, no matter who they have at QB. We've always been able to at least make most of our games with the Pats competitive, no matter how bad our team is, so I'm hoping that this new and improved Jets team (probably the best team, on paper, since the 1998 team that went to the AFC Championship game) will be able to overtake the Patriots and join the ranks of the AFC elite.
Even if it doesn't get done this season, though, I'm actually excited about this team's prospects for the near future (2010, the year that the new stadium opens, should be THE year for the Jets) for the first time in over a decade.

2010: the year we make contact !
Maybe the franchise will finally take that step towards being relevant rather than a punchline for the media and the newspapers.

-TJ Houshmanzadeh is now a Seahawk, so that should be a fit, but expect a WR to be taken by them at some point in the draft. It may be time to start thinking about the future (Rebuilding)
-Jay Cutler and Josh McDaniel might be the most dysfunctional QB/Coach relationship the NFL has seen in a while. They have yet to play a game together, and it seems they won't coexist. I smell a draft day trade with the Bucs.
Anywho, the Draft is 6 weeks away, and soon so will my blog! After taking last year off, due to family and health reasons I hope to come back, with a new look and lots of new info. I'll do a mock draft in a few weeks.

Ahh now to business...
I am just in total disbelief and shock and embarassment at this whole Jay Cutler vs Josh McDaniels situation. It's making my Broncos look like the disfunctional Oakland Raiders!!! (and you know our resident Chargers fan, Tarl_Cabot is just licking his chops!!) LOL..
So my thoughts as a Broncos fan...
At this point I'm blaming three sides... Pat Bowlen, who never should have fired Shanahan..he should have kept him as coach but relieved him of GM duties, Josh McDaniels and Brian Xanders..for being too quiet and making no sort of public comments to squash the whole situation when it came to boil..and most all (at this point at least) Jay Cutler... At first I was sort of inclined to take his side..sure anyone would be upset at the prospect of being traded..but really Jay will not let it go and get back to being a man about it.. Stop your whining Cutler!! Now that he's demanded a trade, I say Denver has to trade him...a lot of Broncos fans here in Colorado are starting to refer to Jay as a crybaby!!
The most logical trade scenario which has been mentioned a couple of times would be a three way: Cutler to the Jets, the Jets send draft picks to the Cleveland Browns, and the Browns send QB Brady Quinn to the Broncos...he's got experience in the kind of system that McDaniels is installing, so I would be VERY happy with that..

!!! I knew it... Unless my Broncos can get a really good QB, our season is toast without Cutler... Thanks Josh McDaniels and Brian Xanders and Pat Bowlen for ing this up!!

I wonder where he'll end up. My guess is Cleveland, since they have 2 QBs that they can trade to lessen the number of draft picks they would have to give up. Detroit and Tampa Bay also remain very strong possibilities, IMO.
There was once a time when I would have liked to have seen my Jets get him, but that time has come and gone, I think. I'd still be happy to have him, but not at a price that would include a 1st round draft pick (which we have to use on a wide receiver this year, otherwise whoever the QB is for the Jets won't have anyone to throw to anyway).

I guess Jay 'Jeff George 2.0' Cutler is really going out the door.
