Today, I am doing MY mock Draft, in other words, I am acting as the GM of all 32 NFL Teams. I have analyzed team needs, wants, and have anticipated Free Agents leaving as I make my decisions. In a few weeks (I need to milk this Draft for as long as I can!) I will be doing a Mock Draft. In the Interim, I will list my Top 100 Players, and the 5 best at all positions.
hcmv007's 2007 NFL Draft
1. Raiders-Good news, I have a pretty solid Defense. The bad news? My offense is terrible. I would love to take JaMarcus Russell here, but here are my questions: 1) Do I really need a QB? 2) Will JaMarcus rely on his arm like he did mostly in College? 3) What is a bigger need, O-Line or QB? My answer, I have a QB in Andrew Walters, he may not be much, but he is who I have right now. I have decent players at the skill positions, but it don't do a bit of good without an O-Line. Joe Thomas, T Wisconson
2. Lions-If Roy Williams keeps his mouth shut, I have a pretty good team. Oakland took Joe Thomas, not a big problem. On Offense, we were not that bad. I need a RB, but look who is available! Jon Kitna is good, but he is not goingto be here in a few years. JaMarcus Russell, QB LSU
3. Browns-So last year didn't go as I had planned. I really could use a RB-Jamal Lewis is only here for a year, I have doubts about Charlie Frye, look, I mismanagedthings last year. Everything, Offense and Defense starts up front, and my Defense needs it more. I may be reaching, but it is a need. Alan Branch, DT Michigan
4. Buccaneers-I have acquired veteran QB Jeff Garcia to either start or back up Bruce Gradkowski. I have some extra picks (Thanks Indy!), and have needs. My O-Line is actually sharp and young, that's good. The Cadillac should be ok, but I see a huge need at WR. Galloway is old, and Michael Clayton was hurt most of the last 2 years. TE is a need also. But can I ignore my D? Well, that's what extra picks are for. Calvin Johnson, WR Georgia Tech
5. Cardinals-My offense looks pretty good, but we lack a strong running game. Adrian is on the board! But my defense was crap. Offense puts butts in the seats, which is not a problem in my spaceship style stadium. Keeping butts in the seats and winning games is what I need NOW! Gaines Adams, DE Clemson
6. Redskins-I am mad they took the guy I wanted, but I am not afraid. I get the guy I really wanted all along. Jamaal Anderson, DE Arkansas
7. Vikings-Tavaris Jackson is NOT the answer at QB. My O-Line needs help, and my production on the D-Line was nonexistent. Oh, and there is no big play WR left on this team. Brad Childress is where he was last year, but at least now he can get a franchise QB. Brady Quinn, QB Notre Dame
8. Texans-What was I smoking taking Mario Williams over Reggie Bush?! But here is the positives: I have the shapings of a good defense taking place, and some plymakers on offense. The negatives: O-Line cannot do a damn thing right, David Carr is likely outta here. Based on what I need, players like Anderson and Gaines are gone, and i could really use them on Defense too. Branch is gone, Peterson is on the board. But it all goes back to the O-Line, and i need a mainstay. Levi Brown, OT Penn St
9. Dolphins-Nick Satan (I am trying to be nice about that a-hole) really didn't deliver here. I have lost a lot of players b/c of Daunte Culpepper who needs to lay off playing video games with Chad Johnson and rehab that knee. I am mad Quinn is off the board, and Brown. I do not need Peterson, so he is a no go. I have to hope Culpepper is better, but I need to help my D. Do you see the quandry Satan has put me in? It is time to get help for Zach Thomas. Patrick Willis, LB Ole Miss
10. Falcons-Name one place where we didn't screw up. Joe Mexico, sorry Michael Vick was admittedly held back. My defense did not live up to my standards. Good news, Joe Horn should catch some of Vick's passes-if he is healthy. TJ Duckett is a Lion, which means Warrick Dunn is the man. Defense is still the key, Coach Petrino. Thankfully you know this next guy pretty well. Amobe Okoye, DT Louisville
11. 49ers-Could you believe we were in the hunt for the playoffs!? Thank God the NFC West sucks! Our offense was not half bad, thanks to Frank Gore, but we have our 3rd Offensive Coordinator in as many years. On defense-I know I overpaid for Clements, but we have some good players now. Here's one more. Paul Poslusnzky, LB Penn St
12. Bills-Weird off season. Still laughing at the 49ers ponying up 80 mill for Clements. Bottom line, we have a good team. But my defense needs to get up to snuff. LaRon Landry, S LSU
13. Rams-Still miffed over passing over Jay Cutler last year, I look at what I have and realize my WR's are not getting any younger. LSU scores big again. Dwayne Bowe, WR LSU
14. Panthers-What happened to a team that was supposed to go to the Super Bowl? It is time to put players on notice, kick @$$ and take names. Too bad I cannot do it here, but I do land a player who can help me stretch the field a bit. Zach Olson, TE Arizona St
15. Steelers-Defense is the heart and soul of this team. I have a new Head Coach who is going to stay here until retirement age, so that I am not worried about. I am worried our defense took a step back, and Big Ben rushed back onto the field when Charlie Batch should have played more. So where do I go? Lawrence Timmons, LB Florida St
16. Packers-No more drama here. I cannot believe he is available, and I need him! Adrian Peterson, RB Oklahoma
17. Jaguars-Okay, we had our problems on Defense and Offense. My WR's stink, but my so does my O-Line, and I don't want to reach on one of them now. But I do have a great player in mind to help my defense out. Reggie Nelson, S Florida
18. Bengals-What went wrong last year? Everything. What can solve the problem? Hell if I know, but if my players stop getting arrested that can be a start. Time to upgrade my Defense. Daymeion Hughes, CB Cal
19. Titans-Yay! I got Nick Harper! I will cut that dumb-@$$ Pacman, and that should solve a few problems in my secondary right there. The Bengals messed me up, so I turn to my Stud-and help Vince Young out. Dwayne Jarrett, WR USC
20. Giants-No more Tiki?! I still wonder why Tom Coughlin is the Head Coach, and not someone like David Cutcliffe is not the Offensive Coordinator (Coached Eli at Ole Miss, Peyton at Tennessee). I know my defense sucks, but hey, we need to score points. Rueben Droughns should help out, but trading Tim Carter makes me happy. Ted Ginn, WR Ohio St
21. Broncos-It has not been a pleasant offseason for us. Two of our players are no longer with us. Historically, I have not taken many O-Lineman in the first round. Or RB's or Defensive help. I have to change that this year. Darrell Hall, CB Michigan
22. Cowboys-Wade Phillips is back in the state of Texas, where he belongs. Too bad TO is still around, but it hurts my cap to just toss him-for now anyway. If Tony Romo can get his head in the game of football, he is a good QB. But protecting him is a MUST. Defensive help can come later. Ben Grubbs, OG Auburn
23. Chiefs-Trent Green is gone, so it is up to Damon Huard and Brodie Croyle to be the QB. O-Line actually surprised me last year to. I need a WR, but Ginn and Jarrett are both gone. Time to build the Defense. Justin Harrell, DT Tennessee
24. Patriots-I have solved my WR Problems. Now onto the defense, which needs help, particularly in the secondary. Chris Houston, CB Arkansas
25. Jets-Despite a great year, I have a lot of needs on this club. But like I said earlier, everything starts UP FRONT. I did it with my offense last year, time to do it on Defense. Anthony Spencer, DE Purdue
26. Eagles-No need to explain. johnboy should be happy. Marshawn Lynch, RB Cal
27. Saints-For years I have begged and pleaded to draft a Corner with their top pick. Glad they listen. Aaron Ross, CB Texas
28. Patriots-Time to get my LB. Jon Beason, LB Miami
29. Ravens-Same old story-good defense, offense, well, Steve McNair is our QB! This defense did get me a ring, but what has it done lately? Adalius Thomas is now a Patriot, and Ray Lewis is aging. Better shore up the O-Line. Ryan Kalil, C USC
30. Chargers-again, keep it simple. I need a WR. Robert Meachum, WR Tennessee
31. Bears-Did good reaching the Super Bowl, but now off season may affect that team. Lance Briggs wants out, fine. Brandon Siler, LB Florida
32. Colts-Again, simple, use all picks on Defense. Adam Carriker, DE Nebraska

They are now leaving faster than they can get arrested. We lost a starting offensive lineman, receiver (no big deal there with Chad, T.J. and Henry) and a safety who led the team in interceptions, including two game-savers, not to mention getting rid of a starting linebacker.18. Bengals-What went wrong last year? Everything. What can solve the problem? Hell if I know, but if my players stop getting arrested that can be a start. Time to upgrade my Defense. Daymeion Hughes, CB Cal
Sad that now I am now looking back on the 2005 season as the good old days. :`(

Pretty good Mock draft. I agree about Russel. He'd be a wasted pic and Andrew Walter was a very accomplished QB in college-let's see what he can do with some friggin OL protection. But I think they should trade down and then go OL.
Re: SD, I prefer a free safety over an WR as it's not an emergency for the Bolts...They need a LB to replace Edwards too.
A good point, Tarl. Here's where I beg to differ. While yes, there have been losses on the Defensive side, via free agency, you have to take into account Norv Turner being the head coach. This team lacked a productive WR, and let's face it, Keenan McCardle is NOT going to cut it in the next five yrs or so. Good Safety's are still on the board, as is LB, which I think they might look at in the 1st round if Bowe/Meachum/Ginn are off the draft boards. If all your offense needs is one player, make that your first pick, and that was my basis for my choice for the Chargers.

I think Calvin Johnson is the best player in the draft. The Raiders should take him despite other desperate needs.

He is my #1 overall prospect.

2007 NFL Draft-hcmv007's top prospects: Quarterbacks
1. JaMarcus Russell-LSU
2. Brady Quinn-Notre Dame
3. John Beck-BYU
4. Drew Stanton-Mich St
5. Kevin Kolb-Houston
Sleepers:
Trent Edwards, Stanford
Tyler Palko, Pitt
Jordan Palmer, UTEP
Troy Smith, Ohio St
Chris Leak, Florida
Many have Trent Edwards in their top 5-not me. He was hurt last year, so he will go into this year not having meaningful playing time in 2 years. John Beck is over Stanton b/c of what he can do in meaningful games-even though Stanton has the physical tools. It is almost universally agreed that Russell and Quinn are instant starters wherever they go. Keep an eye on Houston QB Kevin Kolb, however. While not yet a household name, Kolb made good decisions, and is a lock to make the roster of whomever drafts him. The fastest QB was Jared Zabransky of Boise St, who ran a 4.56 in his 40 time. Most QB's taken will likely be career backups, IMO.
Next Offensive Group: WR's
2007 NFL Draft-hcmv007's top prospects: Defensive End
1. Gaines Adams-Clemson
2. Jamaal Anderson-Arkansas
3. Anthony Spencer-Purdue
4. Adam Carriker-Nebraska
5. Charles Johnson-Goergia
Sleepers
Ray McDonald, Florida
Tim Corwder, Texas
Ikalia Alama-Francis, Hawaii
Chase Pittman, LSU
Dan Bazuin, Central Michigan
The fastest 40 time goes to Adams, who ran a 4.64. Jacob Ford of Central Arkansas ran a 4.65, as did Darell Burston of Florida St. There are some good players here, and with the emphasis of most teams needing DT's, expect this group to be great value later on in the draft.
Next Defensive Group: DT's

1. Calvin Johnson-Georgia Tech
2. Dwayne Bowe-LSU
3. Dwayne Jarrett-USC
4. Robert Meachum-Tennessee
5. Sidney Rice-South Carolina
Sleepers
Anthony Gonzalez, Ohio St
Craig Davis, LSU
Courtney Taylor, Auburn
Jacoby Jones, Lane College
I have Ted Ginn of Ohio St as my #6 WR. Surprisingly the fastest WR was not Ginn, but Yamon Figures of Kansas St, who ran his 40 in 4.3 seconds. IMO this is the BEST over all position in the entire draft, there are good picks-who knows-the next Marques Colston could be here. Of my sleepers, Jacoby Jones has made a name for himself in all star games and in personal workouts-whoever lands him gets the steal of the draft. Calvin Johnson is my top overall prospect.
2007 NFL Draft-hcmv007's top draft prospects: Defensive Tackles
1. Amobi Okoye-Louisville
2. Alan Branch-Michigan
3. Justin Harrell-Tennessee
4. Tank Tyler-NC St
5. Marcus Thomas-Florida
Sleepers
Keith Jackson, Arkansas
Matt Toeaina, Oregon
Ola Dagundro, Nebraska
Kareem Brown, Miami
Jay Alford, Penn St
With many temas wanting help at DT, do not expect this to be heavily picked in the first day. My top 5 should all go in Rd's 1-3, but most teams will want to wait until Sunday, which will be alright. The fastest 40 time was clocked by Brent Curvey of Iowa St, who ran a 4.93
No updates on Fri, on Mon-RB's and LB's (Inside and out!)

In addition to our regular division rivals, KC Chiefs, San Diego Chargers and Oakland Raiders, we will also be playing the Jacksonville Jaguars, the Tennessee Titans, the Pittsburgh Steelers, Green Bay Packers, Minnesota Vikings, Houston Texans, Indianapolis Colts, Buffalo Bills, Chicago Bears and the Detroit Lions. I think that some of these are pre-season games, but as I said we haven't got the official schedule yet.
Nevertheless, it should be a very interesting season.. Jay Cutler is now in the driver seat and we've added RB Travis Henry, Cornerback Dre Bly, TE Daniel Graham..
I'm curious about other CBN'ers teams non-divisional matchups this season ((Tarl's Chargers, hcmv007's Saints, Johnboy's Eagles, Richmond Spy's Bengals..)

The Saints open the NFL Preseason AND Regular Season! The Hall of Fame Bowl will feature the Pittsburgh Steelers, and we kick off the Regular Season at Indy on a Thurs Night! Philly, Chicago, Houston, Jacksonville, St Louis, Arizona, Tennessee, San Fran, and Seattle round out our schedule. It will be one heckuva season-and a hard one. We surprised a lot of people last season. Now, the big question is can this be the year the Saints stay the same-or begin a new tradition?
I'm definitely looking forward to that first game between Indy and New Orleans. That was the matchup that I was looking forward to the most for the Super Bowl outside of the Jets making it there. It should be a good one with two great offenses facing off. The NFL couldn't have picked a better opening night game.

2007 NFL Draft-hcmv007's top prosepcts: Running Backs
1. Marshawn Lynch-Cal
2. Adrian Peterson-Oklahoma
3. Kenny Irons-Auburn
4. Tony Hunt-Penn St
5. Darius Walker-Notre Dame
Sleepers
Lorenzo Booker, Florida St
Antonio Pittman, Ohio St
Kolby Smith, Louisville
Garrett Wolfe, N Illinois
Chris Henry, Arizona
Fastest RB's (4.4 in 4 yd dash) are Peterson, Wolfe, Henry, and Pittman. I like Lynch over Peterson b/c of versatility-partiucularly on Special Teams. Brain Leonard of Rutgers is listed as a RB on some prospect lists, but I see him as a Fullback. To me, this is a great group, where any one can fill in almost anywhere.
2007 NFL Draft-hcmv007's top prospects: Inside Linebacker
1. Patrick Willis-Ole Miss
2. David Harris-Michigan
3. Brandon Siler-Florida
4. Buster Davis-Florida St
5. Michael Okwo-Stanford
Sleepers
Jon Abbate, Wake Forest
Zak DeOssie, Brown
Justin Durant, Hampton
Desmond Bishop, Cal
Kelvin Smith, Syracuse
*Rob Caldwell, Navy (Must serve 3 years in Navy before being able to sign as a free agent or drafted)
Willis is the biggest riser in the draft, projected a few months ago as a late 1st rounder to a mid range 1st rounder. Fastest LB in the 40 was Willis (4.51), slowest was Abbate (5.00 in 40), but that kid just has it in him to be a football player.
2007 NFL Draft-hcmv007's top prospects: Outside Linebackers
1. Paul Posluszny-Penn St
2. Lawrence Timmons-Florida St
3. Jon Beason-Miami
4. Rufus Alexander-Oklahoma
5. Tim Shaw-Penn St
Sleepers
Quincy Black, New Mexico
Earl Everett, Florida
Antwan Barnes, Florida International
Sam Olajubutu, Arkansas
Jarvis Jackson, Georgia
Fastest LB is Black of New Mexico (4.42), followed by Barnes of Florida International (4.43). This is the only time I agreed with the other experts on the top 5. Rufus Alexander went to my high school, so I am stoked to see him get picked by an NFL team, Michale Clayton is my other former high school alum now in the NFL. I see Olajubutu as the next Sam Mills-same size and height, and one helluva tough player.
Next Mon-Offense, TE's
Next Wed-Cornerbacks

1. Greg Olsen-Miami
2. Zach Miler-Arizona St
3. Scott Chandler-Iowa
4. Martrez Milner-Georgia
5. Kevin Boss-Western Oregon
Sleepers
Ben Patrick, Delaware
Clark Harris, Rutgers
Michael Allen, Whitworth
Cody Boyd, Washington St
Zach Herold, Nebraska-Omaha
Some big guys here. Tallest is Cody Boyd-6'8. Fastest is Olsen of Miami, who ran a 4.51 in the 40. Very deep position, so expect a lot of these guys to be 2nd day selections, with a few exceptions.
2007 NFL Draft-hcmv007's top Prospects-Cornerbacks
1. Darelle Revis-Pitt
2. Leon Hall-Michigan
3. Aaron Ross-Texas
4. Chris Houston-Arkansas
5. Marcus McCauley-Fresno St
Sleepers
Michael Coe, Alabama St
Courtney Brown, Cal-Poly
Anthony Arline, Baylor
Corey Graham, New Hampshire
DeAndre Jackson, Iowa St
Another good solid group. This is good news b/c many teams need stheletic corners. I have Revis over Hall simply over athleticism, but it was a razor thin edge. The fastest CB is Chris Houston, who ran a 4.32. Naturally, he is a big mover. Expect the top 5 CB's to be gone by pick 27.
Next (Later today)-Offensive line. No sleepers, and Safety's on Friday. Coming Mon, I will list team needs and prepare my Mock Draft for next Friday-just before the Draft

Tackles
1. Joe Thomas-Wisconsin
2. Levi Brown-Penn St
3. Joe Staley-Central Michigan
4. Marshal Yanda-Iowa
5. Doug Free-N. Illinois
Centers
1. Ryan Kalil-USC
2. Dustin Fry-Clemson
3. Samson Satele-Hawaii
4. Scott Stephenson-Iowa St
5. Doug Datish-Ohio St
Guards
1. Ben Grubbs-Auburn
2. Justin Blalock-Texas
3. Andy Alleman-Akron
4. Arron Sears-Tennessee
5. Cameron Stephenson-Rutgers
No doubt these are the hardest postions to grade. Tackles generally run deep, so if you are an OT, you are more likely to be drafted. Untrue if you are a center. Surprsisingly, many players from smaller universities are considered near the top of the draft at their positions.
Fri-Safeties. Mon-Team needs. Wed-Team needs continued. Fri-Mock Draft

2007 NFL Draft-hcmv007's top prospects-Strong Safety
1. Michael Griffin-Texas
2. Aaron Rouse-Virginia Tech
3. Daren Stone-Maine
4. Jesse Daniels-LSU
5. Michael Johnson-Arizona
Sleepers
Chad Nkong, Elon
Melvin Bullit, Texas A&M
Eric Frampton, Wash St
Eric Weddle, Utah
Craid Dahl, North Dakota St
Fastest 40 times go to Griffin (4.45) and Weddle (4.48) and Sabby Piscatelli of Oregon St (4.47). Of the 28 prospects listed, only 13 are projected as being selected, but that could change.
2007 NFL Draft-hcmv007's top prospects: Free Safety
1. LaRon Landry-LSU
2. Reggie Nelson-Florida
3. Brandon Meriweather-Miami
4. Josh Gettis-Wake Forest
5. Tanard Jackson-Syracuse
Sleepers
Marvin White, TCU
Kevin Payne, UL-Monroe
Gerard Alexander, Boise St
Willis Barringer, Michigan
David Lofton, Stanford
Landry has the fastest 40 time (4.35), and is comparable to the CB's and WR's of this draft-one of the reasons he is the next fastest riser this draft next to Ole Miss LB Patrick Willis. Of the 24 Prospects rated, 17 are projected draft picks, implying the lack of depth currently in the NFL at this position. Individual workouts and other questions have caused David Lofton of Stanford to drop, but at 6'4 212 lbs and a 4.48 time in the 40, he could be a steal, regardless.
I used nfldraftscout, cbssportsline, fox sports, rivals, and espn as sources for my prospect lists. I would be remiss if I did not thank them for being a big help to me this year.

Shouldn't we start a new thread for the 07 season?
I can't speak for our moderators, but I feel since this has been a popular forum, it really all flows well together, thereby (In my opinion) making a new topic not helpful, seeing as it would be merged.
I know I have seperate college football forums on here, but College football dies after national signing day, and picks up in the end of July, whereas the NFL really can go all year, but it has it's dead time from after the draft to about June. So, the NFL is closer to being a full year, and unlike College, has only one championship bowl game, where in College, you have the Rose, Sugar, Fiesta, and Orange-PLUS the National Championship Game that rotates from the 4 above Bowl sites. College Football wasn't real popular here in the 2005 season, but that changed in 2006 as more people responded. So, bottom line-talk about the NFL is a year round affair, and IMO there is no need for a 2007 NFL topic-but there IS a need for a 2007 College Football-since that only lasts about 6 months, and the major moves happen in Nov and Dec, with recruiting in Feb. I hope that clears things up a bit.
