What a career he had! I still remember all of those epic playoff games against Steve Young and my 49ers... and Favre winning almost all of them
Good luck, Brett.

*giving a standing ovation* Farewell Brett!! Congrats to you on a wonderful career.. You are a lock-in first ballot for the 2013 Hall of Fame.

But Seattle and L.A.(Raiders) probably feel even lamer for drafting two abject NFL failure QBs Dan Mcquire(16th) and Todd Marinovich(21st) ahead of the first ballot hall of famer who lasted until the second rd.
Anyway, good luck in retirement Brett...and if you change your mind, we'll be happy to see you back on the field. You earned that.

So.. now its the true test of Aaron Rodgers and the Packers!! Will they be as good a team this coming season?
Can Rodgers become the first QB to replace a legend and do okay? Or will Green Bay suffer the same fate as Denver replacing Elway, Dallas replacing Aikman, San Fransico replacing Montana, Young and Garcia, or Miami (who STILL hasn't gotten it right!!) replacing Marino?
Should be an interresting 2008 season..

Team needs-This weekend!

Other Broncos noteworthy signings..
We've signed former Detroit Lions linebacker, Boss Bailey. He'll be joining his brother Champ in our backfield so I'm really excited about that.. We also signed former Chiefs center Casey Wiegman.
Coaching changes.. Jim Bates, former defensive co-ordinator.. gone.. Mike Heimerdinger, former offensive coordinator and assistant coach..gone back to the Titans.
The biggest shocker was Shanahan firing Ted Sundquist, the Broncos GM for the past 16 years.. I really didn't see that one coming..

Broncos receiver Brandon Marshall was involved in a bizzare accident yesterday. He apparently slipped on an empty McDonald's bag and fell towards his TV. He put his arm out to brace his fall but his arm went through the tv and cut him quite badly. He needed several stitches and a cast..

This isn't the first bizzare injury to happen to my Broncos.. a few years ago, former QB Brian Griese tripped over his dog as he was going downstairs, fell and broke his ankle. That same season, if i remember rightly, Griese also fell down in Terrell Davis' driveway and got a black eye..Sheesh!! LOL

And now for some news on the funny side..

Didn't many people think Griese was just falling down drunk when he got 'hurt'? That's what I heard...I'm shocked at the Elam story. I know he's going to a dome but that mile high altitude is a huge advantage! Great news for my Chargers though!
Shanahan fired the GM? I thought he was the GM and how can a coach can a GM if he's not the # 1 executive? And, aren't you getting a little tired of Shanahan? I mean, wouldn't you have liked to see Kubiak take over already?

I eagerly look forward to a rematch with your San Diego Chargers this year..and hopefully they will be much more competetive!! losing like 43-3 and 44-10 or whatever the scores were was humiliating!! I think that if we hadn't had Jason Elam's field goal in the first game you guys would have blanked us!! LOL
What non-division opponents do your Chargers have this coming season Tarl?
We have Buffalo, Tampa Bay, Miami, Jacksonville, New Orleans, Cleveland, Atlanta (hello Jason Elam!), New York Jets, Carolina and New England.
Some are obviously pre-season games but I don't know the exact schedule yet..

our schedule not including AFC west rivals:
Home:Pats and Colts (!) this year and we get Atlanta(Micheal Turner reunion),Jets and Panthers(love these latter 3 easy games).
Away: The Saints in the U.K.That shoulda been in SD or N.O. for the Brees/Rivers match up.
Away in USA: Pittsburg,Tampa,and Miami.
I'd say 12-4 to 14-2 looks doable barring injuries.

WR Chris Henry is in trouble (AGAIN!!) with the law.. On Monday he was charged with punching an 18 year old in the face and breaking a car window with a beer bottle.
Breaking news today on nfl.com says that the Bengals have cut Chris Henry.. About freakin time I say! The guy is a true waste of talent.. and didn't he already serve an 8 games suspension last year? No word yet on what Goodell is going to do to him this time, but my money is on a full year suspension so chances that he'll go to another team this coming season are zero!
Any thoughts, RichmondSpy?

Some NFL News to share:
-Do NOT expect to see Chris Henry in the NFL until at least 2009, the rumor is the Commish will suspend him the entire season, even if a plea deal is reached or charges are dropped.
-Pacman Jones could be a Cowboy after the draft is over, I expect him to be given a chance this season, and going to Dallas. But expect him to be back after the draft takes place.
-Chris Long, Jake Long, and Vernon Gholston-One of these men will be the top pick.

If your local cable provider does not get the NFL Network, I suggest DirecTV, on the plus side you get the entire NFL games available every week, so you can watch the best match up possible, if your local networks get a bad game.

Question: Which teams do you think would take a gamble on Chad Johnson? Would you like your team to?
(My Broncos wouldn't.. we just bolstered our receiving corps by signing former Seahawks WR Darrel Jackson, and former Chiefs WR Samie Parker).
BREAKING NEWS 4/17:
Ravens QB Steve McNair is retiring.. He informed the team this morning that he intends to retire. I guess that a press conference is scheduled for later today. Such a shame, McNair was one of the toughest players I've seen.. he battled so many injuries and bounced back pretty well. However in the end, he just didn't have enough left in the tank.. so maybe his retirement might be better for the Ravens.. they can start fresh with a younger QB.

Oh, and note to Chad-you have a contract, and you damn well better live up to it. Quit your whining, be a man, and play for the Bengals in 2008. After the season is over, and you have finished destroying the team you can always join the Cowboys in 2009.

In more stunning news, the Seattle Seahawks have cut running back Shaun Alexander. After being the MVP in 2005, Alexander bitched and moaned about wanting a long term multi-million dollar contract. Then, Oops!! His production on the field went WAY downhill the next two seasons. Plagued with injuries and not even showing much effort when he did play, Alexander's fall from greatness is just shocking.. Sure he'll end up somewhere else this season, but the question remains will he return to his '05 MVP form?

Jared Allen is no longer a Chief, and is now a Viking and the highest paid player in the NFL on defense. The Chiefs like Dallas have 2 1st round picks now. Hopefully I can get a mock draft up, as some other talk is brewing about the 2nd, 5th, and 7th picks possibly being traded.

Well day #1 is over.. How did everyone's teams do? So far the Broncos drafted Ryan Clady OT from Boise State (HAH!! a Boise State Bronco is becoming a Denver Bronco! ) and we also got WR Eddie Royal from Virginia Tech.. We don't pick again til the 4th round tomorrow. Overall I'm pleased with our picks today.. We desperately needed some more pass rushing players and Royal will be a good complement to Brandon Marshall and Brandon Stokely this season.. Sadly I fear Rod Smith is going to make his retirement official soon.
I hope we get some good defensive players tomorrow..

As a part-time Bears fan I'm dissapointed they didn't grab Brian Brohm-who woulda thought Green Bay was gonna take a QB after having Aaron Rodgers sit behind Farve for 3 years...weird pic.

My new hometown (and growing guilty pleasure team) Falcons picked up Georgia Tech destroyer Matt Ryan.
Didn't watch any of the draft, but made sure to check in this morning to see Philip Wheeler and Tashard Choice drafted in the 3rd round. Not sure I can accept Choice being a Cowboy though...
