Rex Grossman has to be the WORST Super Bowl quarterback ever. Never have I seen one qb toss so many "punts" in one game...pathetic. :cooltongue:

Geez, my 5 year old nephew could throw harder...

No those were not punts, but ducks. (Quack Quack Quack)
Can you believe that is the best the NFC had to offer?

I must have been the only one not impressed with the Prince performance (I know he had a hip injury and was healing). Guess I am still pissed at him for not singing '1999' back in 1999. As far as halftime performances go-Sir Paul is the standard bearer.

Yeah Dove-I liked the Snickers, the rock toss for Bud Light, and the Taco Bell lions, but no commercial really just stood out there. Nothing like the dinosaur squashing the cave man for Fed Ex, or the theft deterrent (hitting person in face by throwing cell phone at him). Or who can forget the soldiers coming home in airport and getting an ovation from the people there. None really stand out. And careerbuilder.com is letting go of the monkeys for that load of crap commercials? Well, my football withdrawls are now setting in, and I am getting depressed

One more trend-for the last 6 years, the SB champs all have 1 thing in common: They have at least 1 former LSU player who played in the game. Geaux Tigers!

Someone please tell me why Art Monk and Ray Guy were not elected to the Hall of Fame? That was the biggest travesty of the weekend (Derrick Thomas and Paul Tagliabue also should have recieved nods). Not doubting Michael Irvin getting in-just not in his 1st year of eligibility, but I feel since he is on the 'almighty' ESPN, that's what got him in.

That was a really bad Super Bowl. Just incredibly sloppy.

Still, congrats to Tony Dungy and the Colts. :cooltongue:

(Colts' MVP: Rex Grossman)

so true.

Respectfully, Dove, no it wasn't. There was no sense of nail-biting in this game at all. Sure the Colts handed Chi-town their butts in tough fashion but I never got a sense that the game was on the verge of breaking wide open with exciting plays. It was fairly numb and sloppy IMO.

I felt as if I were watching a preseason game in August; problem is, Grossman seems to play like it's preseason all of the time...

BTW, the Kevin Federline commercial was the best thing about this year's SB commercials. Freakin' classic. lol!

Yes, it was a very entertaining game. Sloppy games are often fun. The conditions were terrible(it also rained in the SD-SF Superbowl played in Miami 12 years ago).

Anyway, season is finally over...Manning is now a SB winner.I was rooting for the Bears but it's hard not to like Peyton Manning and be happy for him.

Hey, I didn't see any good trailors yesterday. I was hoping for Bourne/Spiderman 3...nada? :cooltongue:

The opening kick off, the turnovers? Comon! It was better than last years' game by a mile...but I'll concede it wasn't GREAT game or even an above average superbowl. But it had some moments...

Now I'll admit that wasn't nail biting either, but then no Super Bowl can compare with my all time favorite.. XXXII Broncos getting their first Championship over the Green Bay Packers!! To me that was the best one in the last ten years!!!

That was an exciting game but I think that the Titans/Rams game of '99(?) just edges it. :cooltongue:

If Brees, McAllister & Bush have another season like this one, I agree.

It's all politics; Irvin's an ESPN guy. That comes with a sort of pull. It's bull when Monk isn't recognized as of yet.

Well, that first play (the run back) was pretty exciting for me. And the double turn-overs had me going. But, then it just settled down to Peyton Manning eliminating the Bears step-by-step.

I agree with Dove, that SB XXXII (Broncos-Packers) was the most exiting in a while. But then, I'm biased that way, lol.

As for commercials, I nearly dropped my drink with that Letterman-Oprah quicky.

What is a superbowl any way and what makes it so super?

The Super Bowl started off as a game between the 2 pro football leauges-the NFL and the AFL. In the 1970's, the 2 leagues merged, and it became the new name for the NFL's championship game. It is one of the most watched programs in the US every year, even if it is a blow out, or if it is a close game. It is a cash cow for the netowrk that shows it, and the going price for a 30 second ad is $2.3 million. Networks will also show after the game one of their favorite programs to try to get you to not change the channel. Some great Super Bowl moments:

Super Bowl III-Jets 16 Colts 7. Jets QB Joe Namath guarantees a Jets win

Super Bowl VII-Dolphins 14 Redskins 7. Dolphins finish 17-0 perfect record

Super Bowl XIII-Steelers 35 Cowboys 31. Maybe the best one ever played.

Super Bowl XVI-49ers 26 Bengals 21. 49ers begin NFL dominance, in part to a goal line stand late in the game

Super Bowl XXV-Giants 20 Bills 19. The closest game ever, this game came down to a missed FG.

Super Bowl XXXIV-Rams 23 Titans 16. The last play of the game, the Rams prevent the game tying TD as time expired

Super Bowl XXXVI-Patriots 20 Rams 17. Patriots kick game winning FG as time expired.

There are others, but those are my favorites. The Cowboys, Steelers, and 49ers have the most wins (5). The Cowboys have been to the most SB's (8).

Yes,Fate can be cruel...Marty is a L-O-S-E-R. I don't care who did what...he made TWO really horrible calls. He absolutley has to go or I can be a fan no more. The guy is a freakin post season LOSER. If a tsunami occurs, if a freakin asteroid lands, if hurrican katrina returns for a rematch, I blame Mary Shottenhiemer. The guy just courts disaster. That his children are still breating is dissapointing to me.

Go Colts! Or Saints... whatever... :)

I am so extremely dissapointed...and it's becase of this cliche spoutting L-O-S-E-R coach we gave a chance after he's a proven failure...OMFG! :cooltongue:

No Mas! Gracias! Goodbye Mr. 5-13!! :D :D

Punto!

The timing is more surprising than anything. Kinda late, isn't it? The Chargers really messed up big time here. They could have had either cordinator to replace Marty if they had fired him in Jan. Now, they are both gone and most of the good candidates are already hired.

That said, the Chargers have already given themselves an "excuse." If they dont win a playoff game next year, they can say "Well, we are just under year one of our new coach. . . After all, we did lose most of our coaching staff . . ." If they do have success, no matter how marginal they will simply call themsevles brilliant.

Hmmm...I would be a tad concerned about your Chargers Tarl.. Both Coordinators gone (Cam Cameron to the Dolphins and Wade Phillips to the Cowboys) and now Marty axed.. Thats not to say San Diego won't lose any edge next season, as they still have LT and Phillip Rivers, but you always have to be cautious when there are as many shake ups in the coaching staff.. Same thing with the Pittsburgh Steelers, Cowher resigns, Ken Wisenhunt and Russ Grimm go to the Arizona Cardinals...whether the Steelers can make a run for the playoffs next season remains to be seen. I'm sure Mike Tomlin will be a fine coach for them..

The one coaching move that I'm scratching my head at as Lane Kiffin to the Oakland Raiders.. a very young and inexperienced coach, although his dad, Monte is coordinator for the Tampa Bay Bucs, I'm not sure if this guy is the right choice to bring this sorry franchise out from the bottom of the gutter. How can Al Davis expect all this from the young Kiffin??

Why the Steelers didn't just hire Russ Grimm as HC and keep him in the family is beyond me. Grimm IMO, has the tangibles to make it big. I look for them to slightly fall off next season.

Most of Al Davis' coach choices don't make any sense.

The only hope for the Raiders is his death/retirement.

I wouldn't hold my breath for any of those two. Don't forget, Pete Carrol had two coaching positions in the NFL already ( Jets and Pats) and wasn't too successful there. He was wise to go to the college game, and it suits him better. I woulbe be surprised if he moved to the NFL.

Jimmy Johnson was burned out of coaching with a year left on his contract in Miami. He likes nothing better than relaxing in the Keys. No way he is coming back.

As senile and as fossilized as he may appear, I can respect that; it's his baby afterall. So the Raiders will suck for awhile longer...
