I have a cut finger, so typing is a huge pain, no stitches, so that's good.

I hope to post draft needs here and on my blog. TTYL!

According to Yahoo! Brett Favre is retiring.

What a career he had! I still remember all of those epic playoff games against Steve Young and my 49ers... and Favre winning almost all of them

Good luck, Brett.

Wow! I kind of saw this coming, but then I was also expecting Brett to come back.. But I guess it makes sense for him to call it a career after having one helluva season last year and breaking just about all the passing records..

*giving a standing ovation* Farewell Brett!! Congrats to you on a wonderful career.. You are a lock-in first ballot for the 2013 Hall of Fame.

Congrats to Brett Farve on an amazing career. I'm pleased to say I saw him play live twice against San Diego at Lambeau this year(in one of his best performances in years that maybe set up his whole '07 campaign) and at Soldier field against the Bears in 2003 when they re-opened the stadium after the renivation. I was on the fieled in the end zone before the game and Farve walked by me...a few feet away, he looks alot bigger than his 6'2 profile suggests. I have followed his career since before he was drafted because former SD GM had rated him as the best QB in the '91 draft and so I was expecting the Chargers to take a chance on him. I watched the East-West all star game with great interest because I wanted to scout this guy from Miss. The Chargers drafted Stanley "The Sheriff" Richard instead,a pretty good free safety from Texas that played for just 4 years before jumping ship to the Redskins after a lousy SB performance against the 49ers...Yeah, Farve would have been the better option!!!! :(

But Seattle and L.A.(Raiders) probably feel even lamer for drafting two abject NFL failure QBs Dan Mcquire(16th) and Todd Marinovich(21st) ahead of the first ballot hall of famer who lasted until the second rd.

Anyway, good luck in retirement Brett...and if you change your mind, we'll be happy to see you back on the field. You earned that.

Just watched some of Favre's farewell press conference.. Very emotional!! Its hard, even as a fan of other NFL teams, not to get teary!! The guy is a legend!! With Brett retiring we've now entered a new era of the NFL.. All the great ones that I grew up with are now retired.. Elway, Marino, Montana, Aikman, Young, Favre.. Well guys like Brady and Manning are now in their own class. Again, my congratulations to Brett Favre on a magical career.. I look forward to seeing you in the yellow Hall of Fame jacket 5 years from now!!

So.. now its the true test of Aaron Rodgers and the Packers!! Will they be as good a team this coming season?

Can Rodgers become the first QB to replace a legend and do okay? Or will Green Bay suffer the same fate as Denver replacing Elway, Dallas replacing Aikman, San Fransico replacing Montana, Young and Garcia, or Miami (who STILL hasn't gotten it right!!) replacing Marino?

Should be an interresting 2008 season..

Jason Elam, who has been the trusty kicker for my Denver Broncos for the past 15 years, has left and signed a 4 year deal with the Atlanta Falcons!! This really hurts.. If our offense is as anemic this coming season as it was this past year, we are screwed!! We won't have good ol' reliable Elam anymore. Elam is perhaps best remembered for his tying Tom Dempsey with a 63 yard field goal back in 1998 against the Jaguars.. Good luck in Atlanta Jason!! We'll miss you!!

Other Broncos noteworthy signings..

We've signed former Detroit Lions linebacker, Boss Bailey. He'll be joining his brother Champ in our backfield so I'm really excited about that.. We also signed former Chiefs center Casey Wiegman.

Coaching changes.. Jim Bates, former defensive co-ordinator.. gone.. Mike Heimerdinger, former offensive coordinator and assistant coach..gone back to the Titans.

The biggest shocker was Shanahan firing Ted Sundquist, the Broncos GM for the past 16 years.. I really didn't see that one coming..

And now for some news on the funny side..

Broncos receiver Brandon Marshall was involved in a bizzare accident yesterday. He apparently slipped on an empty McDonald's bag and fell towards his TV. He put his arm out to brace his fall but his arm went through the tv and cut him quite badly. He needed several stitches and a cast..

http://www.nfl.com/n...mp;confirm=true

This isn't the first bizzare injury to happen to my Broncos.. a few years ago, former QB Brian Griese tripped over his dog as he was going downstairs, fell and broke his ankle. That same season, if i remember rightly, Griese also fell down in Terrell Davis' driveway and got a black eye..Sheesh!! LOL

Didn't many people think Griese was just falling down drunk when he got 'hurt'? That's what I heard...I'm shocked at the Elam story. I know he's going to a dome but that mile high altitude is a huge advantage! Great news for my Chargers though! :)

Shanahan fired the GM? I thought he was the GM and how can a coach can a GM if he's not the # 1 executive? And, aren't you getting a little tired of Shanahan? I mean, wouldn't you have liked to see Kubiak take over already?

It was never proved that Griese was drunk when he fell down in Davis' driveway, Tarl.. Though I suspect that was the case..LOL!! As for Shanahan, he is part coach, part GM ect..and Sundquist was I think the more permanant GM. And yes I do now and then start to think either Shanahan should just stick to coaching and give up all the extra titles (something Mike Holmgren did in Seattle a couple of years ago) or call it quits. He's still a great coach, but Shanahan has made so many awful draft and free agent decisions the last few years..taking Maurice Clarett in the 3rd round comes to mind *shudder!* Things were really great ten years ago when the late Jack Elway (John's father)used to be director of pro scouting.. Its too bad that Kubiak left to coach the Houston Texans, and they've done really well. They kicked our [censored] last season! lol.

I eagerly look forward to a rematch with your San Diego Chargers this year..and hopefully they will be much more competetive!! losing like 43-3 and 44-10 or whatever the scores were was humiliating!! I think that if we hadn't had Jason Elam's field goal in the first game you guys would have blanked us!! LOL

What non-division opponents do your Chargers have this coming season Tarl?

We have Buffalo, Tampa Bay, Miami, Jacksonville, New Orleans, Cleveland, Atlanta (hello Jason Elam!), New York Jets, Carolina and New England.

Some are obviously pre-season games but I don't know the exact schedule yet..

http://www.chargers....le/schedule.htm

our schedule not including AFC west rivals:

Home:Pats and Colts (!) this year and we get Atlanta(Micheal Turner reunion),Jets and Panthers(love these latter 3 easy games).

Away: The Saints in the U.K.That shoulda been in SD or N.O. for the Brees/Rivers match up.

Away in USA: Pittsburg,Tampa,and Miami.

I'd say 12-4 to 14-2 looks doable barring injuries. :(

Yeah, Tarl I agree. The NFL is taking away a Saints home game so they can play in London, and lose the estimated $5-10 million that the City of New Orleans makes on a Saints home game (Hotel taxes, sales taxes, etc.). I have the Red [censored] on that, I would LOVE to see LaDanian Tomlinson in person, and catch up with my boy Buster Davis. Thanks NFL!

And the drama continues for RichmondSpy's Cincinnati Bengals..

WR Chris Henry is in trouble (AGAIN!!) with the law.. On Monday he was charged with punching an 18 year old in the face and breaking a car window with a beer bottle.

Breaking news today on nfl.com says that the Bengals have cut Chris Henry.. About freakin time I say! The guy is a true waste of talent.. and didn't he already serve an 8 games suspension last year? No word yet on what Goodell is going to do to him this time, but my money is on a full year suspension so chances that he'll go to another team this coming season are zero!

Any thoughts, RichmondSpy?

Blog updated!

Some NFL News to share:

-Do NOT expect to see Chris Henry in the NFL until at least 2009, the rumor is the Commish will suspend him the entire season, even if a plea deal is reached or charges are dropped.

-Pacman Jones could be a Cowboy after the draft is over, I expect him to be given a chance this season, and going to Dallas. But expect him to be back after the draft takes place.

-Chris Long, Jake Long, and Vernon Gholston-One of these men will be the top pick.

The 2008 NFL schedules were officially released today for each team. Looking at my Broncos schedule, I see this year we have very few night games on national TV.. Just an opener in Oakland against the Raiders on Sept 8th, and a Monday Nighter against the Pats in New England in October. Oh and we get another Thanksgiving game (on the damn NFL Network which we don't get!!) against the Cleveland Browns.

Anyone else here have their teams playing any note worthing games schedule wise?

San Diego plays the Jets on MNF week 3. The Jets? Ok, so they beat the Chargers in SD in the wild card game 3 years ago but they missed the playoffs 2 straight years so why not Tennesee or Jax? But hey, I'll take it :( ! I don't get that match up at all. Whatever, I think SD has a pretty cake schedule. They have Pittsburg away, NE and Indy at home and then the Saints in the U.K. Otherwise, they get the Dolphins, Falcons,Panthers and Tampa...and the usual weak AFC west.

The Saints have 2 Mon Night games, both at home (Giggidy), and of course we lose a home game to San Diego (Thanks NFL, you shafted us on a home game back in 2005 also!), and a Thursday night game at Chicago in December.

If your local cable provider does not get the NFL Network, I suggest DirecTV, on the plus side you get the entire NFL games available every week, so you can watch the best match up possible, if your local networks get a bad game.

More usual whining from Bengals receiver Chad Johnson.. He really wants out of Cincinnati and is threatening to hold out from all team activities. The Bengals are not willing to listen to trade offers for him, probably since they already cut Chris Henry, they could not survive the loss of Ocho Cinco.. Even though I'm not a Bengals fan, I can certainly see Chad's point of view of wanting out of Cincinnati.. the team is sinking backwards to becoming a dysfunctional organization again. Now he's doing what former RB Corey Dillon did when he left the Bengals and joint the Patriots.

Question: Which teams do you think would take a gamble on Chad Johnson? Would you like your team to?
(My Broncos wouldn't.. we just bolstered our receiving corps by signing former Seahawks WR Darrel Jackson, and former Chiefs WR Samie Parker).

BREAKING NEWS 4/17:

Ravens QB Steve McNair is retiring.. He informed the team this morning that he intends to retire. I guess that a press conference is scheduled for later today. Such a shame, McNair was one of the toughest players I've seen.. he battled so many injuries and bounced back pretty well. However in the end, he just didn't have enough left in the tank.. so maybe his retirement might be better for the Ravens.. they can start fresh with a younger QB.

As someone who followed his college career, and his NFL career, I am saddened to see Steve McNair retire. He helped put the SWAC back on the map (One of his college games was broadcast on ABC-that is huge for a Div I-AA school). He also showed how to be a class act on and off the field as well, and displayed a toughness and competitive streak that some players today don't show. I wish him the best in his next endeavor.

Oh, and note to Chad-you have a contract, and you damn well better live up to it. Quit your whining, be a man, and play for the Bengals in 2008. After the season is over, and you have finished destroying the team you can always join the Cowboys in 2009.

Well now it's all over the NFL media that the Miami Dolphins have taken Michigan's Jake Long as the No.1 pick. He signed a 5 year, 57 million deal!! Damn!! What I could do with that kind of money...might buy myself a couple of Aston Martin DBS..

In more stunning news, the Seattle Seahawks have cut running back Shaun Alexander. After being the MVP in 2005, Alexander bitched and moaned about wanting a long term multi-million dollar contract. Then, Oops!! His production on the field went WAY downhill the next two seasons. Plagued with injuries and not even showing much effort when he did play, Alexander's fall from greatness is just shocking.. Sure he'll end up somewhere else this season, but the question remains will he return to his '05 MVP form?

I had heard about it from a friend of mine late the night before my last post that something could happen re: the top pick that day. This does not bode well for Chris Long, who may drop to 4, and Vernon Gholston could also drop a bit down as well.

Jared Allen is no longer a Chief, and is now a Viking and the highest paid player in the NFL on defense. The Chiefs like Dallas have 2 1st round picks now. Hopefully I can get a mock draft up, as some other talk is brewing about the 2nd, 5th, and 7th picks possibly being traded.

Nice mock draft, hcmv!! You were right on with my Broncos pick!!

Well day #1 is over.. How did everyone's teams do? So far the Broncos drafted Ryan Clady OT from Boise State (HAH!! a Boise State Bronco is becoming a Denver Bronco! ) and we also got WR Eddie Royal from Virginia Tech.. We don't pick again til the 4th round tomorrow. Overall I'm pleased with our picks today.. We desperately needed some more pass rushing players and Royal will be a good complement to Brandon Marshall and Brandon Stokely this season.. Sadly I fear Rod Smith is going to make his retirement official soon.

I hope we get some good defensive players tomorrow..

Can't say I'm fired up over it so far. We drafted a CB even though we have two excellent starters locked up and we have no 2,3 or 4(ok since we got value players for those pics but makes this draft alot less fun!).

As a part-time Bears fan I'm dissapointed they didn't grab Brian Brohm-who woulda thought Green Bay was gonna take a QB after having Aaron Rodgers sit behind Farve for 3 years...weird pic.

Eagles again traded away their 1st round pick.

My new hometown (and growing guilty pleasure team) Falcons picked up Georgia Tech destroyer Matt Ryan.

Didn't watch any of the draft, but made sure to check in this morning to see Philip Wheeler and Tashard Choice drafted in the 3rd round. Not sure I can accept Choice being a Cowboy though...

I'm not at all thrilled with the Jets draft this year. According to an article on SI.com, Gholston was, at best, the Jets' third choice at the sixth pick, and that they had tried to trade up to get Chris Long and that they also very much wanted Darren McFadden. I think that, after those two went off the board, the Jets should have traded down and stockpiled picks to help the rebuilding process, instead of choosing Vernon Gholston, who was inconsistent at Ohio State and was drafted way too early at #6. Also, trading back into the first round for a tight end when the Jets already have two good tight ends on the roster in Chris Baker and Bubba Franks. That pick should have been a quarterback (at that point, either Chad Henne or Brohm) to come into camp and compete with Chad Pennington and Kellen Clemens for the starting job.

Right now I am working on compiling NFL Data for my blog, and I need a little help. In order to do it, I need not only my views on teams, but yours as well. No matter what team it is, please send me a e-mail or IM about the following:

New coaches
New players (Draft picks and free agents)
Biggest draft impact player
Biggest free agent impact player
Your predicted outlook

This will be a big help, as I hope to include the NFL more this season, and keep my college reports up to date. Thanks a bunch, updates begin mid July (College and NFL)
