You're welcome. Great team you have...now, this thread will just have to at least one more year!
Well, you were so close; if they hadn't been playing my beloved Patriots, I would surely have rooted for the Chargers.

Congrats to NE for their 4th SB birth. My Bolts were game but not healthy. I thought the Chargers had a much better shot than the Giants...Man, I didn't see that one coming....'grats to the NY Giants too.
At least SD answered 2 important questions(for the pundits, not me). Rivers is their QB and Norv Turner can win in the playoffs...
*sigh*
when is the draft?
Before you give Norv Turner too much credit, he made three boneheaded calls in this game, all of which is simply unforgiveable.
First: 3rd and 1 from the Patriot 4 yard line. You are down 14-9 against the highest scoring offense in NFL History. This HAS TO BE 4 down territory. There was nobody thinking you could possibly win the game 15-14, so a FG to make the score 12-14 was useless. How many times do you see teams that have good running games not be able to get 1 yard on two downs? You run it up the middle twice and you get it. Instead, Norv calls a run that requires the runnig back to go wide, which lead to a loss.
Second: Even on 4th and 2, you had to go for it. You cannot beat this team without scoring a TD. Why kick a FG? Think of it this way. If you do not get the first down and NE scores a TD, you are down 12. Two scores. If you kick the FG and NE scores a TD, you are down 9 and that is still two scores. However, if you get a TD, and NE answers back, you are only down 5 points. That is one score. Why kick a FG? Let me repeat: this is the highest scoring offense in NFL history.
Third: After NE scores a TD (SURPRISE, SURPRISE) you are down 9 with 9 minutes to play. You have the ball at the NE 36 yard line. What do you do? Okay, it is 4th and 10. A FG is no good, b/c it would have been a 53 yarder and in that type of weather and wind it would not be prudent. You have to go for it. WHAT? A PUNT? ARE YOU KIDDING ME? Norv might as well waived the white flag there and called his players into the locker room.
Why do you punt?
Can anyone give me a reason? Something logical there? If you punt saying, "Well, we can stop NE three and out and get it back soon." Then, regardless if NE starts from the 36, the 11, or the 20 a three and out stop is a three and out stop. So, take the extra chance of going for it while you are so close to getting in FG range or even a TD. You are down 9 points with 9 minutes left. WHY DO YOU PUNT?
Here is why: So you can say you played the Patriots close. So you can say you only lost by 9. Turner was looking at the box score and considered it to be acceptable. He did not try to win the game. He tried to delay the loss.
I would not be singing his praises at all. In the most important game in Chargers history since Super Bowl 29, and the most important game in his Head Coaching career he went extremely conservative and passive and did not try to go all out and win the game. He sucks.

I try to be gracious and look what I get! well, the Chargers did loose last year's playoff game bc Marty went for it on 4-11 in the first frickin quarter!!?? and so, I would have prefered they kick in that situation...but, hey, the chargers were not healthy ...I'll concede it was a poor decison to punt.Dungy made some poor calls last week too. But yeah, tough one.the D was playing so well he maybe thought he'd get a break...anway, we needed our starting QB,TE and RB to play an even mediocre level and we'rn't afforded that luxury...
At least he won a play game. 2 actually. I don't miss Marty ball. Look how Drew Brees and Philip Rivers both do when they are away from him...
BTW, I'm very happy for longtime Charger Junior Seau that he's finally in a position to get a ring(as I was for Rodney Harrison.both are very popular among SD fans).

Quarterbacks-Even. A shock, but Brady has been proven mortal, and Eli is playing lights out now. The big question is Brady's ankle-is it a ruse or is it a real problem.
Runningbacks-Giants. I never thought Brandon Jacobs would be so big, but Ahmad Bradshaw is picking things up in relief of Jacobs. Try tackling a 265 lb RB, then have to catch the speedy Bradshaw. Laurence Maroney has played well, and my boy Kevin Faulk is more of a receiver out of the backfield.
Wide Receivers-Patriots. No brainer here, the Pats WR's are bigger stronger and faster than the Giants. Amani Toomer and Plaxico Burris are nothing to sneeze at either.
O-Line-Patriots. The Giants have a good line, but the Pats have been consistent all year long, the edge is slight.
D-Line-Giants. Mike Strahan and Osi Uemenyoura (Don't know about the spelling) have been a great pair of book ends. The Pats have Richard Seymour and Vince Wilfork, but lag behind the G-men on this one.
Linebackers-Pats. Even though they are old, the Pats LB's have what it takes. The experience alone is a boost, but the Giants have younger, and quicker guys, but it is all numbers, and the Pats have that edge.
Secondary-Even. The Giants have played lights out in the secondary the last few weeks. The Pats have good players here, but have not really been tested like the Giants have.
Final Score-This is the big one, so since not many are taking the Giants, I will.
Giants 31 Patriots 28

Amazing & miraculous & lucky escape by Eli. He showed mettle today and finally looked like a number one pick.

As for the Pats.. I knew their time was running out at how poorly they've played during the last few games. Still though, 18-1 is nothing to be ashamed at!! What a great season for them! But for now the '72 Dolphins can FINALLY pop the corks on the champagne!!

The Patriots may have won the battle on December 29th but the Giants won the war.

Congratulations to the Giants on an extremely well played game, and hats off especially to Steve Spagnuolo, who put together one of the best defensive game plans in recent memory, to hold one of the greatest offenses ever to just 14 points.
